Abstract:The one-pot synthesis of benzo[f]quinolin-3-ones and benzo[a]phenanthridein-5-ones was achieved by the inter-and intramolecular photoannulation of 6-chloropyridin-2-ones and 3-chloroisoquinolin-1-ones with phenylacetylene or tethered phenylacetylene. The reactions were proceeded by photoaddition of 6-chloropyridin-2-ones and 3-chloroisoquinolin-1-ones to phenylacetylene to give the chlorine-substituted stilbenoids, and then 6 pi electrocyclization of the stilbenoids and oxidation aromatization to afford the polycyclic products.

Abstract:A concise and environmentally friendly protocol was developed for the synthesis of 6-phenylbenzo[h]quinolines. 6-Phenylbenzo[h]quinolines were obtained in good yields via irradiation of (E)-2-phenyl-3-styrylpyridines with a 254 nm UV light (64 W) in EtOH under an argon atmosphere in the presence of TFA. The reaction is a dehydrogenative annulation reaction that proceeds through 6π-electrocyclization, a [1,5]-H shift, 1,3-enamine tautomerization, and elimination of a hydrogen molecule to afford 6-phenylbenzo[h]quinolines. The described protocol not only avoids the usage of a transition metal catalyst and an oxidant but also has the advantages of high atom efficiency and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:An iodine-promoted one-pot cascade oxidative annulation reaction has been developed for the synthesis of chromone-fused-pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines and indolizino[8,7-b]indoles from o-acetylphenoxyacrylates, tetrahydroisoquinolines, and noreleagnines. This process underwent a logical approach to both chromone-fused-pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines and chromone-fused-indolizino[8,7-b]indoles isolamellarin derivatives. Manipulations of l-menthol and dl-α-tocopherol demonstrate the applications of this strategy.

Abstract:A one-pot domino synthesis of photochromic 2,2-diarylphenanthro-(9,10)-[2H]-[1,4]-oxazines in excellent yield is described starting with acrylic acid derivatives. The reaction mechanism was studied by ReactIR and UV-vis. The cascade sequence of the reactions involves five transformations, namely, acyl azide formation, Curtius rearrangement, arsonium ylide formation, aza-Wittig, and final cyclization to the title compounds.

Abstract:The synthesis of trans-4a,12b-dihydrodibenzo[fh]quinolin-2(1H)-ones (2), dibenzo[f,h]quinolin-2(1H)-ones (3) and 3,4-dihydrodibenzo [f,h] quinolin-2(1H)-ones (4) via photo-induced annulation of 6-( [1, 1'-biphenyl]-2-yl)pyridine-2(1H)-ones (1) under irradiation of a 313 nm UV light was described. Compounds 2 were obtained in 82-95% yields when the irradiation time was 3 h. Products 3 were obtained by irradiating 1 for 12 h in the presence of iodine. Heating the solutions of 2 in DMF at 130 degrees C for 24 h gave compounds 4 via a double 1,3-H shift. The demonstrated protocols showed the diversity of photo-induced cyclization of compounds 1.

Abstract:An extremely simple method is developed to prepare 4,5benzotropones and 2,3,4,5-dibenzotropones via one-pot cycloaddition reactions of alkynes with naphthoquinones and dibenzoquinones mediated by BF(3)middotEt(2)O. Various mono-and disubstituted phenylacetylenes, multisubstituted 1,2-naphthoquinones and dibenzoquinone substrates are investigated. In addition, a scale-up synthesis of 7-phenyl-5H-diben-zo[a,c][7]annulen-5-one and further derivation of 7-(4-fluorophenyl)5H-dibenzo[a,c][7]annulen-5-one are explored.

Abstract:We report herein a photoinduced radical 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between the 2-benzothiazolimines and tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives with an organo-photocatalyst. A variety of benzothiazole-based hexahydroimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline architectures with great synthetic value were conveniently and efficiently constructed in moderate to good yields and excellent diastereoselectivities with highly tolerant functional groups. Moreover, the practicality and utility of this protocol were demonstrated by scale-up synthesis and facile elaboration. Preliminary mechanistic investigations indicated that the reaction proceeded via a visible-light-induced radical 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition pathway. This finding is expected to stimulate a more extensive exploration of the green and concise synthesis of structurally diverse heterocyclic molecules in the synthetic community.

Abstract:A one-pot [3 + 2] cycloadditive synthesis of benzo[d]isoxazole-4,7-diols in aqueous medium was carried out via nitrile oxides and benzoquinone intermediates by taking advantage of iodobenzene diacetate as an oxidant. Abstract:Benzoxazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolin-11-ones 4, benzothiazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolin-11-one 5, benzimidazo[1,2-b]isoquinolin-11-ones 6 and isoquino[2,3-a][3,1]benzoxazine-5,12-dione 7 were synthesized by the reaction of homophthalic anhydride with the corresponding o-substituted anilines. Reaction mechanisms were investigated by isolation of the intermediate products under controlled reaction conditions. Electronic structures of 4a and 5 were investigated by ab initio Calculations. Photoinduced [2+2] cycloaddition reactions of 4a and 5 with electron deficient alkenes (acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, dimethyl fumarate and dimethyl maleate) gave cyclobutane products (36, 37 and 39-47 respectively). The regioselectivity in these photocycloadditions was examined by FMO interaction considerations. The mechanism of the cycloadditions was investigated by fluorescence quenching and triplet quenching experiments, solvent effect on the reaction and calculation of free energy change for electron transfer (SET) between the excited states of 4a (and 5) and the alkenes.

Abstract:A facile and efficient synthesis of bicyclic 1,3-oxazin-4-ones, 2,3,6,7-tetrahydrocyclopenta[e]-1,3-oxazin-4-ones and 2,3,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-4H-benzo[e]-1,3-oxazin-4-ones has been achieved via Ir-catalyzed one-pot reaction of secondary amides with adipoyl chloride and pimeloyl chloride, respectively. This method features good yields, broad scope of substrates, mild reaction conditions, and scalability. This reaction also is well compatible with acetyl chloride and phenylacetyl chloride to access monocyclic 1,3-oxazin-4-ones.
