Abstract:A practical component-based WebGIS named as Geo-Union is presented. Geo-Union consists of four layers: storage layer, service layer, component layer and application layer. Service layer can be partitioned into another two layers: client service layer and server service layer. The architectures and object constitutions of each layer in Geo-Union are discussed in details. The Web application model of Geo-Union is also presented. At last, some future works in WebGIS, such as interoperability, security, distributed computing and intelligent computing, are indicated and simply explored.

Abstract:A WebGIS component system named Geo-Union is constructed in Internet/WWW environment based on COM/DCOM. Its spatial data model, architecture, component layers and partition of component functions are presented in detail. Spatial index and spatial cache techniques are also applied to improve the WebGIS performance. Geo-Union has been adopted in many domains with very nice effect.

Abstract:A practical hierarchical component-based WebGIS model referred to as Geo-Union is presented. Geo-Union consists of four layers: storage layer, service layer, component layer and application layer. Service layer is partitioned into another two layers: Geo-Union client and Geo-Union server. The architectures and object diagram of each layer in Geo-Union are discussed in details. After that, four key technologies adopted in Geo-Union (spatial data model, ORDB, spatial index and spatial cache) are summarized and analyzed, especially the spatial cache framework of Geo-Union. At last, some future works in WebGIS, such as interoperability, security, distributed computing and intelligent computing, are indicated and simply explored.

Abstract:Component model is a primary approach to deepen the functions of WebGIS. A component-based WebGIS system Geo-Union is introduced. Geo-Union has a multi-level Client/Server architecture, including four layers: application layer, component layer, service layer and storage layer, where service layer has different units to provide both client services and server services. Also, component partition and web mode of Geo-Union is discussed. After that, a spatial cache framework, including spatial database cache, network spatial cache and spatial data proxy server, is designed in Geo-Union to improve spatial data access performance in different situations in network environment.

Abstract:In component-based WebGIS, map visualization objects are cornerstones in developing applications. From constructing user interfaces, displaying maps and human-computer interactions to displaying query results and making subject maps, almost all developing work is based on map visualization objects. In this paper, a component-based WebGIS system Geo-Union is introduced, which is built by COM/DCOM technology and can run in Internet/WWW environment. After briefly describing the architecture and the functional partition of Geo-Union, the design and implementation of map visualization objects are described and discussed in details. Map visualization objects in Geo-Union include a map visualization control and three programming objects (map object, display layer object and dynamic layer object). Map visualization control is in charge of displaying map, interacting with users and coordinating other components. The three programming objects are used to manage map data and its display properties. At last, a sample in Visual Basic environment is given to illustrate the use of Geo-Union components and its map visualization objects.

Abstract:As the impact of meteorological information becomes more extensive, the demand of user application interface and interaction effect is increasingly high, the necessity of the application code portability gets more evident, we selected the cross-platform, cross-browser Web front-end technology—Silverlight, combined with WebService interface provided by Bing Maps, designed a Silverlight-based meteorological service system to make any user at any time, any place connected to the Internet, automatically acquire the real-time severe weather warning signals and other conventional weather forecast released by meteorological department. The system provides a WebService-based GIS function.Studies show that the combination of rich client and network services is feasible in the Web Map Service.

Abstract:This paper analyses prevalent component technique and implementation of Web GIS and then provides the key technique and some important problerms of Web GIS based on component. In the end, on the basis of GeoBeans and using VC++ ATL supporting technique, this paper tests this idea with an example of three-tier structure Web GIS. Furthermore some useful conclusions and suggestions are raised.

Abstract:Current WebGIS platform developing techniques,such as CGI,Server API,Plug-ins,ActiveX, Java and so on,have their respective limitations. A new WebGIS system framework based on COM+ technology is presented. Technical foundation and system structure are discussed. Three key problems are put forward and resolved. Finally,an application example is given. It is proved that the solution can make full use of the resource of server, support operations by multiple users simultaneously have high system security and is independent of the platform of client.

Abstract:Firstly, the development and application of digital city are introduced. Aiming at the complexity of constructing digital city, the key issues and implementation scenario of constructing digital campus based on GIS component are explored, which will give a practical method and useful reference for digital city. Adopting the GIS platform Geo-Union, a digital campus of Peking university (PKU campus) is built. The architecture of PKU campus is based on Browser/Server mode, which consists of four layers: Browser, Web Server, Geo-Union Server and Spatial database server. The spatial information of PKU campus is organized as spatial entity, map layer and map and stored in Oracle8i.According the distribution of the campus, the spatial information consists of five parts: environment, main campus, Yan-bei campus, Chang-ping campus and medicine campus. The functions of PKU campus include information services both inside PKU and around PKU, such as map exploring, Web linking, site locating, spatial querying and navigating. The implementation method of PKU campus is based on WebGIS component and ASP. Two secondary developing components (GisView and PicView) are designed to integrate visualization, map operation, human-user interaction for map and image.PKU campus integrates all-sided service information in PKU, which will provide a convenient information channel for all members of PKU and other users, and will be a new window for exhibiting the image of PKU.

Abstract:GIS plays an irreplaceable role in the e-government information management systems and has been widely applied in the economic, national defense and social sustainable government departments. This paper presents a unified framework of the e-government GIS information platform based on the J2EE and Web service technology to create an interoperable, distributed Web mapping system. The e-government GIS Web service defines a set of functions that clients may use to interact with the GIS servers. The client can interact with the servers through the related GIS web service. The platform can be integrated into other e-government systems for the spatial related information visualization through the Web GIS service. The e-government information that contained the geo-referenced data can be visualized with GIS distribution maps. The experiments show that the proposed GIS platform could plays an important role in e-government for spatial information management, broadcasting, data management, statistical analysis, and decision supporting.

Abstract:In this paper, the web map application based on WebGIS was architected for geographic shapes creation and geospatial data analysis, providing a better and higher performance in an interactive mode. By integrating with geometric operation module provided by geospatial database, it is supported to create varied kinds of geometry shapes with complex structures and symmetric patterns in an easy way. The WebGIS application was designed in the form of the distributed architecture, providing visualization features of geometric operations and geospatial storages. It is feasible to support interactive features of geospatial analysis in an easy way, providing efficient security and better flexibility of map applications. The successful and efficient result indicates that it will bring scalable convenience and wide practicability in the area of complex geometric patterns design, including geographical regional planning and design.

Abstract:The ability with distributed computing is a main characteristic for new WebGIS platform. An organizing strategy of distributed WebGIS (DWebGIS) based on environment of server group and its implementation are presented. Then the distributed architecture of DWebGIS and engine of map services for COM+ were analyzed in detail. A distributed solution and process methods about DWebGIS are discussed, in which network load balancing (NLB) of server group, hidden marks of no-status objects, just-in-time (JIT) activation and object pooling are the key technique. Also, process of image based map-entities-objects in Client/Server, three factors (The alone filename are created by SessionID?server systematic time and random number), cycle of system request/response are expatiated on. Lastly, the correctness and feasibility for design of WebGIS system platform based on COM+ technique are proved by an example in Zhejiang Provincial Digital Drainage Area Planning System. Our further RD work is in progress.

Abstract:In this paper, a framework is presented to provide a new mode for WebGIS services. This framework consists of three layers: User layer, Application layer and WebGIS service layer. User Layer supports users to access WebGIS services via different network environment; application layer represents WebGIS applications constructed by different organizations or companies, which integrate GIS services to solve some domain-oriented problems; WebGISservice layer is the core layer in the framework, which provides different GIS services. Professionals maintain WebGIS service layer unitedly. WebGIS services can dynamically modified and added, but WebGIS application needn't adjust. If there are no appropriate GIS services in WebGIS service layer, the WebGIS application constructors can order them from WebGIS service layer. WebGIS service layer is a multi-agent system, where WebGIS services are implemented as agents, which can match the use of different users/applications.

Abstract:Internet GIS based on JavaBean can be deployed into two tiers or N tiers application,which contains GIS browser,Web server,GIS application server and spatial database server.GIS browser is the Web browser which supports Java virtual machine,such as Netscape ,Ineternet Explorer.Web Server is the server which supports WWW,servlet and JSP,such as iPlanet Web server.GIS application servers is the servers which finish the critical business logic,such as vector data service,image data service and DEM data service.Database server is the server which stores the spatial data.Spatial data organization on Internet is different from the traditional GIS.The goal is to access data simply and quickly.In general,it's geometry includes point,line,polygon and annotation. GeoSurfV4.0 is an example of Internet GIS software based on JavaBean.It contains four JavaBeans:GeoSurf2D,GeoSurf3D,GeoSurfTheme,GeoRouteServer.There are four different approaches to construct GIS application using component Internet GIS based on JavaBean:Java Application,Java Applet,Java Server Pages and Active Server Pages.

Abstract:With the development of GIS, all kinds of GIS systems are applied to different domains, such as location, oil exploration, traffic and so on. The traditional GIS only provides basic GIS functions, whereas, in practice, the users wish to integrate their applications into GIS. If traditional GIS is employed for integrating applications, it must employ the APIs to develop application-based-on-GIS. In spite of this it is difficult to integrate applications into GIS seamlessly .Therefore, a novel light and practical integrated WebGIS framework is proposed. Firstly, it gives the organization form of all kinds of space GIS objects; secondly, through SVG various space GIS objects are mapped into SVG DOM document; thirdly, by means of SVG, map layers management is implemented; fourthly, a kind of efficient decentralized GIS objects loading algorithm is proposed; fifthly, many metamodels which are used to describe all kinds of resources constructed by meta-data; finally, a kind of running frame for WebGIS is given. It is well known that oil and gas is nation vitals, and oil field accumulates amount of business data. How to integrate these different specialties data into WebGIS puzzled oil field users. The WebGIS framework which integrated kinds of specialties applications has been applied to Daqing oil fields, different users can expediently query their own interested information by GIS navigation. The practical application shows that integrated WebGIS framework is not only applicable for users, but also high efficiency for map operation. The light WebGIS framework and its novel idea also can be applied to other domains. © 2009 IEEE.

Abstract:WebGIS typically consists of many clients and unique server. Such a framework is suitable for simple application. But for many real cases, the client possibly needs a map which contains a lot of theme layers referring to spatial data owned by different departments. Therefore how to technically integrate the spatial data, physically distributed over different data/map server, together into one client's view is worthy of attention. One solution for this purpose is to pull multi-source spatial data to a unique web map server. Another solution is to implement 'pulling spatial map from different web map service' at client. Both solutions have some advantages and shortcomings to meet the increasing complex requirements. This paper gives a brief introduction to Open Source Web Map client: OpenLayers and to Open Source Web Map Server: MapGuide OS, and then proposes a new solution. With the solution MapGuide OS is used to organize the distributed spatial data/services, meanwhile, OpenLayers is used as a container for accepting multi-source map image together from different types of web map service including MapGuide OS. One real WebGIS application based on proposed solution is introduced, which obviously possesses advantages of two traditional solutions and has much better extensibility.
