Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new variant of Waring's problem: to express a positive integer n as a sum of s positive integers whose product is a k-th power. We define, in a similar way to that done for g(k) and G(k) in Waring's problem, numbers g'(k) and G'(k). We obtain g'(k) = 2k - 1, G'(p) <= p + 1 for primes p, G'(2p) <= 2p + 2 for odd primes p. Moreover, we obtain several interesting results and make two conjectures about G'(3) and G'(4).
Large sieve inequalities with power moduli and Waring's problem

Abstract:We improve the large sieve inequality with $k$th-power moduli, for all $k\ge 4$. Our method relates these inequalities to a restricted variant of Waring's problem. Firstly, we input a classical divisor bound on the number of representations of a positive integer as a sum of two $k$th-powers. Secondly, we input a recent and general result of Wooley on mean values of exponential sums. Lastly, we state a conditional result, based on the conjectural Hardy-Littlewood formula for the number of representations of a large positive integer as a sum of $k+1$ $k$th-powers.

Abstract:In this paper, it is established that every sufficiently large positive integer $n$ subject to $n\equiv0\pmod2$ can be represented as a sum of one square of prime and seventeen fifth powers of primes, which gives an enhancement upon the previous result of Brüdern and Kawada [1].

Abstract:In this paper, we study a density version of the Waring-Goldbach problem. Suppose that A is a subset of the primes, and the lower density of A in the primes is larger than 1-1/2k. We prove that every sufficiently large natural number n satisfying the necessary congruence condition can be expressed as a sum of s terms of the k-th powers of primes from set A, where s is a positive integer dependent on k.

Abstract:Let k be a positive integer and p be a prime.We give some congruences involving the binomial coefficients((k+1)p-a)p-a),(kp-1p-a) with 1 ≤ a ≤ p-1 and （kp+p-1/2b±p-1/2±b),(kp-1p-1/2±b) with 0 ≤ b ≤ p-1/2.In particular,we get a generalization of Morley's congruence.Meanwhile,some congruences about the summation of ((k+1)p-ap-a) are obtained.

Abstract:Let $ k \geqslant 2 $ be an integer. We studied the number of integers which form perfect $ k $-th powers in the way of \begin{document}$ x(y_1^2+y_2^2+y_3^2+y_4^2) = z^k. $\end{document} For $ k \geqslant4 $, we established a unified asymptotic formula with a power-saving error term for the number of such integers of bounded size under Lindelöf hypothesis, and we also gave an unconditional result for $ k = 2 $.

Abstract:Denote by P(K, k) the members of the field K which are sums of kth powers of field elements, by P+(K, k) the set of members of K which are sums of kth powers of totally positive elements of K. We are interested in deciding whether or not there exist integers w(K, k) and g(K, k) such that: a in P(K, k) implies that a is the sum of at most w(K, k) kth powers; a in P+(K, k) implies that a is the sum of at most g(K, k) totally positive kth powers. We will show that if w(K, 2) is finite and provided that the kth powers are dense (in a sense described explicitly in theorem 3) in K, then w(K, k) is also finite for k > 2. The proofs are constructive, but the implied upper bounds for w(K, k) are large. This is to be expected since the method of proof does not use any deep arithmetical or algebraic properties of the field K.

Abstract:In this note, we try to understand the recent development on the Waring-Goldbach problem involving cubes of primes. Especially, we want to determine whether integers that are either primes, squares of primes, cubes of primes, or a cube of an even number can be written as the sum of four cubes of primes. Meanwhile, we raise some problems that may deepen our understanding of the problem about the sum of four cubes of primes. Moreover, some examples suggest that almost all the cubes of integers can be written as the sum of cubes of four integers.

Abstract:In this paper we establish some new results similar to Lagrange's four-square theorem. For example, we prove that any integer $n>1$ can be written $w(5w+1)/2+x(5x+1)/2+y(5y+1)/2+z(5z+1)/2$ with $w,x,y,z\in\mathbb Z$. Here we state two general results: (1) If $a$ and $b$ are odd integers with $a>0$, $b>-a$ and $\gcd(a,b)=1$, then all sufficient large integers can be written as $$\frac{w(aw+b)}2+\frac{x(ax+b)}2+\frac{y(ay+b)}2+\frac{z(az+b)}2$$ with $w,x,y,z$ nonnegative integers. (2) If $a$ and $b$ are integers with $a>0$, $b>-a$, $2\mid a$ and $\gcd(a,b)=1$, then all sufficient large integers can be written as $$w(aw+b)+x(ax+b)+y(ay+b)+z(az+b)$$ with $w,x,y,z$ nonnegative integers.

Abstract:Let $r_k(N)$ denote the size of the largest subset of $[N] = \{1,\ldots,N\}$ with no $k$-term arithmetic progression. We show that for $k\ge 5$, there exists $c_k>0$ such that \[r_k(N)\ll N\exp(-(\log\log N)^{c_k}).\] Our proof is a consequence of recent quasipolynomial bounds on the inverse theorem for the Gowers $U^k$-norm as well as the density increment strategy of Heath-Brown and Szemer\'{e}di as reformulated by Green and Tao.

Abstract:The Wiener index W(G) of a connected graph G, introduced by Wiener in 1947, is defined as W(G) = Σ u,v∈V (G) d G (u, v) where d G (u, v) is the distance (length a shortest path) between the vertices u and v in G. For S ⊆ V (G), the Steiner distance d(S) of the vertices of S, introduced by Chartrand et al. in 1989, is the minimum size of a connected subgraph of G whose vertex set contains S. The k-th Steiner Wiener index SWk(G) of G is defined as SW k (G) = Σ S⊆V (G),|S|=k d(S). We investigate the following problem: For any positive integer n, one can find a tree T with Steiner Wiener index SW k (T)(2 ≤ k ≤ n) or linear array Steiner Wiener index a SW k1 (T)+bSW k2 (T) (a, b is a integer) such that coverage n. In this paper, we give some solutions to this problem.

Abstract:We have primarily obtained three results on numbers of the form $p + 2^k$. Firstly, we have constructed many arithmetic progressions, each of which does not contain numbers of the form $p + 2^k$, disproving a conjecture by Erdős as Chen did recently. Secondly, we have verified a conjecture by Chen that any arithmetic progression that do not contain numbers of the from $p + 2^k$ must have a common difference which is at least 11184810. Thirdly, we have improved the existing upper bound estimate for the density of numbers that can be expressed in the form $p + 2^k$ to $0.490341088858244$.

Abstract:Let $n>1$ be a positive integer. Let $R$ be a henselian local ring with residue field $k$ of $n$th level $s_n(k)$. We give some upper and lower bounds for the $n$th Waring number $w_n(R)$ in terms of $w_n(k)$ and $s_n(k)$. In large number of cases we are able to compute $w_n(R)$. Similar results for the $n$th Waring number of the total ring of fractions of $R$ are obtained. We then provide applications. In particular we compute $w_n(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ and $w_n(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ for $n\in\{3,4,5\}$ and any prime $p$.

Abstract:We establish quantitative lower bounds for the number of primes $p$ such that, for an odd integer $b$, $p - b \leq N$ and $p - b = 2^{k(N) + m} P_k \quad \text{for some } m \geq 0$, where $P_k$ is a product of at most $k$ primes other than 2, for $k \geq 2$. These results hold under various upper bounds for $2^{k(N)}$ depending on $k $, specifically when $2^{k(N)} \leq N^a$ for different values of $a$. Our approach combines techniques from Chen's theorem, weighted sieves, and Selberg's lower bound sieve, as well as results on primes in arithmetic progressions with large power factor moduli.

Abstract:Let $k\in \mathbb{N}$ and $s\geq k(\log k+3.20032)$, and assume that $\psi, \varphi$ are increasing functions tending to infinity with $\psi(x)=o(\log x)$ and such that $\psi(n)\sim\psi\big(n/\varphi(n)\big).$ Then, there exists a subsequence $\mathfrak{X}_{k}\subset \mathbb{N}_{0}^{k}$ of the set of $k$-th powers of nonnegative integers for which the number of representations of each $n\in\mathbb{N}$ as $$n=x_{1}^{k}+\ldots+x_{s}^{k}\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x_{i}^{k}\in\mathfrak{X}_{k},$$ which we denote by $R_{s}(n;\mathfrak{X}_{k})$, satisfies the asymptotic formula $$ R_{s}(n;\mathfrak{X}_{k})\sim \mathfrak{S}(n)\psi(n)$$ for almost all natural numbers, with $\mathfrak{S}(n)$ being the singular series associated to Waring's problem. Moreover, the arguments herein show very roughly speaking for $k\geq 14$ that whenever current technology from the Hardy-Littlewod method permits one to show that all large integers are the sum of $T(k)$ $k$-th powers of natural numbers then there exist for every $s\geq T(k)$ a subsequence $\mathfrak{X}_{k,1}\subset \mathbb{N}_{0}^{k}$ for which the above formula holds for almost all $n\in [X,X+\log X]$ as $X\to\infty$, and $\mathfrak{X}_{k,2}\subset \mathbb{N}_{0}^{k}$ with $R_{s}(n;\mathfrak{X}_{k,2})\asymp \log n$ for every sufficiently large $n$. The latter conclusion sharpens a result of Wooley and addresses a question of Vu.

Recent results on large gaps between primes

Abstract:One of the themes of this paper is recent results on large gaps between primes. The first of these results has been achieved in the paper [12] by Ford, Green, Konyagin and Tao. It was later improved in the joint paper [13] of these four authors with Maynard. One of the main ingredients of these results are old methods due to Erdős and Rankin. Other ingredients are important breakthrough results due to Goldston, Pintz and Yildirim [15, 16, 17], and their extension by Maynard on small gaps between primes. All these previous results are discussed shortly. The results on the appearance of $k$-th powers of primes contained in those large gaps, obtained by the author in joint work with Maier [23, 24, 25] are based on a combination of the results just described with the matrix method of Maier.
