Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new type of systems thinking in systems science incessantly developed and recently finalized by Michael C. Jackson [1]. An organic combination of the systems thinking with the theory of knowledge creation will provide a systematic and powerful means for users, especially managers in business world and service sector, who are in the face of complex, changing and diverse problem contexts. Increasing complexity and changes reflect the nature of our age and create huge difficult-to-solve problems, issues, and messes. Except for technical difficulties, it is difficult for problems to be solved mainly because of people with a variety of beliefs, purposes and arguments. It is almost impossible to handle complex problem situation simply in one perspective or by one methodology. A combinative use of different methodologies with multiple views developed in different disciplines could maximize strengths of each individual methodology and technique for creative and holistic ends, but how to critically use different methodologies without losing their uniqueness continues challenge scholars and practitioners in developing and using various social methodologies. We first summarize the recent development in the combinative use of different methodologies, methods, techniques, and tools in the area of systems thinking and then concentrate on use Jackson's creative holism in knowledge process management. This new systems methodology emphasizes pluralism and complementarism, which is in needs of process for maximally encouraging creativity not only from management and also from methodologies. Then, the knowledge-creating concept developed by Nonaka and Takeuchi is considered as generating explicit and tacit knowledge conversion cycle, that in turn bring forth new ideas and concepts through organizational learning process. Finally, we put the two strands of methodology and thinking together, and aim at providing a supportive thinking and mechanism for progress managements that require more creative, diverse and flexible means to cope with increasing complexity, pluralism and technologically emerging and converging environments.
