Abstract:Polygonal vertices convexo-concave determining is one of the fundamental issues in Computer Graphics. In this paper, plane space is separated into 2 region defined as positive region and negative region based on the direction and the stretched of the line segment. Accordingly transform identification of convexity or concavity of the next vertices into identification of the region position. Consequently the operation of multiplication can be averted. In order to do the best in practical determining, 3 areas is separated of the plane space, whereas not the same as earlier. These area are based on two horizontal lines, two vertical lines and two 45°diagonal lines through the vertices of the line segment. Because the partition is based on the polygon vertices and it has dynamic, therefore it's a dynamic distinct partition. These areas are defined as positive area, negative area or mixed area. In the case of the positive area or the negative area, we can confirm the convexity or concavity of the vertices through simple distinguishing. The result of test indicates it is a simple, highly efficient and reliable algorithm with high speed requires only (n/4) multiplication and(12n) comparisons.

Abstract:This paper presents a new GPU-based rasterization algorithm for Boolean operations that handles arbitary closed polygons. We construct an efficient data structure for interoperation of CPU and GPU and propose a fast GPU-based contour extraction method to ensure the performance of our algorithm. We then design a novel traversing strategy to achieve an error-free calculation of intersection point for correct Boolean operations. We finally give a detail evaluation and the results show that our algorithm has a higher performance than exsiting algorithms on processing polygons with large amount of vertices.

Abstract:A new compatible triangulations algorithm is proposed.First decompose concave polygon to convex polygons,then compatible triangulate convex polygons to triangulations,it will implement compatible triangulations.In worst case,it will add O(jk) steiner points and its time complexity is O(jn+n log n+jk log n).

Abstract:An efficient algorithm for polygon clipping is proposed.The algorithm inserts the vertexes of clipping and clips polygon which are made up of the result polygon into the intersection points list.By sorting the intersection points,we will get a directional linked and single-pointer vertexes list of result polygons.This algorithm optimizes the data structure of intersection points and reduces the calculation times.Finally,by compared with other congener algorithms,the new algorithm is verified to be more efficient.

Abstract:Computation of the intersection area of polygons is an important mathematical problem. For a long time, the processing of arbitrary polygons has been an important and difficult research topic. In this paper, we proposed a GPU-based rasterized polygon intersection area algorithm, GPURAS, and its accelerated versions, GPURASMC, which use Monte Carlo method and prove the correctness of these algorithms. Experiments and comparisons were performed using simple, arbitrary complex, and large-scale polygons. The results show that, compared to CPU-based algorithms, the efficiency of our algorithms is hundreds of times superior.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel algorithm for computing the area formulation of simple irregular polygons with arc based on the requirements of the house estate management department. The algorithm proposed has two advantages over other algorithms, higher precision and more comprehensible area formulation. Distinguished from other algorithms, it is able to process the irregular polygons with arcs. This algorithm has been successfully implemented in the 'intelligent house area check and proportion CAD system', applied in the department of Haining house estate management, Zhejiang province.

Abstract:An efficient algorithm for classifying intersection points between two line segments was presented by using the property of algebraic curve. Based on this algorithm, a robust polygon clipping algorithm was proposed, which can deal with various ambiguous cases. Experiments show that the algorithm is very stable and reliable.

Abstract:An effective noise removal algorithm which does not cause the shrinkage of surface is presented. By introducing the constraints of keeping all triangle barycenters invariant at each smoothing step, the algorithm turns the problem of mesh fairing into a constrained minimization of the energy functional, which is then solved efficiently by our iterative method. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm not only can preserve the good shape of the original surface while quickly removing the noise, hut also has the advantages of fast convergence, low computational cost and stable performance.

Abstract:An efficient Advancing Layer Method (ALM) is presented to create semi-structured prisms on viscous walls, in which a procedure that checks possible front intersections is essential to its efficiency. This paper develops various novel schemes to improve the algorithm’s efficiency precisely while not sacrificing its robustness and the resulting mesh quality. First, it employs a set of new techniques, and data structures are developed to improve the efficiency of the front-check procedure. Then, within each octant, a new filter is developed to reduce the intersection computations in the searching process. In addition, data structures are well designed to store the contiguously accessed data in each computing-intensive loop in a contiguous space for a potentially better cache hit ratio. We built a geometry model library formed by examples of industrial complexity to demonstrate the practicability of the algorithm. All the efforts mentioned above enable us to reduce the percentage of computing time taken by intersection check to an acceptable level (approximately 26%), which make it no longer be the most time-consuming part.

Abstract:A previous paper described an algorithm for accurate B-spline free-form de formation of polygonal objects to producet riangular Bézier patches. However that algorithm computed the control points of the resulting patches using a generalized de Casteljaualgorithm, which is expensive to compute. In this short note, we describe an algorithm that instead uses polynomial interpolation; both theoretical analysis and implement ation results show that this new algorithmruns faster than the original.

Abstract:Compared with traditional algorithms for merging a set of polygons,the cascaded union algorithm is more efficient by merging adjacent polygons first based on STR-Tree.However,it has poor performance in high distortion area of data density.To solve this problem,a cascaded union algorithm for polygon set based on grid is proposed.It spilts polygon set by using grid,which can reduce the high distortion area of data density.Experimental results show that the algorithm is feasible and effective.

Abstract:Polygon intersection is an important spatial data-handling process, on whichmany spatial operations are based. However, this process is computationally intensive because it involves the detection and calculation of polygon intersections. We addressed this computation issue based on two perspectives. First, we improved a method called boundary algebra filling to efficiently rasterize the input polygons. Polygon intersections were subsequently detected in the cells of the raster. Owing to the use of a raster data structure, this method offers advantages of reduced task dependence and improved performance. Based on this method, we developed parallel strategies for different procedures in terms of workload decomposition and task scheduling. Thus, the workload across different parallel processes can be balanced. The results suggest that our method can effectively accelerate the process of polygon intersection. When addressing datasets with 1,409,020 groups of overlapping polygons, our method could reduce the total execution time from 987.82 to 53.66 s, thereby obtaining an optimal speedup ratio of 18.41 while consistently balancing the workloads. We also tested the effect of task scheduling on the parallel efficiency, showing that reducing the total runtime is effective, especially for a lower number of processes. Finally, the good scalability of the method is demonstrated.

Abstract:To decrease the difficulty for polygon clipping,an algorithm for simple polygon clipping based on traversing polygon's vertices is proposed.The algorithm inserts intersection points into the vertexes' vector of clipping and clips polygon.By recording intersection points and its predecessor and successor,it may generate results polygon quickly.The algorithm optimizes the data structure of intersection point,saves storage space,and reduces the time complexity that is O((m+k)×k)where m is the larger vertex number of two polygons,and k is the number of intersection points.The algorithm is simple,easy to implement and high efficiency.

Abstract:Intersecting feature check and detection is a basic problem in feature-based CAD/CAM system. The usual approach checks whether two features are intersecting by performing Boolean operation between feature volumes. In order to avoid using very time-consuming Boolean operations, a new approach based on persistently naming mechanism of geometric entities is proposed. The approach is of high efficiency because it replaces Boolean operation by just checking names of features' faces.

Abstract:A new algorithm for Boolean operations on general planar polygons is presented. It is available for general planar polygons (manifold or non-manifold, with or without holes). Edges of the two general polygons are subdivided at the intersection points and touching points. Thus, the boundary of the Boolean operation resultant polygon is made of some whole edges of the polygons after the subdivision process. We use the simplex theory to build the basic mathematical model of the new algorithm. The subordination problem between an edge and a polygon is reduced to a problem of determining whether a point is on some edges of some simplices or inside the simplices, and the associated simplicial chain of the resultant polygon is just an assembly of some simplices and their coefficients of the two polygons after the subdivision process. Examples show that the running time required by the new algorithm is less than one-third of that by the Rivero and Feito algorithm.

Abstract:The efficiency of merging a set of polygons depends on the order of dissolving according to polygon proximity. Based on the analysis of several common union algorithm pros and cons, an union algorithm for polygon set based on multi-level grid is proposed. This algorithm spilting polygon set by using multi-grid not only narrows the high distortion area of data density, but also reduses the density of the first-level grid. Comparative experiments show the algorithm is more effective.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel algorithm for optimal packing problem by combining ant colony algorithm with BLF (bottom-left-fill) heuristic approach. The proposed algorithm not only automatically looks for the best sequence of the polygons and each polygon's optimum rotation by ant colony algorithm but also implements the exact layout with the BLF heuristic algorithm. Moreover, the algorithm supports the parallel computation and facilitates quick convergence to the optimal solution. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our algorithm comparing with the other methods.

Abstract:Aiming at the deficiency of traditional polygon auto-construction algorithm in automation and time efficiency, which leads to the insufficiency of commercial GIS softwares’ data processing and spatial-temporal analysis ability, an arc splitting and polygon auto-construction algorithm based on plane sweep idea is proposed. Our algorithm contains three features as follows. First, it is a complete process from intersection testing until polygon construction. Next, it takes full advantage of useful information during intersection testing to realize arc splitting and polygon auto-construction at the cost of little algorithm complexity and computing resources. Finally, it avoids the calculation of nested relation and handles degenerate cases of bridge and dangling edge. The result of experiments proves the proposed algorithm improves efficiency significantly in comparison with traditional algorithms.

Abstract:We present an efficient algorithm to determine the intersection of two planar general polygons. A new method based on rotation angle is proposed to obtain the classification of an edge with respect to a polygon. The edge candidates can be determined efficiently by a 1-dimensional range searching approach based on an AVL tree (a balanced binary search tree). The simplicial chain is used to represent the general polygons, and to determine the classification of polygon edges. Examples are given to illustrate the algorithm.
