Abstract:An efficient algorithm for classifying intersection points between two line segments was presented by using the property of algebraic curve. Based on this algorithm, a robust polygon clipping algorithm was proposed, which can deal with various ambiguous cases. Experiments show that the algorithm is very stable and reliable.

Abstract:An efficient algorithm for polygon clipping is proposed.The algorithm inserts the vertexes of clipping and clips polygon which are made up of the result polygon into the intersection points list.By sorting the intersection points,we will get a directional linked and single-pointer vertexes list of result polygons.This algorithm optimizes the data structure of intersection points and reduces the calculation times.Finally,by compared with other congener algorithms,the new algorithm is verified to be more efficient.

Abstract:We present an efficient algorithm to determine the intersection of two planar general polygons. A new method based on rotation angle is proposed to obtain the classification of an edge with respect to a polygon. The edge candidates can be determined efficiently by a 1-dimensional range searching approach based on an AVL tree (a balanced binary search tree). The simplicial chain is used to represent the general polygons, and to determine the classification of polygon edges. Examples are given to illustrate the algorithm.

Abstract:We popose an efficient algorithm for complex polygon clipping by adopting the trapezium segmentation technique and scan-line idea. Firstly, we find and compute the intersection points between main polygons and window polygons, then we record and sort the Y values of these points and the points in all polygons. Secondly, we cut all the polygons into some trapezium units by drawing the scan lines on the basis of these Y values and intersecting the edges of all polygons with the scan lines. Thirdly, we complete the trapezium-split operation line by line and pick up the intersection parts between the trapezia from main polygons and those from window polygons. Finally, we acquire the clipping polygons by tracing the boundary of the intersection parts. This algorithm ovecomes the complex computations such as the line reorganization and calculation of entry and exit points on the polygons.

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient algorithm for clipping points, arcs and polygons, which is a common operation in geographic information system (GIS). By incorporating the sweep-line technique in the proposed algorithm, the involved polygons are decomposed into a collection of trapezoidal meshes. In this way, the clipping operation between the to-be-clipped point, arc, polygon features and the subject polygons is transformed into an operation between points, arcs and the decomposed trapezoidal meshes, which is much easier to implement. Experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm is computational efficient comparing to the existing methods, especially when the input data contain a large number of polygons. In addition, the amount of storage space required is moderate. Furthermore, this algorithm is very flexible and able to handle concave polygons and those with holes.

Abstract:To decrease the difficulty for polygon clipping,an algorithm for simple polygon clipping based on traversing polygon's vertices is proposed.The algorithm inserts intersection points into the vertexes' vector of clipping and clips polygon.By recording intersection points and its predecessor and successor,it may generate results polygon quickly.The algorithm optimizes the data structure of intersection point,saves storage space,and reduces the time complexity that is O((m+k)×k)where m is the larger vertex number of two polygons,and k is the number of intersection points.The algorithm is simple,easy to implement and high efficiency.

Abstract:Line clipping process often involves a lot of intersection calculations. One way for improving the efficiency of a line clipping algorithm is to save the unnecessary intersection calculations demanded by traditional algorithms either for rejecting some totally invisible lines or for clipping some partially visible lines. An adaptive clipping algorithm is presented here to achieve this goal. The clipping process of our new algorithm consists of three steps. Firstly, we adopt Encoding & Code checking technique of Cohen–Sutherland algorithm to accept the totally visible lines and reject the portion of invisible lines that lie completely on the outside of each boundary of the clip window. Secondly, we construct a diamond enclosing box of the original window called S-Window to reject another portion of invisible lines that cross the corner of the clip window. All the remaining lines are identified at the third step. For each line, we construct a virtual enclosing box of the original window, called V-Window, which aligns with the line’s direction. All of invisible lines that fail to be rejected during the previous two steps are now easily picked up without any intersection calculations. The remaining partially visible lines are clipped against the boundary edges of the window that they do intersect. Theoretical analysis and experimental statistics demonstrate the high efficiency of our new algorithm.

Abstract:Continuous zoning,a novel clipping thought,is put forward in this paper.The plane is divided into many different areas in different way continuously,which can abandon the lines outside the window easily and quickly,and avoid unnecessary computing the point of intersection.After secondary zoning,we implemented the series coding technique to save time and to establish connection between both codes.Then the point symmetry technique which is applied to multiple zoning is carried out in cubic zoning.The slope of the area boundary in cubic zoning is 0°、±45° or infinity,which is suitable for the procedure realization.Comparing to secondary coding technique,point symmetry technique can avoid redundant operation of computing the point of intersection.The procedure realization clearly expresses that the algorithm in this paper can improve the line clipping efficiency.
Line Clipping Against Polygonal Window Algorithm Based on the Multiple Virtual Boxes Rejecting

Abstract:This paper presents a new algorithm for line clipping against a polygonal window by exploiting the local relationship between each line segment and the polygon. Firstly, a minimal enclosing box (MEB) of the polygon is adopted to reject the invisible line segments located outside the MEB. Secondly, a 45° rotated box is used to encode the endpoint of the line segment, and then reject a portion of the invisible segments crossing polygon corners. Finally, instead of encoding the endpoints of all line segments with respect to the polygonal window, each vertex of the polygon is encoded, taking the line segment to be clipped as reference. For efficient encoding of the polygon vertices, a new concept, termed with slope adaptive virtual box, is introduced regarding each line segment. Such a box can not only conveniently reject all totally invisible lines lying outside the MEB conveniently, but also precisely identify the edges of the polygon with which the line segment potentially intersects. With the summation of the vertex codes, it can be verified whether the line segment is separated from or potentially intersects the polygon window. Based on the product of the codes of adjacent vertices, singular cases of intersection can be solved accurately. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and stability of the new algorithm.

Abstract:Existing arc clipping algorithms are inefficient for many complex real-life applications like intelligent CAD and graphics recognition/understanding systems,due to their large number of graphical primitives,complicated geometrical relations and real-time interaction requirements.A fast arc clipping algorithm is proposed to greatly improve the efficiency in two steps.First,adaptive relational-tests are performed to exclude or reserve those arcs without arc-line intersections as more as possible in three levels: circular boundary boxes,arc boundary boxes and segmented quadrant arc boundary boxes.Second,a fast table-based arc-line intersections retrieval method is proposed to obtain the final clipping results for the rest arcs.Only several times of shift,comparison,addition/subtraction or multiplication operations are needed to clip any given arc.Experimental results in real-life graphical applications show that the algorithm is very fast and more efficient.

Abstract:Great efforts have been devoted to seamless quadrangulation of triangular mesh for its practical application in constructing surface patches. This type of algorithm sets up a parameterization on the triangular mesh and a re-meshing is carried out then to the quadrangulate mesh. The paper proposes a novel algorithm to quad- segment the triangular mesh. Our algorithm combines the techniques of parameterization with re-triangulation and clustering which segment the triangular mesh instead of re- meshing based on the parameterization results. Thus the algorithm avoids the process of solving linear systems of equations and local parameterization for adjusments. Also, the robustness of the algorithms is enhanced because ofthe possible ill-conditioned status of linear systems of equations arises in the previous algorithms. Abstract:An effective noise removal algorithm which does not cause the shrinkage of surface is presented. By introducing the constraints of keeping all triangle barycenters invariant at each smoothing step, the algorithm turns the problem of mesh fairing into a constrained minimization of the energy functional, which is then solved efficiently by our iterative method. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm not only can preserve the good shape of the original surface while quickly removing the noise, hut also has the advantages of fast convergence, low computational cost and stable performance.

Abstract:Encoding technique for the edges' endpoints of a polygon is proposed based on the essential characteristic of the polygon clipping against rectangular window.Primary and secondary encoding techniques can rapidly identify all of the polygon’s edges in the window and most of the polygon’s edges outside the window as well as classifying the inner vertices and external vertices.Correct clipping result can be obtained based on the line segments in the window and the encoding of intersection-points of polygon edges with those in the window.The special situation that rectangular window and polygon are one containing another is also taken into consideration.Experimental results show that the new algorithm is stable and fast.

Abstract:Existing circular window clipping algorithms are inefficient for many complex real-life applications like intelligent CAD and graphics recognition/understanding systems,due to their large number of graphical primitives,complicated geometrical constraints and real-time interaction requirements.This paper presents a fast line clipping algorithm against circular windows.The proposed algorithm is composed of three parts: adaptive identification of invisible lines based on tangent lines separation,fast identification of visible lines based on polygons cutting,and fast line-arc intersections generation based on predefined tables retrieval.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm greatly reduces the computational cost to clip lines by adaptive line-circle situation analysis and replacement of time-consuming operations with simpler ones.
A Compound and Robust Algorithm for Ellipse Detection

Abstract:Aiming for ellipse detection in complex environment, we propose a compound algorithm. In the scene image that we see everyday, there are usually many corner points and straight lines and it is not practical to use Randomized Hough Transform (RHT) to detect ellipse from such an image, for that the corner points and straight lines everywhere bring numerous noneffective samplings and accumulatings. Aiming at the solution of the problem, we firstly filter noisy points, corner points and straight lines, as many noneffective samplings are eliminated, then we use a compound ellipse detection algorithm to detect ellipse. Firstly use all points of the curve to fit ellipse by least squares and judge if it is the right ellipse, if not, sample five points random from the curve to solve the ellipse parameters, then an effective ellipse fitting rule is proposed to judge whether a point belongs to the solved ellipse. We use the above random sampling and ellipse fitting rule repetitiously to find the most fitting ellipse. In above processing we make full use of the continuity of the edge to sample points random and fit ellipse, as it reduces much more noneffective samplings and accumulatings. Simulation and experiments indicate that this algorithm is more robust and faster than RHT.

Abstract:In order to efficiently separate the overlapped particles in the image, some techniques have been developed such as binary conversion, distance function, morphology grayscale reconstruction and watershed transformation. Besides the introduction of theory and effect of every algorithm in segmentation, some improvements are provided to reduce the computing complexity and increase the boundary accuracy, including making use of two queues. Some examples are given to validate the applicability and good performance of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:We present in this paper efficient and robust algebraic algorithms for computing intersection curves between torus and natural quadrics used in CAD, namely sphere, cylinder and cone. A proper local coordinate system (LCS) is chosen first. Under the chosen LCS, cylinders and cones are parametrized by their line generators, and the problem of computing intersections between tori and cylinders or cones are converted to the line/torus intersection problem. Then, cases that the intersections are conic sections are identified and computed in geometrical and intuitive ways. For all other cases, discrete intersection points are computed and sorted to form intersection curves. For torus/sphere intersection, we present algorithms to compute the intersection curves directly from explicit algebraic representations.

Abstract:A fast line clipping algorithm against a convex polygonal window based on Skala algorithm is presented in this paper. By the algorithm, the clipping window is first divided into four polylines, then the clip of a line against the window is performed by determination of the intersection of the line with each of the four polylines according to the positional relationships between the two end points of each polyline and the line to be clipped. A bisearch method is used to quickly find out the window's edges that intersect the line to be clipped. The algorithm uses less multiplication and division operations and has higher execution speed, in comparison with the others like Cyrus-Beck algorithm and Skala algorithm.

Abstract:Many algorithms for clipping a line by a rectangular area or a convex polygon in E2 or by a non-convex or convex polyhedron in E3 have been published. The line segment clipping by the rectangular window in E2 is often restricted to the use of the Cohen-Sutherland (CS) algorithm or its modifications based on some presumptions like small clipping window or more sophisticated coding technique, etc. The line clipping problem solution is a bottleneck of many packages and applications and, therefore, it would be desirable to use the fastest algorithm even though it is more complex.
