Abstract:Fifty-two myxomycete taxa from the Mid-Upper Reaches of the Bailong River were listed in the present paper. Of them, 3 species are new to China. They are Craterium paraguayenese (Speg.) G Lister, Diderma montanum (Meyl.) Meyl. and Physarum bitectum G Lister. 34 species are new to Gansu Procince.

Abstract:We identify 3 genera(26 species) from Grimmiaceae,which is based on extensive investigations and the research on Bailong River Basin collected specimens.Racomitrium cucullatulum,R.barbuloides,R.angustifolium,R.joseph-hookeri,R.brevisetum,R.himalayanum,R.subsecundum and Schistidium trichodon of them are new species of Gansu Province.We also presented the analysis of the geographic distributions according to the areal-types of Chinese genera of seed plants presented by Professor Wu Zhengyi.

Abstract:The diversity of lignicolous freshwater fungi of the Greater Mekong Subregion are currently being studied. In this paper, 18 fresh collections of Pleurotheciaceae from submerged wood in freshwater are characterized based on morphological characters and analyses of ITS, LSU, SSU and RPB2 sequence data. Six new species of Pleurotheciella (P. aquatica, P. fusiformis, P. guttulata, P. lunata, P. saprophytica, P. submersa), one new Phaeoisaria species (Ph. aquatica) and one new Pleurothecium species (Pl. aquaticum) are introduced based on their distinct morphology and evidence from molecular phylogeny. Pleurotheciella uniseptata, Phaeoisaria clematidis and Pleurothecium pulneyense are also redescribed and phylogenetic relationships assessed herein, these species are the first records for China.
Revealing Brownish Mycena Diversity in China: New Discoveries and Taxonomic Insights

Abstract:Within the genus Mycena, species exhibiting brownish basidiomata present considerable challenges in identification due to similar coloration. This study underscores the significance of pileipellis types and cheilocystidia characteristics as critical in delimiting brownish Mycena species. To clarify the principal taxonomic characters and their utility in distinguishing between brownish Mycena species, a morphological taxonomy and phylogenetic analysis were performed. Five new species from China were introduced and characterized through a comprehensive morphological anatomy and phylogenetic substantiation: M. campanulatihemisphaerica sp. nov., M. digitifurcata sp. nov., M. kunyuensis sp. nov., M. limitis sp. nov., and M. oryzifluens sp. nov. Discussions of these taxa are supplemented with morphological illustrations. The phylogenetic relationships were inferred using Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood methods based on sequences from the internal transcribed spacer and the large subunit regions of nuclear ribosomal RNA. With the addition of these five new species, the worldwide count of brownish Mycena increases to 94, and a key to the 29 known species of brownish Mycena from China is presented.

Abstract:The basidiomycete genus Botryobasidium is a resupinate saprotrophic with a global distribution range from coniferous to broad-leaved forest ecosystems. Though numerous species have been reported from Eurasia and North America, few have been described from China. In the current work, phylogenetic analyses of Botryobasidium in China were conducted based on the dataset of the internal transcribed spacer ( ITS ) regions and the large subunit ( LSU ) of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses were used to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree, and three new species, namely Botryobasidium acanthosporum , B. leptocystidiatum and B. subovalibasidium , were described from subtropical forests of Yunnan Province, Southwestern China. Botryobasidium acanthosporum is characterized by having yellowish white to dark yellow basidiome, clavate to tubular cystidia, and subglobose to globose basidiospores with obtuse spines. Botryobasidium leptocystidiatum is characterized by having fluffy to arachnoid, greyish white to ivory basidiome, generative hyphae with clamped, tubular cystidia, and subnavicular to navicular basidiospores. While, B. subovalibasidium is characterized by having yellowish to ivory basidiome, subovoid basidia, navicular to suburniform basidiospores, and thick-walled chlamydospores. These three new species are described and illustrated, and the discriminating characters between the new species and their closely related species are discussed. A key to known species of Botryobasidium in China is provided.

Abstract:The species of Gymnopilus (Hymenogastraceae, Agricales) are commonly recognized as wood-decaying fungi. Certain members of this genus have been identified as psilocybin-producing mushrooms. Gymnopilus exhibits a diverse range and has a global distribution. In this study, a total of seventy-eight specimens were gathered from ten provinces in China. A comprehensive molecular phylogenetic analysis was conducted, employing gene sequences including ITS, nrLSU, nrSSU, rpb1, rpb2, and tef1-α. Additionally, morphological examinations were also carried out. The phylogenetic topology of Gymnopilus from this study generally agreed with previous studies and facilitated the identification of all those specimens. As a result, eleven species, including five newly discovered ones named Gy. gyirongensis, Gy. variisporus, Gy. tomentosiceps, Gy. tenuibasidialis, and Gy. aurantipileatus, were recognized. Significantly, four of the five newly identified species are native to the Xizang Autonomous Region, emphasizing their specialization in this distinctive habitat. This research contributes to our comprehension of Gymnopilus diversity and lays the groundwork for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Gymnopilus resources.

Abstract:Gongronella had accommodated only two species for more than half a century and as many as 17 new species have been described in this genus since 2015. However, no systematic studies were conducted for this genus so far. The distribution, substrate and morphology of all known species in Gongronella are analysed herein. Meanwhile, with the support of phylogenetic and morphological evidence, six new species (G. abortosporangiasp. nov., G. apophysatasp. nov., G. bawanglingensissp. nov., G. inconstanssp. nov., G. pingtangensissp. nov. and G. reniformissp. nov.) are proposed and G. pamphilae is recorded from China for the first time. The phylogenetic tree was constructed using ITS+LSU+TEF+ACT+RPB1 and the results were basically the same as ITS+LSU. All species of Gongronella, except G. namwonensis from fresh water, were isolated from soil. The genus is distributed worldwide, mainly in tropical and subtropical regions. A synoptic key is provided for a total of 24 species (18 species previously published and six species newly described herein), except for G. banzhaoae due to unavailable protologue, type and living culture. No morphologies were described when G. pamphilae was proposed. Thanks to the strains isolated in this study, G. pamphilae is included in the key and reported as a Chinese new record. This is the first comprehensive taxonomy and phylogeny of the genus Gongronella.

Abstract:Discovering novel Xylaria species. The genus Xylaria comprises a diverse group of fungi with a global distribution and significant ecological importance, known for being a source of bioactive secondary metabolites with antibacterial, antioxidative, anticarcinogenic, and additional properties. In this study, we present a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the species of Xylaria found in some parts of southern China, characterized by an extensive multilocus phylogeny analysis based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS), TUB2 (β‐tubulin), and DNA‐directed RNA polymerase II subunit 2 (rpb2) gene regions. Morphological examination and detailed comparative analyses of the collected specimens were conducted to determine the distinctiveness of each species. The multilocus phylogeny approach allowed us to infer evolutionary relationships and assess species boundaries accurately, leading to the identification of 40 novel Xylaria species hitherto unknown to science. The newly described species are: X. baoshanensis, X. bawanglingensis, X. botryoidalis, X. dadugangensis, X. doupengshanensis, X. fanglanii, X. glaucae, X. guizhouensis, X. japonica, X. jinghongensis, X. jinshanensis, X. kuankuoshuiensis, X. liboensis, X. negundinis, X. orbiculati, X. ovata, X. pseudoanisopleura, X. pseudocubensis, X. pseudobambusicola, X. pseudoglobosa, X. pseudohemisphaerica, X. pseudohypoxylon, X. puerensis, X. qianensis, X. qiongzhouensis, X. rhombostroma, X. serratifoliae, X. shishangensis, X. shuqunii, X. shuangjiangensis, X. sinensis, X. tongrenensis, X. umbellata, X. xishuiensis, X. yaorenshanensis, X. yinggelingensis, X. yumingii, X. yunnanensis, X. zangmui, and X. zonghuangii. The study's findings shed light on the distinctiveness of the newly described species, supported by both morphological distinctions and phylogenetic relationships with their close relatives. This taxonomic revision significantly contributes to our understanding the diversity of Xylaria in China and enriches the knowledge of fungal biodiversity worldwide.

Abstract:Three new wood-inhabiting fungal species, Lyomyces punctatomarginatus , L. lancangjiangensis and Mycobernardia yunnanensis, are proposed based on a combination of morphological features and molecular evidence. Lyomyces punctatomarginatus is characterized by a smooth hymenophore, a monomitic hyphal system with the generative hyphae having clamp connections, the presence of fusoid cystidia, and ellipsoid basidiospores (4–5.3 × 2.5–3 μm); L. lancangjiangensis is characterized by a monomitic hyphal system with clamped generative hyphae, fusiform and capitate cystidia, and ellipsoid basidiospores (4.5–5.8 × 2.8–4.5 μm) . Mycobernardia yunnanensis is characterized by a monomitic hyphal system with clamped generative hyphae, and allantoid basidiospores (4.5–6.3 × 2–3 μm). Sequences of ITS and nLSU rDNA markers of the studied samples were generated and phylogenetic analyses were performed with maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony, and Bayesian inference methods. The phylogram inferred from the ITS dataset revealed that L. punctatomarginatus formed a monophyletic lineage and was grouped closely with L. crustosus , L. juniperi , L. niveus and L. ochraceoalbus . Additionally, L. lancangjiangensis grouped closely with L. albopulverulentus and L. bambusinus with strong supports. The phylogenetic tree inferred from the ITS + LSU rDNA sequences highlighted that the new species M. yunnanensis was sister to M. incrustans , the type species of the genus Mycobernardia within the family Corticiaceae .

Abstract:Pleurotheciaceae is a genera-rich and highly diverse family of fungi with a worldwide distribution in aquatic and terrestrial habitats. During the investigation of lignicolous freshwater fungi from karst landscapes in Yunnan Province, China, 15 fresh strains were obtained from submerged decaying wood. Based on the morphology and phylogenetic analysis of a combined LSU, ITS, SSU, and rpb2 sequence dataset, Obliquifusoideum triseptatum, Phaeoisaria obovata, Pleurotheciella brachyspora, Pl. longidenticulata, and Pl. obliqua were introduced as new species, P. synnematica and Rhexoacrodictys melanospora were reported as new habitat records, and P. sedimenticola and Pl. hyalospora were reported as new collections. In addition, based on morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analysis, we accepted Obliquifusoideum into in the family Pleurotheciaceae (Pleurotheciales, Savoryellomycetidae). Freshwater habitats are the primary habitats of Pleurotheciaceae species, and Yunnan Province has the highest concentration and species diversity of Pleurotheciaceae in China.

Abstract:Species of Gyroporus from southern China were studied in this study. Based on morphology and molecular phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences from the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nrLSU), and the mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate ATP synthase subunit 6 (atp6), Gyroporus was divided into four main branches in the phylogenetic tree, and four sections were firstly proposed i.e. Gyroporus sect. Castaneus, G. sect. Cyanescens, G. sect. Longicystidiatus and G. sect. Pallidus. Five new species, i.e. G. alboluteus, G. atrocyanescens, G. pseudolongicystidiatus, G. pallidus and G. subcaerulescens, were revealed from China, and their phylogenetic positions were also analysed. Among them, G. alboluteus and G. pallidus were nested into the sect. Pallidus, although morphologically similar to G. castaneus; G. atrocyanescens and G. subcaerulescens, with obvious cyanescent oxidation reactions, were nested into the sect. Cyanescens; and G. pseudolongicystidiatus characterised by its long cystidia and was nested into the sect. Longicystidiatus. The new species were formally described and illustrated in the present study, and a key to the sections and species of Gyroporus in China was provided.

Abstract:Southwestern China has been widely acknowledged as a global biodiversity hotspot, renowned for its high levels of floral, faunal and microbial diversity. However, research on fungi, particularly microfungi, remains limited with comparison to the other kingdoms i . e . Plantae and Animalia. Within the fungal kingdom, the subclass Xylariomycetidae (Sordariomycetes, Ascomycota), presents a vast range of macro- and micro-morphological features, yet our knowledge of their taxonomy, diversity and geographical distribution is still lacking. To fill out this knowledge gap, our study focused on a survey of Xylariomycetidae taxa across diverse habitats in the Southwest of China, encompassing the provinces of Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan. The primary objective of this study was to examine fresh collections of terrestrial Xylariomycetidae and to investigate their taxonomy and phylogeny via polyphasic approaches. Employing phylogenetic analysis of targeted DNA loci within specific families and genera, encompassing all accessible ex- type and non-type strains as well as holotypes and additional herbarium material, we elucidated novel taxonomic relationships among Xylariomycetidae in Southwestern China. Our analyses revealed 30 previously unidentified species and confirmed the existence of 20 known species within the Xylariomycetidae. We also validly publish Apiospora koreana as a new species as it was previously invalidly published. Fourteen new species are introduced to Amphisphaeriales viz. . Amphisphaeria ailaoshanensis, , A. . kunmingensis, , A. . magna, , A. . shangrilaensis, , A. . xishuangbannaense (Amphisphaeriaceae), Apiospora arecacearum, , A. . koreana, , A. . menglaensis, , A. senecionis and A. . trachycarpi (Apiosporaceae), Neoamphisphaeria shangrilaensis (Appendicosporaceae), Iodosphaeria sichuanensis (Iodosphaeriaceae), Broomella meilishanguensis and Robillarda sichuanensis (Sporocadaceae). In Xylariales, 14 new species were introduced viz. . Barrmaelia yunnanensis, , B. shangrilaensis, , Entosordaria shangrilana (Barrmaeliaceae), Diatrypella kunmingensis, , Peroneutypa hongheensis (Diatrypaceae), Fasciatispora sichuanensis ( Fasciatisporaceae ), Hypoxylon guiyangense, , H. guizhouense (Hypoxylaceae), Requienella shangrilana (Requienellaceae), Vamsapriya sichuanensis (Vamsapriyaceae), Collodiscula yunnanensis, , Digitodochium ailaoshanense, , D. yunnanensis and Nemania leishanensis (Xylariaceae). We identified three new Distoseptispora species, D. chishuiensis, , D . liupanshuiensis and D . sichuanensis, , in Sordariomycetidae. These findings greatly enhance our understanding of fungal diversity in the region, highlighting the presence of numerous potentially novel species and providing a compelling opportunity for mycologists to explore further research avenues. Additionally, the comprehensive morphological descriptions and molecular sequences generated by this study serve as valuable resources for future taxonomic studies and contribute to a broader understanding of fungal diversity in Southwestern China.
A novel Mallocybe species (Inocybaceae, Agaricales) discovered in the Longquan Mountain of Southwestern China

Abstract:Within the genus Mallocybe, new species have been continuously discovered on a global scale, yet only few species have been reported from China. During surveys of macro-fungi diversity and taxonomy in Sichuan Province, China, two samples were collected in the forests dominated by Quercus glauca and identified as a new member of this genus, namely Mallocybe longquanensis. Morphologically, M. longquanensis is distinguished by its small-sized basidioma, light brown to yellowish-brown pileus covered with tomentose-fibrillose, ellipsoidal or ovoid basidiospores, as well as the utriform, clavate to cylindrical cheilocystidia. Multi-gene phylogenetic analysis of ITS, LSU, and rpb2 also revealed that the new taxon forms a distinct lineage within the genus Mallocybe. The detailed morphological features, color photographs, and comparisons with morphological similar taxa are provided.

Abstract:China has a complex and diverse forest ecological environment, which breeds abundant forest macrofungi, including some edible, medicinal, and poisonous species. During the investigations of macrofungi in the Saihanba National Nature Reserve, North China, we collected abundant specimens of Agaricales and Polyporales within the Agaricomycetes. Based on the morphological characters and molecular evidence of DNA sequences including the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the small subunit of mitochondrial rRNA gene (mtSSU), the small subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nuSSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB1), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene (RPB2), the beta-tubulin gene (TUB), and the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF1), this study identifies ten species of Agaricales and Polyporales new to science, viz. Cyanosporus subpopuli, Gelatinofungus betulina, Lycoperdon pseudoperlatum, Macrocystidia hebeiensis, Mycena subbrunnea, M. subpura, M. variispora, M. violocea-ardesiaca, Picipes griseus, and Pleuroflammula hebeiensis. Detailed morphological descriptions, fruiting bodies, and microscopic structure diagrams of these ten novel species are provided.
Floral Survey of the Diatom Genera Cymbella and Gomphonema (cymbellales, Bacillariophyta) from the Jolmolungma Mountain Region of China

Abstract:We report on taxa from the diatom genera Gomphonema and Cymbella (Cymbellales, Bacillariophyta) found in the Jolmolungma Mountain region of China. This region is unique for its diversity of habitats, which include rivers, springs, moist soil, snowfields, swamps and lakes. We re-examine diatom taxa found in samples first documented in 1973 (Jao et A, 1973) and incorporate recent taxonomic revisions from the literature. In the genera Gomphonema and Cymbella we report 113 species and varieties. Of these 113 taxa, 59 are new record for China; 1 new combination, Encyonema jolmolungmensis, is made. Morphometric data and habitat features are reported for each taxon. Their distribution is strongly correlated to their microhabitats.

Abstract:Marasmius albopurpureus , a new species belonging to section Globulares , was found on a subtropical island, Baili Island, in southern China. It is characterized by its white to purple rugulose to sulcate pileus, distant and sometimes underdeveloped lamellae, and long basidiospores. It is described, illustrated and compared with similar taxa according to the morphological and molecular data.

Abstract:31 dematiaceous hyphomycetes belonging to 18 genera are reported from Shennongjia region, China. Among them, 2 new species are described and illustrated. Acrodictys oblonga sp. nov. is characterized by percurrently proliferating conidiophores, lageniform to doliiform conidiogenous cells and ellipsoidal to oblong, muriform conidia. Tetraploa opaca sp. nov. is characterized by ovate or obpyriform conidia, usually composed of three columns of cells with long and hard setiform appendages. Six genera; Bactrodesmium, Cordana, Cryptocoryneum, Matsushimaea, Phaeoisariopsis and Trichocladium, and 12 species; Acrodictys atroapicula, A. septosporioides, Bactrodesmium atrum, B. pallidum, Cheiromoniliophora gracilis var. hispanica, Cordana pauciseptata, Crytocoryneum condensation, Dictyosporium toruloides, D. triseriale, Malsushimaea fasciculate, Phaeoisariopsis pubescens and Trichocladium opacum, are new records for China. The new taxa are described and illustrated, and compared with similar species.

Abstract:An investigation of members of the soil keratinophilic fungi community in China resulted in the identification of one new monotypic genus, Zongqia , and 10 new species, 2 of which are affiliated with Solomyces , 1 with the new genus Zongqia , 4 with Pseudogymnoascus , and 3 with Scedosporium . These novel taxa form an independent lineage distinct from other species, based on morphological and multilocus phylogenetic analyses. Descriptions, illustrations, and notes are provided for each taxon. These new taxa of the soil keratinophilic fungi add to the increasing number of fungi known from China, and it is now evident that numerous novel taxa are waiting to be described. IMPORTANCE Keratinophilic fungi are a group that can degrade and utilize keratin-rich material. It is also because of this ability that many taxa can cause infections in animals or humans but remain poorly studied. In this study, we reported a novel genus and 10 novel species, 7 novel species belonging to the order Thelebolales and 3 to the genus Scedosporium , based on multilocus phylogenetic analyses combined with morphological characteristics. Our study significantly updates the taxonomy of Thelebolales and Scedosporium and enhances our understanding of this group of the keratin-degrading fungal community. The findings also encourage future studies on the artificially constructed keratin-degrading microbial consortia.

Abstract:The karst landform in Yunnan Province, China, represents one of the most biodiverse regions for Hemiphyllodactylus. Previous research has revealed that the karst forests in this province host a greater diversity of Hemiphyllodactylus than previously acknowledged. However, substantial fundamental data essential for taxonomic and biogeographical studies are lacking. We conducted extensive surveys for Hemiphyllodactylus in the Yunnan Province that led to the discovery of three new species from Menglian Dai, Lahu, and Wa Autonomous County and Jinghong City based on morphological and genetic data. A phylogenetic reconstruction based on the ND2 gene (1038 bp) placed the three new species into clade 3 and clade 4 of Agung et al. The uncorrected genetic pairwise distance of the Menglian specimens were greater than 5.7%, and those of the Jinghong City specimens were greater than 5.2% and 8.5%, respectively. They could be distinguished from their congeners by body size, chin scales, internasal scales, ventral scales, dorsal scales, and the total number of femoral and precloacal pores. Furthermore, we update the distributional knowledge of the known species.
Taxonomy and Multigene Phylogeny of Diaporthales in Guizhou Province, China

Abstract:In a study of fungi isolated from plant material in Guizhou Province, China, we identified 23 strains of Diaporthales belonging to nine species. These are identified from multigene phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, rpb2, tef1, and tub2 gene sequence data coupled with morphological studies. The fungi include a new genus (Pseudomastigosporella) in Foliocryphiaceae isolated from Acer palmatum and Hypericum patulum, a new species of Chrysofolia isolated from Coriaria nepalensis, and five new species of Diaporthe isolated from Juglans regia, Eucommia ulmoides, and Hypericum patulum. Gnomoniopsis rosae and Coniella quercicola are newly recorded species for China.
