Abstract:Reflection on and criticism of enlightenment reason is an indispensable part of the Enlightenment itself. It is an important counterbalance to the Enlightenment myth and the crisis of modernity, as well as being a major theoretical subject for political philosophy in the age of globalization. This reflection and criticism must be grasped and examined from both the external perspective of socio-historical requirements and the internal perspective of intellectual history. While giving full credit to the achievements of Enlightenment reason and modernity, we need to review their inherent conflicts, reveal the resultant social crisis, and sort out, reflect on and reference postmodernism's denunciation of Enlightenment reason and the crisis of modernity in order to provide a more far-reaching solution to these issues. Marx turned the critique of Enlightenment reason and modernity into a critical reconstruction of the logic of capital and the capitalist mode of production, seeing the resolution of these evils as lying in transcendence of capitalist private ownership. In this way, he brought the critique of Enlightenment reason to a climax and showed modern society a way to more advanced development.

Abstract:Markets are one of the most fundamental institutions in human societies.In principle,from the times of Adam Smith economic research has been developed around the subject of markets.However,to date,economists have failed to offer a theory of the market itself.Following the Coasian paradigm,this paper explored the basic question of "why do markets exist" and identified both the boundary and substitution conditions of the existence of the market.Based on the existence theory of the market,we further examined how ubiquitous multilateral transaction costs shape the macro-framework and micro-structure of the market network and how these transaction costs determine the nature and function of firms within market network as well as how transaction costs and market network affect economic growth.This paper concludes that today's economics should study the market not only as an invisible hand but also as a tangible network.

Abstract:Alienation has its profound basis in anthropology,and it is necessary to seek some fundamental factors causing alienation by studying the nature of labor.Labor on one hand makes man different from animals,and on the other hand creates man and forms human own kind's essence.However,labor not only has its positive meanings,but also keeps its negative aspects,that is,when it contacts with objects,it is likely to plunge into will power and the illusion of desire self-complacence.Therefore,either the positive or negative aspect of labor,both of them provide the anthropological basis,especially the negative plays more roles.The externalization of labor's internal contradiction is represented by the relation between capital and labor.In such an externalization,labor realizes its own affirmation through denying itself.

Abstract:This paper mainly discusses the important problems in contemporary Chinese cultural studies whose flourishing in contemporary China reflects some immanent drive in the intellectual politics of the “post-revolutionary era,” and the disputes about it embody a tension within the community of academic intellectuals.The rise of cultural studies has led to a new distribution of symbolic capital in the academic field.As a paradigm of introducing Western academy into the East,cultural studies constantly requires domestication,the key of which lies in the way of raising questions on Chinese domestication,and in our sense of difference when we use western theories to answer these questions in order to make possible for the transformation of domestic intellectual paradigms.In contemporary China,cultural studies is facing a double pressure of both the scholarly institutionalization and commercialization,and the key to overcome this pressure is to keep its criticalness and its concern for reality.

Abstract:There is no rupture between the early-stage and the late-stage western Marxism. Inheriting Hegelism and carrying forward Marx' philosophy of praxis and philosophical anthropology, early western Marxism applied its critique to the human nature and the cultural structure of the capital society. These efforts are of general significance to the capitalism, thus bringing early theories of western Marxism into a tradition, which has been carried on by Frankfurt School and those western Marxists since the 1970s. The late-stage western Marxism never leaves behind its predecessor's main interest in the philosophical criticism of capitalism, and lays more emphasis on postmodernity, consumerism, popular culture, signs, identity, locality, spatial politics, techno-ideology, etc. The changes show though culture is turning to be a main interest in the west, cultural critique is still based on Marxist historical materialism, especially the criticism of capitalism by Marxist political economics.

Abstract:In our country's transition to socialist market system,the capital is playing a greater role with visible socioeconomic growth but at the same time it augments negative influences such as exploitation,polarization,etc.These negative phenomena deriving from capital's nature and its inner mechanism could never die by means of exterior restraints.Capital has its rationality of existence in present China,but it must be surpassed in a more reasonable society in the future.Confronted with these problems,the right thing is not only to limit capital effects but also to surpass capital through socialized construction.

Abstract:Capital is very important in the contemporary era,because Capital is scientific conception of development,which has revealed law of social development.Capital elaborates with materialist dialectics the relations among Productive force(material contents with the combination of labor power and material resources),production relations(social formation with combination of labor power owner and material resources owner,and relations within derivative products owners)and Superstructure(social formation of politics,law and ideology,which production relations principally embodies.).The developing history of human society is on the basis of the development of productive force,and thereby leads the action and reaction between production relations and superstructure.Social development means innovation.So,we should pay attention to the development of Capital in the contemporary era.This paper especially mentions the influence of natural conditions upon the productive force,including population,natural resources and environment,which is the source of productive force.About productive force itself,we should pay attention of scientific technology,which is the first productive force,and education.About production relations,we should know that the law of value in market economy promotes productive force,and how the production relations determine the distribution relations,then which is realized by the distribution relations.

Abstract:A culturally shaped Chinese capitalism has received much attention over the last decade, accompanied by a renewed interest in Confucianism as the marker for Chinese culture. This essay argues against culturalist explanations of the successful economic development of Chinese (and more generally, East Asian) societies. The flourishing of capitalism in these societies, it argues instead, is best understood with reference to developments within capitalism globally. Rather than a source of capitalist development, a Chinese culture conceived homogeneously provides an ideological alibi to new developments within capitalism, as well as a means to check the disruptive effects of capitalist development in Chinese societies. An insistence on Chineseness conceived culturally disguises, and seeks to contain, the social and cultural dispersal of Chinese populations, the so‐called Chinese diaspora.

Abstract:Marx' and Engels' lifelong though unfinished efforts lie in their understanding and critique of capitalism, which resulted in such classics as Das Kapital, an exemplar for analyzing capitalism via its particular mode of production. Five phases can be distinguished in the historical development of this exemplar: 1) Before 1844: Criticizing Prussian feudalism in light of bourgeois revolution and making the burgerliche Gesellschaft the departure point for study; 2) From 1844 to the spring of 1845: Probing into political economics and revealing the capitalism, through the theory of entfremdete Arbeit, as an inhuman, disintegrated and industry-dominating society; 3) From the spring of 1845 to 1849: Inquiring scientifically the material production, viewing capitalist society from a historical perspective, and considering the class struggle as the means of realizing communism; 4) From 1850 to the end of 1860s: Restudying economics, starting with Das Kapital, making clear, through analyzing the surplus value, the overall control of social life by the capital and establishing a classic exemplar for the understanding of capitalism; 5) developing the theories of changing capitalism and that of anthropological studies in Marx' and Engels' late years.

Abstract:This article sets a new agenda for research on the trajectory of Chinese capitalism. We first critically review the conflicting views on the causes of China's economic development. Then we suggest that insights from the comparative capitalism and economic sociology literatures can provide theoretical tools to understand the critical features of Chinese capitalism in a more systematic manner. The comparative capitalism literature can help us understand how Chinese capitalism resembles or differs from other varieties of capitalism in terms of the relationships between government, firms, and workers. The literature on economic sociology provides insights about how particular markets have evolved and become stabilized. We use these perspectives to suggest a set of possible research agendas for studying Chinese capitalism.
