Empirical Research in Translation Studies: Theory, Methodology and Advance

Abstract:Empirical research has been making new progresses in the research of translation theory in the west, with respect to its profound theoretical support, methodologies with newer experimental media, richer research subjects, and the further application of its results. Subsequently, the themes of empirical research in translation studies have been firmly established: in light of describing translation process, recognizing translator’s thinking processes and translation strategies, studying his cognitive competence and translation expertise, thus, the present paper proposes some constructive suggestions upon translation pedagogy and translator training. The new developments of empirical research make the descriptive studies more scientific, creative, valid and efficient, on which, its applicative values could be obtained.
