Abstract:In this paper, we consider an unstable linear parabolic diffusion-reaction PDE system with an actuator at the right boundary via the Dirichlet condition. We begin to derive the first order necessary conditions for the open loop finite-time horizon problem using the classical variational approach. Then, we discuss the the state-feedback problem, and obtain the feedback law by formulating the Riccati partial differential equation (PDE). Finally, with the feedback law, we could prove the stability for the state-feedback problem exponential stability with any given decay rate in the time domain without solving the Riccati PDE.

Abstract:We prove the well posedness of a class of non linear and non local mixed hyperbolic-parabolic systems in bounded domains, with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In view of control problems, stability estimates on the dependence of solutions on data and parameters are also provided. These equations appear in models devoted to population dynamics or to epidemiology, for instance.

Abstract:Convergence to stationary solutions in fully nonlinear parabolic systems with general nonlinear boundary conditions is shown in situations where the set of stationary solutions creates a $C^2$-manifold of finite dimension which is normally stable. We apply the parabolic Hölder setting which allows to deal with nonlocal terms including highest order point evaluation. In this direction some theorems concerning the linearized systems is also extended. As an application of our main result we prove that the lens-shaped networks generated by circular arcs are stable under the surface diffusion flow.

Dynamics and Stability of Systems

Abstract:The existence of bounded solutions (including in particular homoclinic and heteroclinic solutions) is studied for non-autonomous perturbed parabolic partial differential equations, without the restriction that the linear variational equation has a unique non-trivial bounded solution. Specifically, an idea applied to ordinary differential equations by Hale (1984) and by Battelli and Laari (1990) is realised in an infinite-dimensional setting. Like other work on related problems, the main technique is Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction; we use that technique here in the context of bounded solutions, rather than the more usual setting of periodic or homoclinic solutions. Moreover, several technical obstacles are circumvented in the infinite-dimensional setting-in particular in the proof of the existence of a solution to the reduced bifurcation equation. Non-uniqueness is shown to occur for the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, demonstrating the need to remove the uniqueness restriction.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the global existence and asymptotical stability of solutions to a class of parabolic systems with homogeneous nonlinearity for both bounded and unbounded domains. First we prove both global existence and finite time blow-up of solutions of the system for different initial conditions by using the potential well method, and the asymptotic behavior of the solutions are also considered. On the other hand, we also obtain global existence and finite time blow-up of solutions for both Sobolev subcritical and critical cases. We use a method of comparing least energy levels with that of semitrivial solutions to overcome the difficulties here.

Abstract:We consider backward problems for semilinear coupled parabolic systems in bounded domains. We prove conditional stability estimates for linear and semilinear systems of strongly coupled parabolic equations involving general semilinearities. The proof of the stability estimates relies on a modified method by Carleman estimates incorporating the simple weight function $e^{\lambda t}$ with a sufficiently large parameter $\lambda$.

Abstract:The stability of stationary solutions of first-order systems of PDE's are considered. They may include some singular geometric terms, leading to discontinuous flux and non-conservative products. Based on several examples in Fluid Mechanics, we assume that these systems are endowed with a partially convex entropy. We first construct an associated relative entropy which allows to compare two states which share the same geometric data. This way, we are able to prove the stability of some stationary states within entropy weak solutions. This result applies for instance to the shallow-water equations with bathymetry. Besides, this relative entropy can be used to study finite volume schemes which are entropy-stable and well-balanced, and due to the numerical dissipation inherent to these methods, asymptotic stability of discrete stationary solutions is obtained. This analysis does not make us of any specific definition of the non-conservative products, applies to non-strictly hyperbolic systems, and is fully multidimensional with unstructured meshes for the numerical methods.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate the existence of generalized solutions to coupling evolution p-Laplacian systems with the first initial boundary value conditions.The authors applied the method of parabolic regularization to prove the existence of generalized solution to the problem.By making a sequence of estimates to the solutions,the authors proved the weak convergence of the approximation solution sequence and hence testified the existence of generalized solutions.Finally,the authors found some conditions under which the solutions exists globally.

Abstract:We investigate global bounded solutions of higher regularity to boundary value problems for a general linear nonautonomous first order 1D hyperbolic system in a strip. We establish the existence of such solutions under the assumption of exponential stability and certain dissipativity (or non-resonant) conditions. Our results demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of $C^1$- and $C^2$-bounded solutions, in particular, periodic and almost periodic solutions. The number of imposed dissipativity conditions is related to the regularity of solutions. This connection arises due to the nonautonomous nature of the hyperbolic system under consideration, in contrast to autonomous settings. In the general case of global bounded smooth solutions we assume exponential stability in $H^1$. In the case of periodic solutions, the weaker assumption of $L^2$-exponential stability proves to be sufficient.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the singular parabolic system ut=Δu+f(x)v−p,vt=Δv+g(x)u−q in a smooth bounded domain Ω⊂RN subject to zero Dirichlet conditions, with initial conditions u0(x),v0(x)>0. This problem is of interest as it is related to some problems in biology and physics. Under suitable assumptions on p,q and f(x),g(x), some existence results of weak and classical solutions are obtained using a functional method. This method is motivated by such results found in [4] and [5] when dealing with singular parabolic systems and the related references within.

Abstract:In the present paper, we consider the following singularly perturbed problem: {-epsilon(2)Delta u + V(x)u = epsilon(-alpha) (I-alpha * F(u))f(u), x is an element of R-N; u is an element of H-1(R-N), where epsilon > 0 is a parameter, N >= 3, alpha is an element of (0, N), F(t) = integral(t)(0) f(s)ds and I-alpha : R-N -> R is the Riesz potential. By introducing some new tricks, we prove that the above problem admits a semiclassical ground state solution (epsilon is an element of (0, epsilon(0))) and a ground state solution (epsilon = 1) under the general "Berestycki-Lions assumptions" on the nonlinearity f which are almost necessary, as well as some weak assumptions on the potential V. When epsilon = 1, our results generalize and improve the ones in [V. Moroz, J. Van Schaftingen, T. Am. Math. Soc. 367 (2015) 6557-6579] and [H. Berestycki, P.L. Lions, Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 82 (1983) 313-345] and some other related literature. In particular, we propose a new approach to recover the compactness for a (PS)-sequence, and our approach is useful for many similar problems.

Abstract:This paper studies the stability of large data solutions to the 2D fully/partially dissipative Boussinesq systems on the unit square subject to various types of boundary conditions, including dynamic Couette flow. It is shown that under suitable conditions on the boundary data, solutions starting in H3 exist globally in time and the differences between the solutions and their corresponding boundary data converge to zero in certain topology as time goes to infinity. There is no smallness restrictions on initial data.

Abstract:We investigate the regularity of semi-stable, radially symmetric, and decreasing solutions for a class of quasilinear reaction-diffusion equations in the inhomogeneous context of Riemannian manifolds. We prove uniform boundedness, Lebesgue and Sobolev estimates for this class of solutions for equations involving the p-Laplace Beltrami operator and locally Lipschitz non-linearity. We emphasize that our results do not depend on the boundary conditions and the specific form of the non-linearities and metric. Moreover, as an application, we establish regularity of the extremal solutions for equations involving the p-Laplace Beltrami operator with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to investigate the stabilization of locally weakly coupled second‐order evolution equations of hyperbolic type, where only one of the two equations is directly damped. As such system cannot be exponentially stable, we are interested in polynomial energy decay rates. Our main contributions concern strong abstract and polynomial stability properties based on stability properties of two auxiliary problems: the sole damped equation and the second equation with a damping related to the coupling operator. The main novelty is that the polynomial energy decay rates are obtained in different important situations not covered before; let us mention the case of a coupling operator not partially coercive and not necessarily bounded. The main tools are the use of the frequency domain approach combined with new multipliers technique based on the solutions of the resolvent equations of the two auxiliary problems mentioned before. Finally, our abstract framework is illustrated by several concrete examples not treated before.
