Under the assumption that the system is weakly dissipative, Hanouzet and Natalini established the global existence of smooth solutions for small initial data (in Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., Vol. 169, 2003, pp. 89–117). The aim of this paper is to give a completely different proof of this result with slightly different assumptions.

Abstract:Consider a quasi-linear system of two Klein–Gordon equations with masses m1, m2. We prove that when m1≠2m2 and m2≠2m1, such a system has global solutions for small, smooth, compactly supported Cauchy data. This extends a result proved by Sunagawa (J. Differential Equations 192 (2) (2003) 308) in the semi-linear case. Moreover, we show that global existence holds true also when m1=2m2 and a convenient null condition is satisfied by the nonlinearities.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the global compactness results for quasilinear elliptic problems involving combined critical Sobolev–Hardy terms on the whole space and a bounded smooth domain, respectively. That is, we give the complete descriptions for the Palais–Smale (PS) sequences of the corresponding energy functionals. By using these descriptions, the existence results of solutions are also obtained.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate the existence of generalized solutions to coupling evolution p-Laplacian systems with the first initial boundary value conditions.The authors applied the method of parabolic regularization to prove the existence of generalized solution to the problem.By making a sequence of estimates to the solutions,the authors proved the weak convergence of the approximation solution sequence and hence testified the existence of generalized solutions.Finally,the authors found some conditions under which the solutions exists globally.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the complete descriptions for the PS-sequences of the energy functionals associated with the singular quasilinear elliptic problems involving critical Sobolev exponents on a bounded smooth domain invariant under the action of a group of orthogonal transformations and the whole space, respectively. Abstract:In this paper, we consider the mixed initial-boundary value problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems with nonlinear boundary conditions in a half-unbounded domain {(t, x)\ t greater than or equal to 0, x greater than or equal to 0}. Under the assumption that, the positive eigenvalues are weakly linearly degenerate, we obtain the global existence and uniqueness of C-1 solution with small and decaying initial data. Some applications are given for the system of the planar motion of an elastic string.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the existence of positive solutions for singular elliptic equations with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions involving Sobolev-Hardy critical exponents and Hardy terms by using the concentration compactness principle, the strong maximum principle and the Mountain Pass lemma. We also prove, under complementary conditions, that there is no nontrivial solution if the domain is star-shaped with respect to the origin.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a universal, conceptually simple and systematic method to prove well-posedness to Cauchy problems for weak solutions of parabolic equations with non-smooth, time-dependent, elliptic part having a variational definition. Our classes of weak solutions are taken with minimal assumptions. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a fundamental solution which seems new in this generality: it is shown to always coincide with the associated evolution family for the initial value problem with zero source and it yields representation of all weak solutions. Our strategy is a variational approach avoiding density arguments, a priori regularity of weak solutions or regularization by smooth operators. One of our main tools are embedding results which yield time continuity of our weak solutions going beyond the celebrated Lions regularity theorem and that is addressing a variety of source terms. We illustrate our results with three concrete applications : second order uniformly elliptic part with Dirichlet boundary condition on domains, integro-differential elliptic part, and second order degenerate elliptic part.

Abstract:It is proven that if the leftmost eigenvalue is weakly linearly degenerate, then the Cauchy problem for a class of nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic systems with small and decaying initial data given on a semi-bounded axis admits a unique global C1 solution on the domain {(t,x)|t⩾0,x⩾xn(t)}, where x=xn(t) is the fastest forward characteristic emanating from the origin. As an application of our result, we prove the existence of global classical, C1 solutions of the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory with small smooth initial data given on a semi-bounded axis.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of semilinear elliptic Dirichlet problems in a bounded regular domain with cylindrical symmetry involving concave–convex nonlinearities with supercritical growth. Using a new Sobolev embedding theorem and variational method, we show the existence of two positive solutions of the problem. Additionally, we study the quasilinear elliptic equation and obtain a similar result.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a quasilinear parabolic equation a(u(x))u(t) = u(xx) (a(s) greater-than-or-equal-to a0 > 0) subject to appropriate initial and boundary conditions. This equation can be used to describe the uni-directional motion of fluid in soft tissue. A criterion is found to ensure the global solvability or finite time quenching (i.e. u(x) becomes unbounded in finite time). A concrete example is that for a(s) = (I + s)p, the problem has a global solution if p less-than-or-equal-to 2 while the finite time quenching occurs if p > 2. The profile near the quenching time such as the single point quenching and the quenching rate are also studied. Partial results are generalized into several space dimensions.
