Abstract:The paper introduced a method for designing automobile cabin with CAD. The program is written in ADS. The empirical formula of human body feature points counted by the US SAE is used for reference. It is loaded on ACAD after compiled. The enveloping curve of human body feature points can be drawn according to automobile general layout. It can replace the function of human sample plate. With it, the automobile body can be designed and the cab space be checked.

Abstract:In the early design stage, automotive modeling should both meet the requirements of aesthetics and engineering. Therefore, a vehicle CAD (computer aided design) model that can be easily adjusted by feedbacks is necessary. Based on CE-Bézier surface, this paper presents a set of algorithms for parametric segmentation and fairing surface generation in a car model. This model is defined by a simplified automotive template and relevant control points, shape parameters and segmentation parameters, which can be modified to alter the car form efficiently. With this model and the corresponding adjustment method, more than fifty various vehicle models are established in this research according to different parameters. And two methods for calculating similarity index between car models are constructed, which are suitable for brand design trend analysis and modelling design decision-making.

Abstract:The finite element model for a bus structure was established and verified by experiment in this paper.The analysis of complete vehicle vibration mode and torsion stiffness was carried out.On the basis of FE analysis,the structural optimization design was performed by selecting the thickness of shell element as variables,the frequency of 1st torsion vibration and torsion stiffness as united constrain function,minimum weight of complete vehicle as object function.Through the analysis and verification of complete vehicle stiffness,mode and strength,it shows that the light weight scheme of this bus can meet performance request,the scheme is feasible.

Abstract:Car body design includes the construction of car sketches, 2D models and 3D models. The establishment of high-quality car body models usually relies on CAD software, which requires the proficient operating skills, and the efficiency is relatively low compared with automatic modeling. The time cost of communication between the designer and the model engineer will also affect the modeling efficiency. How to quickly and automatically generate high quality parametric models from car sketches or images efficiently has become a development direction for the automotive design. In this paper, we propose a template-based reconstruction method of 2D high-precision car body model. On the basis of the established 2D model database, a coarse model is achieved by the improved Orthogonal Matching Pursuit algorithm with few key points which are obtained by deep neural network; further, according to the proposed auto-fitting optimization algorithm of cubic Bezier curve, the modeling process of “from coarse to fine” is realized combining edge information. The proposed template-based 2D high-precision model reconstruction algorithm of the car body can greatly reduce the modeling time under the given modeling accuracy.

Abstract:Geometric modeling used in the dynamic stamping simulation of a die is discussed. Several modeling methods based on engineering drawings used often to construct 3D surface models of an autobody panel in stamping simulation are also discussed. Based on this discussion, a front-door model of a car is constructed based on the CAD system, then it is transferred into the CAE system by means of VDA data format. The calculation results of dynamic stamping simulation, including the distributions of engineering major strain and thickness change of the blank and FLD are presented. In order to verify the accuracy in modeling and simulation, experiments have been done in a plant, which show that the results of the calculation are almost identical to those of the experiments.

Three application examples, quick evaluation of stamping formability, determination of reasonable auto-sheet and optimization of drawbead design, are listed. The aim of this paper is to help the automotive industry in a better usage of the advanced CAE tool.

Abstract:The non-standard wedge aided design system of automobile panel die was developed base on the CATIA CAA secondary development technology.In the system,the replacement process was optimized by the judging method along the closed surface direction of bounding box and along the plane direction of reference coordinate system to ensure the validity of replacement.Then,the design method of non-standard wedge part was optimized by standard part design method based on the position sketch to realize quick adjustment of the standard part number and position.Furthermore,combining parameterization template of CATIA with years of design experience and design standard from enterprises,they were integrated to guarantee the consistency and rationality of the non-standard wedge design.According to the practical statistics from enterprises,the efficiency of non-standard wedge design was increased by about 50%.

Abstract:T Virtual prototype simulation analysis based on 3D modeling software and dynamic simulation software is a high-efficiency and low-cost product development model. The design and assembly of the chassis mechanism of the weeding machine are carried out in the 3D drawing software CATIA. The chassis of the weeding machine is imported into ADAMS and the constraints between the components are added to establish a virtual prototype for simulation. A variety of convex terrains are set for simulation analysis in ADAMS. The curve data is exported in the PostProcess module of ADAMS, and the comparison curve is established in Origin for analysis. The results show that the obstacle-crossing performance of the chassis of the weeding machine in the orchard meets the design requirements. The double-wishbone suspension applied to the chassis of the weeding machine can significantly improve its passing ability and stability.

Abstract:The numerical simulation on drawing process of automotive B-pillar was carried out on AutoForm software,and dangerous forming areas were discovered.The processing parameters,such as the layout of drawbeads,blank holding force and the shape of blank,were adjusted and optimized according to the simulation results.Results indicate that the quality defects can be forecast and removed,which improves the stability of forming process.The cost of design is decreased and the research cycle is shortened.It is proved that the drawing process and die design of B-pillar forming are feasible in actual production.

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">At the conceptual design stage, utilizing the detailed model to determine the rollover crashworthiness of bus structure would need long design cycle. Currently, rectangular thin-walled beams (RTWBs) are extensively used to create the real bus because of the excellent manufacturability. Remarkably, dual rectangular thin-walled beams (DRTWBs) can generate higher bending resistance. Therefore, this paper presents a rollover crashworthiness analysis and optimization method of bus frame using the RTWBs and DRTWBs. The bus frame with tire, suspension and platform structures is created in the <em class="a-plus-plus">CarFrame</em> software. Analysis numerical example verifies that the frame model, which reduces the modeling and computational costs, is in excellent agreements with the detailed model, and optimization numerical example verifies that the frame model can obtain high rollover crashworthiness and lightweight bus structure. Therefore, the frame model can effectively replace the detailed model for the rollover crashworthiness analysis and optimization.</p>

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, Ahead of Print. A variable screening-approximate model-adaptive multi-optimization algorithm integrated method is proposed to solve the high-dimensional nonlinear problems for lightweight optimization of cabs. Firstly, a full-parametric body-in-white model of the cab is established using implicit parameterization technology, and the simulation analysis of the bending and torsional stiffness, natural modal characteristics, and passive safety are established. Then, considering the structure and connection process parameters, the design variables are screened based on a gray relational analysis-TOPSIS (GRA-TOPSIS). Finally, integrated multi-objective optimization of cab structure-connection-performance is carried out by an adaptive RBF neural network optimization method, and the optimal solution is determined by the GRA-TOPSIS method. Compared with the initial model, the mass of cab is reduced by 3.28% after optimization design. It provides guidance for the lightweight design of body.

Abstract:In view of features of aluminum alloy body section of high-speed trains,such as complex structure,long design peroid and low efficiency of modeling,the parametric modeling method of aluminum alloy body section of high-speed trains is proposed based on features.At first,the concept of features is introduced,then features and topological relations of body section profiles are defined.After that,the outline and profiles of body section are parametrically modeled and the profile feature library of body section is established by using CATIA CAA secondary development technology.The body section is assembled automatically by the skeleton.Finally,a car parametric modeling of aluminum alloy body section is taken as an example to verify the correctness and validity of this method.

Abstract:Combined application of steel, aluminum and CFRP is the main direction of future lightweight body development. However, the anisotropy and additional lamination design variables of CFRP parts poses significant challenges for the development of multi-material bodies. This study establishes a parametric design method for the variable-thickness lamination scheme based on non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS), it can be coupled with existing parametric design methods for structural shapes to formulate a complete parametric design and modelling of CFRP components. On this basis, a homogenized intermediate material property is derived from classic laminate theory by introducing lamination assumptions, it enables a stepwise multi-material body optimization method to solve the challenge that components' material design variables switching between CFRP and alloy will introduce/eliminate lamination design variables iteratively, posing a great optimization convergence difficulty. The proposed parametric modeling method for CFRP components was validated by experimental tests of a fabricated roof beam, and the proposed optimization method was applied to a vehicle body, achieving 15.9%, 23.9%, 18.6%, 12.2% increase in bending and tortional stiffness and modal frequencies; 20.2%, 9.3%, 12.7% reduction of weight and peak acceleration in frontal and side collisions. This study enables the forward design of multi-material bodies compatible with CFRP parts.

Abstract:A multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO),considering lightweight,stiffness,strength,vibration mode and rollover,is implemented to an integral bus body structure to improve its synthetic performance.To conquer the difficulty of high nonlinearity brought by rollover analysis and to resolve the time consuming problem of structural finite element(FE) analysis,multidisciplinary approximate models are built.The FE models of the bus body are established,in which the stiffness,strength and vibration mode analyses are finished by Msc.Nastran,and the rollover analysis is solved by the explicit dynamic software Ls-dyna.The disciplinary variables are selected on the basis of technological requirements and sensitivity analysis results.The experimental design is finished by using optimal Latin hypercube method.Then the multidisciplinary approximate models are constructed by using the response surface method.The MDO problem is solved by using collaborative optimization approach.The result shows that the optimal solution is better than the original design in aspects of lightweight,stiffness,strength,modal vibration,and safety of rollover.

Abstract:Abstract This paper used NX8.0 to carry out the finite element analysis and topology optimization design of the electric bus seat bracket and the mechanical properties before and after optimization are compared. The results show that when the volume is reduced by 8.9%, the maximum deformation is reduced by 47.8%, the maximum stress is reduced by 66%, the average deformation is reduced by 50%, and the average stress is reduced by 54%. In this process, light weight is achieved, and the mechanical properties of the product are improved significantly. All processes are completed under the same software, which ensures the data consistency and editability. As the case involves new energy vehicles, parametric design, finite element analysis and topology optimization design, it is introduced into the CAE course as a project case under the background of “new engineering” and achieves good results.

Abstract:With the continuous development of the automobile industry, fast and efficient body styling methods have become crucial. Although traditional hand-drawn sketches and 3D modeling are feasible, they often consume lots of time, manpower and financial resources when faced with complex design requirements. Therefore, a quick method for car body modeling has become a hot topic in automotive design. This paper proposes a three-dimensional automotive wireframe model generation and surface reconstruction method based on a single image in any view. Firstly, 3D wireframe model generation for a single car image in any view. By the MobileNet V2 network trained based on the established 2D car body library USMV3085, the visual angle of a specific single car image in any view can be identified, following the relevant wireframe model can be generated with the weight coefficients computed by constrained least squares method according to the key points and the corresponding rotated key points of the 3D wireframe library. Secondly, the corresponding 3D surface is reconstructed automatically. With the skeleton line firstly computed by the Skeleton Generation Algorithm for every 2D projected split part of the 3D wireframe model, corresponding 3D boundary relation pairs and control polygons are obtained, following the 3D surface is reconstructed integrating all split parts. Compared to traditional computer-aided shape design, this automatic method greatly shortens the research and development cycle and has certain reference significance in car body design.

Abstract:Proper simulation design and experimental analysis is an efficient and low-costing way in researching and developing commercial vehicle cab suspension. A dynamic simulation model was established and testified by bench test for the development of one cab suspension, and based on which the performance of vibration isolation was optimized. A finite element model was also built and validated using the boundary condition extracted from the dynamic model. Several limiting conditions were analyzed which giving back necessary information in modifying the structure of the cab suspension. The fatigue characteristics of the cab suspension were also tested by the fatigue tester. The results show that the difficulties encountered in researching and developing the cab suspension can be efficiently solved by the method of simulation design and experimental analysis.
