Abstract:An experimental study was conducted using ceramic membrane filtration to remove algae and chlorophyll-a from water. High algae water and low algae water were tested using membranes with two pore sizes of 200 nm and 50 nm under three operation pressures of 0. 1 MPa,0. 2 MPa and 0. 3 MPa.The results showed that for both high algae water and low algae water, the algae could be completely removed with ceramic membrane filtration, and the average removal rate of chlorophyll-a was 96%. Turbidity could be effectively removed to below 0. 12 NTU,and the removal rate of COD Mn ranged from 10% to20%. The algae content could seriously affect the membrane flux, but appropriate addition of sodium hypochlorite could control the membrane fouling and improve the membrane flux. Combination of pre-chlorination with ceramic membrane filtration may be suitable for practical needs.
