Abstract:Asymmetric expansion: A catalytic asymmetric ring-expansion reaction of the title compounds occurs in the presence of a Sc(OTf)(3) catalyst bearing an N,N'-dioxide-based ligand. Highly functionalized 2-quinolone derivatives containing a chiral C4-quaternary stereocenter were obtained in high yields and high levels of selectivity under mild reaction conditions (see scheme; Tf=trifluoromethanesulfonyl).

Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:Ring-opening reactions of aziridines with trimethylsilyl compounds triggered by tetrabutylammonium fluoride give the corresponding products regioselectively in excellent yield. It provides a facile and efficient procedure for the ring-opening reactions of aziridines and affords a practical access to the synthesis of cyano-, azido-, or chloroamines because of its efficiency and simplicity. The products are easily transformed to vicinal diamines or beta-amino acids.

Abstract:A useful transformation of nitriles to N-phenyl amides has been achieved through a novel intermolecular phenyl transfer reaction from phenyl hydrazides and N-addition to nitriles in the presence of PIFA under mild and solvent-free conditions. This cross coupling reaction includes the oxidative cleavage of sp(2) C-N bonds of phenyl hydrazides to form a phenyl radical and the subsequent N-addition to cyanos to form new sp(2) C-N bonds and provides efficient access to various N-phenyl amides in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:A facile and direct intramolecular oxidative C(aryl)-H amidation reaction was developed for the synthesis of quinolino[3,4-b]quinoxalin-6(5H)-ones in moderate to excellent yields starting from readily available materials by tethering the adjacent N-methoxyamide and aryl portions in the presence of phenyliodine(III) bis(trifluoroacetate) at room temperature. This metal-free approach is a valuable addition to the traditional methods already available for the preparation of these molecules.

Abstract:α-Aminoacetophenones are identified as promising building blocks for the synthesis of highly substituted dioxolanes. The presented strategy is founded on the build and release of molecular strain and achieves a formal transposition of a methyl group. During light irradiation, 3-phenylazetidinols are forged as reaction intermediates, which readily undergo ring opening upon the addition of electron-deficient ketones or boronic acids. Key to the successful development of this two-step process is the identification of a benzhydryl-protecting group, which orchestrates the photochemical Norrish-Yang cyclization and facilitates the subsequent ring opening.

Abstract:A highly efficient iodine anion catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative aromatization of cyclohexenones with amines has been developed under metal-free conditions, which affords aromatic amines in good to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope. Meanwhile, this reaction provides a new method for the construction of C(sp2)-N bonds and also a new strategy for slow generation of oxidants or electrophiles via in situ dehalogenation. Moreover, this protocol affords a rapid and concise approach to chiral NOBIN derivatives.

Abstract:A mild and efficient procedure was developed for the regioselective ring-opening nucleophilic addition reactions of aziridines via visible light photoredox catalysis, that provides a practical synthetic access to 1,2-bifunctional compounds. Furthermore, the regioselective synthesis of non-racemic amino ethers from chiral aziridine could also be achieved under mild conditions. Finally, a possible reaction mechanism was proposed and further supported by control experiments.

Abstract:A synthesis of azepines by the expansion of pyridine rings promoted by iodine in air is reported. The scope of the method is demonstrated with 27 examples. Abstract:The P-nucleophilic ring-opening of oxazolines is a highly desired but rarely reported reaction. We have developed a ring-opening phosphanylation of oxazolines using lithium diphenylphosphanide as the nucleophile without loss of optical purity. This methodology is compatible with various chiral pyridine-oxazolines bearing different substituents and features the advantage of mild conditions with easy operation.

Abstract:The ring opening of NH-aziridines with thiols was found to proceed in good yield at room temperature in the presence of an ionic liquid—1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIM chloride). This mild methodology was applied to the synthesis of a camphor-derived chiral aminosulfide. The sulfide was used to generate a sulfur ylide, which effected an asymmetric epoxidation of benzaldehyde (e.r. 85:15, trans:cis 90:10, 87% yield). The amino group enabled easy recovery of the sulfide (98% yield) after the reaction by a simple acid/base extraction.

Abstract:Under neutral reaction conditions, aromatic ketones were transformed into the corresponding a.-iodo ketones in high yields by the combination of copper(II) oxide and iodine. The reaction mechanism showed that copper(II) oxide played multiple roles through random self-sorting.

Abstract:A ring-expansion reaction of 2H-azirine with trifluoroacetic anhydride for the synthesis of 2-(trifluo-romethyl)oxazoles is disclosed.
