Abstract:Feng-shui theory can be seen as a part of folklore and culture in China.The key value orientation of geomantic thought is that the dwelling space of human should be harmonious with the environment.Through analyzing the Feng-shui theory and idealized model,with the example of Jingju temple and Guoqing temple,this article analyzed and discussed the Feng-shui and landscape ecology benefit of the buddhist temple garden of Tiantai Stream based on landscape ecology,and summed up the connection between Feng-shui theory and landscape ecology benefit.
On the Artistic Features of "Feng Poetry" through an Analysis of the Ballad Structure

Abstract:The author reexamines the characteristics of the lyrical poetry in Poetry Guo Feng by making a comparison between Feng poetry and the ballads recorded in Pre-Qin Books. He points out that a ballad is the direct expressions of the poet, who makes a reaction to something happened. Both Feng poetry and the ballads are lyrics that either express emotions or describe an isolated act or scenery. They do not portray the whole process of a story. In order to identify the theme and find out what engaged the poet’s attention for his reaction in the poem, one must look for references outside the text. It is commonly accepted that poetry is beyond translation. Given the fact that any type of interpretation of Poetry is subjective, Qian argues that the introduction to Mao Poetry, which was created in the time closest to the period when Feng Poetry was compiled, remains to be reexamined for its scholarly significance.

Abstract:Abstract Contra the consensus view of the Shi jing 詩經 (Classic of Odes) and Chu ci 楚辭 (Verses of Chu) as the products of two distinct literary cultures, one northern and one southern, this article argues on the basis of intertextual analysis that the Chu ci developed in direct response to the Shi jing . The foremost poem in the anthology, the “Li sao” 離騷 (Parting's Sorrow) emerges as a metadiscursive journey through various Shi jing archetypes, the goal of which is to authorize its hero to say farewell to his ruler and homeland—a possibility denied by Shi jing poetics. A final section explores the relationship between the oppositional poetics of the “Li sao” and the rest of the Chu ci . The article concludes with some reflections on the limitations of the north–south model for historians of early Chinese literature.

Abstract:Critics of all ages have believed that the Fu in Sheng Gao Neng Fu(One can compose Fu when reaching heights) and Sou Fu(Blind Fu) in The Mao School on the Study of The Book of Songs both refers to the composition of poetry.This article,by examining the literary development from the oral creation to written composition in the pre-Qin era,argues that the Fu in the above two quotations very probably refers to the rhymed prose of oral creation of the early period.It could be inferred therefrom that the genre of Fu had already existed before Xun and Song.

Abstract:The Book of Songs is an important part of Chinese traditional culture and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. This article is based on Turi’s theory of translation norms, and takes the English translation of The Book of Songs · Jing Jing by Richard Jacob and Xu Yuanchong as the research object. Comparative studies are made on the historical nature of understanding, the normativeness of translation, and the application of the fusion of horizons in the two versions of the Book of Songs. Incorporating history into translation brings the translation closer to the roots of history. The comparative research method proposed in this article can be widely used in various ancient literature studies, and has important theoretical and application values.

Abstract:Li Qingzhao (1084-ca. 1155?) is widely lauded as the most celebrated and talented woman poet in the history of classical Chinese literature. This study, with the theoretical guidance of Dr. Wang Feng’s “Harmony-Guided Three-Level Poetry Translation Criteria”, focuses on a comparative analysis of the collected renditions of the ci-poem “to the tune of Tipsy in Flower Shade” at the macro, middle and micro levels, to further promote the translation and communication of classical Chinese literature. This study aims to exert far-reaching influences on the process of Chinese literature going global, which has unprecedented contemporary significance.

Abstract:Feng Zhi (1905-93) was not only one of the founders of German Studies in China, but he also was an important scholar of the Tang dynasty poet, Du Fu (712-70). The present essay attempts to analyze Feng Zhi's "coming of age" by using Du Fu as a case study for the dialogue between the modern and Western-educated intellectuals on the one hand, and the twentieth-century political and nativist movements of China on the other. Feng's admiration for Du Fu prompted him to write a biography for this precursor poet, this "Sage in Poetry" (shisheng), which was not only a record of his life, but also a mirror that reflects Feng's own spiritual transformation from a student of Western romanticism, individualism, and existentialism, to, in his own words, a "mouthpiece of the people."

Abstract:Poetics was compiled by Confucius'disciples who have attended his lectures on Poetry. Most prob ably it should be Zi Xia according to relative reference books. Dwelling upon th is problem now, one can discern that though there is ideological inheritance amo ng Poetics, Preface to Poetry, and Mao Zhuan , there is considerable difference, especially regarding to Guan Ju and other six articles. Instead of being written by Zi Xia himself,Preface to Poetry is the product of the systematic research on Poetry starting from Zi Xia. Nevertheless, both Preface to Poetry and Mao Zhuan represent similarities with Poetics, which is of great importance for us to recognize the inh eritance of Poetics study.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to comparatively study the differences and commonalities between Chinese literature and Western literature. First of all, the characteristics of the two are compared from three aspects, namely, presentation methods, thematic contents and literary forms. Chinese literature focuses on mood, ambiguity, and emphasizes the natural flow of emotions; while Western literature attaches importance to structure, logic, and pursues innovation in form. In terms of thematic content, Chinese literature tends to express personal emotions and expresses the harmony between human beings and nature and society; while Western literature focuses on the conflict between individuals and society and emphasizes freedom, equality and human rights. In terms of literary forms, Chinese literature coexists in various forms such as poetry, prose and novels, while Western literature takes novels, dramas and poems as its main forms. Secondly, this study explores the reasons for the differences between the two in terms of cultural background, writers' creative concepts and readers' acceptance. Chinese literature is deeply influenced by traditional cultural ideas such as Confucianism and Taoism, emphasizing moral education and philosophy of life; while Western literature is influenced by ancient Greek and Roman myths as well as religious beliefs such as Christianity, focusing on the inner world of man and exploring human nature. In terms of writers' creative concepts, Chinese writers tend to focus on social harmony from the perspective of traditional morality and ethics, while Western writers advocate the liberation of individuality and the pursuit of the realization of personal values. In terms of readers' acceptance, Chinese literature focuses on aesthetic experience and emotional resonance, while Western literature pays more attention to logical reasoning and thinking. The comparative study of Chinese literature and Western literature can help us better understand the diversity of world literature and enrich our concepts of literary aesthetics and creation. At the same time, by learning from the excellent achievements of Western literature, we can promote the innovation and development of Chinese literature.
An Exposition of Zhu Xi's“Preface to Annotations toThe Book of Songs”

Abstract:Zhu Xi( 1130- 1200) had written three prefaces to The Book of Songs. His "Preface to Annotations to The Book of Songs"was not intended for the book it prefaced but for the aborted earlier book Collected Interpretations of The Book of Songs.This preface was not the later"Prefaces to The Book of Songs,"which were generally referred to as The Bigger Preface and The Smaller Preface. The present paper takes"Preface to Annotations"as a transitional critical text in Zhu Xi's thought and tries to explore the dialogic relationship between this preface and the Bigger and Smaller Prefaces. The paper argues that three aspects can be seen in internal change in Zhu Xi's thought concerning the criticism of The Book of Songs. First,the interpretive perspective of human nature( instinct and desire) was placed before the perspectives of social mores and moral teaching maintained by Han dynasty Confucian scholars. Secondly,the perspective of Neo- Confucianism is taking over the perspective of Confucian classic hermeneutics. Finally,Zhu Xi highlighted the tradition of interpreting poetry with poetry and tasting the literariness of the text,and therefore empowered the reader with the interpretative right. The paper claims that the above mentioned changes of critical perspective found in Zhu Xi's"Preface to Annotations to The Book of Songs"imply a shift from political interpretation to literary interpretation in the hermeneutics of The Book of Songs.

Abstract:The concepts of China and ″Sifang(all sides)″ during the age of The Book of Songs represent geopolitical thought of the Zhou Dynasty that China was located at the center of the world.This conceptualization is also reflected in The Book of Songs.The hypothesis that the ″Folk Songs of State Chen″ is the most representative branch amongst the Southern China's folk songs can be proved by recognizing the territory of Southern China during the age of The Book of Songs.The interpretations concerning Zhounan and Shaonan in Maozhuan and Zhengjian inherited and extended the political memory of Emperor Wen of the Zhou Dynasty's moral governance,reflecting the thought which regards the Northern China as the cultural center.Maozhuan and Zhenjian's explanations of the ″Folk Songs of State Chu″ neglected in The Book of Songs as well as the ignorance of the ″Folk Songs of State Chen″,show that Maozhuan and Zhenjian's ideas deviated from the recognition of the Southern China territory during the age of The Book of Songs.This also represents the geopolitical thought of the distinction between Chinese and the uncivilized ethics.

Abstract:Li Qingzhao (李清照), born in Jinan (濟南), Shandong Province, China, in 1084, in the time of the Song dynasty (960–1276 CE), is one of China's most popular poets, celebrated mostly for her ci-(詞) form poetry, or song lyrics.11 In recent decades, Li has received more serious critical attention from Chinese Literature scholars—namely, Zheng Chengduo (鄭振鐸), Kang Zheng (康震), Lin Zeng Wen (林增文), Jiang Han Chun, Jiang Han Sen (姜漢椿, 姜漢森), and, foremost, Xu Beiwen (徐北文).22 As those scholars amply point out, Li's achievements with the ci-form tradition match or outdo the efforts of her contemporaries. Critical interest in the formal qualities of Li's ci-form poetry inclusive of issues of translation and other formal and textual concerns also has expanded to include attention to the role that gender plays in Li's poetry. Scholars persuasively argue that Li's ci-form poems constitute and forward powerful critical connections between language and gender, and Li's work is a salient representative of women's writing (Sun 110–29). What needs to be added to the existing scholarship are readings that focus on the ecofeminist content of Li's poetry. I offer and defend such a reading here, supporting that reading with references to ecofeminist theory as well as scholarly studies of Li and Chinese literature.33 Ecofeminism offers highly relevant and useful theoretical tools by which to approach the poetry of Li and her contemporaries; ecofeminism emphasizes the materially located affective ties between human and nonhuman beings; the vulnerability, finitude, and capacity for suffering that nonhuman beings share with human beings; the need for an ethic of care in humans' relationships with nonhuman beings; and the shared history of women and nature with respect to the secondary status that both have been given in both conceptual and material terms. Most importantly, ecofeminist attention to Li's poetry will push in new, ethical, directions the arguments that scholars have made about the influence of Daoism on Li; Li's reputation for being one of the most sophisticated wielders of ci-form poetry (and the genre of chamber romance)44; and how Li's poetry was shaped by great personal loss and political exile.55

Abstract:Kuo Chih-Yuan was a famous composer in China Taiwan. He was the pioneer of modern music in China Taiwan and was highly recognized in the music industry. His had written a number of art songs, Hokkien songs, children’s songs, and folk songs adapted with vocal works, as well as instrumental works, including piano music, embodying them with strong local characteristics of orchestral suites, operas, musicals, and choral. From the perspective of “Liangzhou Ci,” a creative ancient poetry and art song, this paper expounds Kuo Chih-Yuan’s creative rules and aesthetic principles by sorting out and collecting relevant materials, analyzing the tonality of his works, and making a comparative study of the changes in intervals, rhythm, and musical structure. This paper further refines the characteristics of ancient poetry and art songs in terms of singing, as well as the humanistic characteristics and historical implications that need to be highlighted when interpreting ancient poetry and art songs, in hope to provide useful reference for vocal music teaching and performance.

Abstract:The tradition of and category of ci in literary history are accepted as common view,of which the classics-establishing by intension and the consequent maze are rarely mentioned,as well as the two related traditions of and sao in the realm are not systematically examined or clearly presented for they belong to common critical categories,while in the critical history of study,the tradition originated from shi employed in Han as well as its critical view and the sao tradition emerged from fu adopted in the imperial examination and its idea of principle-inheriting and origin-establishing form a theoretical change from to sao fu,which is of value in studying the tradition of critical history of and significance in reexamining the changes in literary history.
