Abstract:A bench-scale coagulation/microfiltration system was applied to treat the membrane backwash water(MBW)from a pilot-scale coagulation/ultrafiltration system. The MBW and treated water were filtered by ultrafiltration membranes with different molecular weight cut-off to analyze the distribution of organic matters with various molecular weights. The relations of the removal rates of organic matters in MBW with the dosage of FeCl3 and the treatment processes(coagulation/microfiltration and coagulation/PAC adsorption/microfiltration)were investigated by changing the dosage of FeCl3 and adding powdered activated carbon. The results show that the molecular weight of DOC in MBW is mainly more than 30 ku and less than 1 ku,while that of THMFP and UV254 is mainly less than 1 ku.The coagulation is effective to remove the organic matters with molecular weight of more than 30 ku,while PAC is effective to remove the organic matters with molecular weight of less than 1 ku.With the increase of coagulant dosage, the removal rates of DOC,UV254 and THMFP are improved.
