Abstract:The continuity of the viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation with respect to the parameter is studied. In the sense of a constant difference, the fact is proved that the viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is continuous at c0 with respect to the parameter if the Mather set Mc0 is uniquely ergodic.

Abstract:Let M be a closed and smooth manifold and H-epsilon : T* M -> R-1 be a family of Tonelli Hamiltonians for epsilon >= 0 small. For each phi is an element of C(M, R-1), T-t(epsilon)phi(x) is the unique viscosity solution of the Cauchy problem{d(t)w + H-epsilon(x, d(x)w) = 0, in M x (0, +infinity),w vertical bar(t=0) = phi, on M,where T-t(epsilon) is the Lax-Oleinik operator associated with H-epsilon. A result of Fathi asserts that the uniform limit, for t -> +infinity, of T-t(epsilon)phi + c(epsilon)t exists and the limit (phi) over bar (epsilon) is a viscosity solution of the stationary Hamilton-Jacobi equationH-epsilon (x, d(x)u) = c(epsilon),where c(epsilon) is the unique k for which the equation H-epsilon (x, d(x)u) = k admits viscosity solutions. In the present paper we discuss the continuous dependence of the viscosity solution (phi) over bar (epsilon) with respect to the parameter epsilon.

Abstract:Assume H = H(x, p, u) with (x, p) is an element of T*M and u is an element of S, is smooth and satisfies Tonelli conditions in p, Lipschitz continuity condition in u, where M is a compact connected smooth manifold without boundary. We find a compact interval C such that equationH(x, partial differential xu(x), u(x)) = chas solutions if and only if c is an element of C. We also study the long-time behavior of the unique viscosity solution uc of partial differential tu(x, t) + H(x, partial differential xu(x, t), u(x, t)) = c, u(x, 0) = phi(x) is an element of C(M, R).If c is an element of C, uc is bounded by a constant independent of c and Lipschitz with respect to the argument x with a Lipschitz constant independent of c and phi. If c is an element of/ C, then the long-time average of uc can be characterized by a function c 7 -> rho(c) which admits a modulus of continuity. We obtain these results by analyzing properties of a kind of one-parameter semigroups of operators. All the aforementioned results show the fundamental difference between Hamilton Jacobi equations with Hamiltonians H(x, p, u) and over line H(x, p).

Abstract:This article is devoted to the study of fully nonlinear stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equations for the optimal stochastic control problem of ordinary differential equations with random coefficients. Under the standard Lipschitz continuity assumptions on the coefficients, the value function is proved to be the unique viscosity solution of the associated stochastic HJ equation.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to present some results about viscosity subsolutions of the contact Hamiltonian-Jacobi equations on connected, closed manifold M H(x,∂_x u,u)= 0, x∈ M. Based on implicit variational principles introduced in [12,14], we focus on the monotonicity of the solution semigroups on viscosity subsolutions and the positive invariance of the epigraph for viscosity subsolutions. Besides, we show a similar consequence for strict viscosity subsolutions on M.

Abstract:Abstract We study the Hamilton–Jacobi equations in M and in where the Hamiltonian depends Lipschitz continuously on the variable u. In the framework of the semicontinuous viscosity solutions due to Barron–Jensen, we establish the comparison principle, existence theorem, and representation formula as value functions for extended real-valued, lower semicontinuous solutions for the Cauchy problem. We also establish some results on the long-time behavior of solutions for the Cauchy problem and classification of solutions for the stationary problem.

Abstract:This paper deals with: (1) the generalized additive eigenvalue problem \[ H(x,u(x),Du(x))=c, \quad x\in M, \] where the unknown is a pair $(c,u)$ of a constant $c \in \mathbb{R}$ and a function $u$ on $M$ for which $u$ is a backward weak KAM solution (or equivalently, viscosity solution) of the above equation; (2) the long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the Cauchy problem for \[ w_{t}(x,t)+H(x, w(x,t), Dw(x,t))=c,\quad (x,t)\in M\times(0,+\infty). \] We assume $H=H(x,u,p)$ satisfies Tonelli conditions in the argument $p\in T^*_xM$ and the uniform Lipschitz condition in the argument $u\in\mathbb{R}$. First, we provide three necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of backward weak KAM solutions of the stationary equation for a given $c\in \mathbb{R}$. Second, we analyse the structure of the set $\mathfrak{C}$ of all real numbers $c$'s for which the stationary equation admits backward weak KAM solutions. Third, the long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the Cauchy problem for the evolutionary equation is studied. Implicit Lax-Oleinik semigroups $\{T^\pm_t\}_{t\geqslant 0}$ play an essential role in this paper. The most important novelty in this work is to reveal several new aspects of existence and long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the above equations without monotonicity assumptions $\frac{\partial H}{\partial u}\geqslant 0$ (or, $\frac{\partial H}{\partial u}\leqslant 0$): the propeties of the operator $T^+_t\circ T^-_t$ is used to provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of viscosity solutions of the stationary equation; three constants are introduced to analyse the structure of $\mathfrak{C}$; the information of $w$ in finite time partly determines the long-time behavior of $w$.

Abstract: Assume $M$ is a closed, connected and smooth Riemannian manifold. We consider the evolutionary Hamilton-Jacobi equation \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} &\partial_t u(x,t)+H(x,u(x,t),\partial_xu(x,t))=0,\quad (x,t)\in M\times(0,+\infty), \\ &u(x,0)=\varphi(x), \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $\varphi\in C(M)$ and the stationary one \begin{equation*} H(x,u(x),\partial_x u(x))=0, \end{equation*} where $H(x,u,p)$ is continuous, convex and coercive in $p$, uniformly Lipschitz in $u$. By introducing a solution semigroup, we provide a representation formula of the viscosity solution of the evolutionary equation. As its applications, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the viscosity solutions of the stationary equations. Moreover, we prove a new comparison theorem depending on the neighborhood of the projected Aubry set essentially, which is different from the one for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation independent of $u$.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to solving a class of second order Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations in the Wasserstein space, associated with mean field control problems involving common noise. The well-posedness of viscosity solutions to the HJB equation under a new notion is established under general assumptions on the coefficients. Our approach adopts the smooth metric developed by Bayraktar, Ekren, and Zhang [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. (2023)] as our gauge function for the purpose of smooth variational principle used in the proof of comparison theorem. Further estimates and regularity of the metric, including a novel second order derivative estimate with respect to the measure variable, are derived in order to ensure the uniqueness and existence.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is twofold. In the setting of metric measure spaces, we derive uniform gradient and Laplacian contraction estimates along solutions of the viscous approximation of the Hamilton–Jacobi equation. We use these estimates to prove that, as the viscosity tends to zero, solutions of this equation converge to the evolution driven by the Hopf–Lax formula, in accordance with the smooth case.

Abstract:Based on a fixed point argument, we give a dynamical representation of the viscosity solution to Cauchy problem of certain weakly coupled systems of Hamilton-Jacobi equations with continuous initial datum. Using this formula, we obtain some regularity results related to the viscosity solution, including a partial extension of Lions' regularizing effect [17] to the case of weakly coupled systems.

Abstract:We study the Cauchy problem for time-periodic Hamilton-Jacobi equations with Tonelli Hamiltonians. It is well known that the Cauchy problem admits a unique bounded viscosity solution. We provide a more precise description of the boundedness of the viscosity solution. We introduce the notion of asymptotic bounds of the viscosity solution of the Cauchy problem. An asymptotic bound is a 1-periodic viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We show how to obtain the optimal asymptotic bounds, i.e., minimal asymptotic upper bound and maximal asymptotic lower bound. Our method relies upon Mather theory and weak KAM theory on Lagrangian dynamics.

Let $$u_\varepsilon ^-:M\rightarrow \mathbb {R}$$ be the viscosity solution of the parametrized contact Hamilton–Jacobi equation $$\begin{aligned} H(x,d_x u_\varepsilon ^-(x),\varepsilon u_\varepsilon ^-(x))=c(H), \end{aligned}$$ with c(H) being the Mañé Critical Value. Abstract:Consider the Cauchy problem of a time-periodic Hamilton-Jacobi equation on a closed manifold, where the Hamiltonian satisfies the condition: The Aubry set of the corresponding Hamiltonian system consists of one hyperbolic 1-periodic orbit. It is proved that the unique viscosity solution of Cauchy problem converges exponentially fast to a 1-periodic viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation as the time tends to infinity.

Abstract:We prove comparison principle for viscosity solutions of a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation in a strong coupling regime considering a stationary and a time-dependent version of the equation. We consider a Hamiltonian that has a representation as the supremum of a difference of two functions: an internal Hamiltonian depending on a control variable and a function interpreted as a cost of applying the controls. Our major innovation lies in the use of a cost function that can be discontinuous, unbounded and depending on momenta, enabling us to address previously unexplored scenarios such as cases arising from the theory of large deviations and homogenisation. For completeness, we also state the existence of viscosity solutions and we verify the assumptions for an example arising from biochemistry.

Abstract:We prove the existence of viscosity solutions to complex Hessian equations on a compact Hermitian manifold that satisfy a determinant domination condition. This viscosity solution is shown to be unique when the right hand is strictly monotone increasing in terms of the solution. When the right hand side does not depend on the solution, we reduces it to the strict monotonicity of the solvability constant.

Abstract:We consider the Hamilton-Jacobi equation \[{H}(x,Du)+\lambda(x)u=c,\quad x\in M, \] where $M$ is a connected, closed and smooth Riemannian manifold. The functions ${H}(x,p)$ and $\lambda(x)$ are continuous. ${H}(x,p)$ is convex, coercive with respect to $p$, and $\lambda(x)$ changes the signs. The first breakthrough to this model was achieved by Jin-Yan-Zhao \cite{JYZ} under the Tonelli conditions. In this paper, we consider more detailed structure of the viscosity solution set and large time behavior of the viscosity solution on the Cauchy problem.
