Abstract:Let f be a holomorphic map of C-n tangent to the identity, with an absolutely isolated singularity. We show that there exists a finite blow-up sequence which reduces f to a map with only simple singularities.

Local Complex Singularity Exponents for Isolated Singularities

Abstract:In this thesis, I studied the stability of local complex singularity exponents (lcse) for holomorphic functions whose zero sets have only isolated singularities. For a given holomorphic function f defined on a neighborhood of the origin in Cn , the lcse c0(f) is defined as the supremum of all positive real number λ for which 1/| f|2λ is integrable on some neighborhood of the origin. It has been conjectured that c0( f) should not decrease if f is deformed small enough. Using J. Mather and S. S. T. Yau's result on the classification of isolated hypersurface singularities, together with a well known result on the stability of c0(f) when f is deformed in a finite dimension base space, I proved that if the zero set of f has only isolated singularity at the origin, then c0(g) ≥ c0( f) for g close enough to f with respect to the C0 norm over a neighborhood of the origin, thus gave a partial solution to the conjecture. Using the stability results, I also computed the holomorphic invariant α( M) for some special Fano manifold M.

Abstract:Let f be a transcendental meromorphic function and let LI be a wandering domain of f. Under some conditions, we prove that a finite limit function of {f(n)} on U is in the derived set of the forward orbit of the set sing (f(-1)) of singularities of the inverse function of f. The existence of {n(k)} such that f(nk)\u tends to infinity is also considered when f is entire. If sing(f(-1)) is bounded, however, we show that {f(n)(z)}(n=0)(infinity) in F(f) does not tend to infinity.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.

Abstract:Let f(z) be a transcendental meromorphic function. The paper investigates, using the hyperbolic metric, the relation between the forward orbit P(f) of singularities of f(-1) and limit functions of iterations of f in its Fatou components. It is mainly proved, among other things, that for a wandering domain U, all the limit functions of {f(n)\(U)} lie in the derived set of P(f) and that if f(np)\ v --> q (n --> +infinity) for a Fatou component V, then either q is in the derived set of S-p(f) or f(p)(q) = q. As applications of main theorems, some sufficient conditions of the non-existence of wandering domains and Baker domains are given.

Abstract:This is the first of a series of papers where we relate tangent cones ofHermitian-Yang-Mills connections at an isolated singularity to the complexalgebraic geometry of the underlying reflexive sheaf, when the sheaf is locallymodelled on the pull-back of a holomorphic vector bundle from the projectivespace. In this paper we shall impose an extra assumption that the graded sheafdetermined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtrations of the vector bundleis reflexive. In general we conjecture that the tangent cone is uniquelydetermined by the double dual of the associated graded object of aHarder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of an algebraic tangent cone, which is acertain torsion-free sheaf on the projective space. In this paper we also provethis conjecture when there is an algebraic tangent cone which is locally freeand stable.

Abstract:A contact singularity is a normal singularity $(V,0)$ together with a holomorphic contact form $\eta$ on $V\backslash$ Sing $V$ in a neighbourhood of 0, i.e. $\eta\wedge (d\eta)^r$ has no zero, where dim $V=2r+1$. The main result of this paper is that there are no isolated contact singularities.

Abstract:We establish uniqueness and regularity results for tangent cones (at a point or at infinity) with isolated singularities arising from a given immersed stable minimal hypersurface with suitably small (non-immersed) singular set. In particular, our results allow the tangent cone to occur with any integer multiplicity.

Abstract:In this paper we make a further discussion of a relationship between the number of fixed-points and distribution of singular values along the round annuli centered at the origin of a transcendental meromorphic function. To attain our purpose we first establish a fundamental inequality for the modulus of derivative of a holomorphic covering mapping whose image is an annulus by virtue of the hyperbolic metric. The inequality is of independent significance. We make a simple survey on some domain constants for hyperbolic domains.

Abstract:Let $\xi$ be a real analytic vector field with an elementary isolated singularity at $0\in \mathbb{R}^3$ and eigenvalues $\pm bi,c$ with $b,c\in \mathbb{R}$ and $b\neq 0$. We prove that all cycles of $\xi$ in a sufficiently small neighborhood of $0$, if they exist, are contained in a finite number of subanalytic invariant surfaces entirely composed by a continuum of cycles. In particular, we solve Dulac's problem, i.e. finiteness of limit cycles, for such vector fields.

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. Abstract:In this paper, we study the local behavior of nonnegative solutions of fractional semilinear equations (−∆)u = u with an isolated singularity, where σ ∈ (0, 1) and n n−2σ < p < n+2σ n−2σ . We first use blow up method and a Liouville type theorem to derive an upper bound. Then we establish a monotonicity formula and a sufficient condition for removable singularity to give a classification of the isolated singularities. Abstract:We consider links of complex isolated hypersurface singularities in $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$ and study differentiable maps defined by restricting holomorphic functions to the links. We give an explicit example in which such a restriction gives a fold map into the plane $\mathbb{C} = \mathbb{R}^2$ whose singular value set consists of concentric circles.

Abstract:We characterize diffeomorphisms that are C-1 away from homoclinic tangencies by using dominated splittings on the C-1 preperiodic sets. More precisely, we prove that a diffeomorphism f cannot be C-1 approximated by systems with homoclinic tangencies if and only if for all 1 less than or equal to i less than or equal to d(-1), the C-1 i-preperiodic set P-*(i) (f) of f has i-dominated splitting.

Abstract:This paper is the second part of our study on the Toda equations and the cyclic Higgs bundles associated to $r$-differentials over non-compact Riemann surfaces. We classify all the solutions up to boundedness around the isolated singularity of an $r$-differential under the assumption that the $r$-differential is meromorphic or has some type of essential singularity. As a result, for example, we classify all the solutions on ${\mathbb C}$ if the $r$-differential is a finite sum of the exponential of polynomials.

Abstract:This chapter is devoted to discussing singular values of a transcendental meromorphic function. The singular value is that in any neighborhood of which the inverse of the function contains a multiple-valued branch. A value is a singular value if and only if it is an asymptotic value or a critical value. We show the construction of the parabolic simply connected Riemann surface associated with a fixed meromorphic function, and point out that every boundary point of the Riemann surface is an asymptotic value of the function. Next we consider dense properties of singularities of the inverse of a meromorphic function including relationships among singular values and between the number of direct singularities and the growth order. We then exhibit Eremenko's construction of a meromorphic function with every value on the extended complex plane as its asymptotic value. Finally, we discuss the existence of (repelling) fixed-points of a meromorphic function of finite type, that is, the set of its singular values is bounded, and consider the case when the singular values do not distribute along a sequence of annuli.

Abstract:We study the topology of analytic families of $n$-dimensional complex hypersurfaces having an isolated singularity at the origin. We prove that such a family is $\mu$-constant if and only if it admits an uniform Milnor radius, which happens if and only if it has constant embedded topological type. In particular, this solves the $\mu$-constant problem, formulated by D.T. Lê and C.P. Ramanujam in 1976.

Abstract:Let V be a hypersurface with an isolated singularity at the origin in ℂ n +1 . It is a natural question to ask when V is defined by weighted homogeneous polynomial or homogeneous polynomial up to biholomorphic change of coordinates. In 1971, a beautiful theorem of Saito gives a necessary and sufficient condition for V to be defined by a weighted homogeneous polynomial. For a two-dimensional isolated hypersurface signularity V , Xu and Yau found a coordinate free characterization for V to be defined by a homogeneous polynomial. Recently Lin and Yau gave necessary and sufficient conditions for a 3-dimensional isolated hypersurface singularity with geometric genus bigger than zero to be defined by a homogeneous polynomial. The purpose of this paper is to prove that Lin-Yau’s theorem remains true for singularities with geometric genus equal to zero.
