Abstract:We analyzed the regional nature of China's coal mine water disasters based on three aspects: the main water source, water-conducting passages, and threat level of water hazards. The development of water hazard control technology in China's coal mines, including exploration and assessment of hydrogeological conditions, water inrush mechanisms, and predictive technology were all reviewed. We then focused our discussion on the calculation theory and methods behind mine inflow prediction, methods of dewatering and depressurizing, and technology for mining under water pressure and water-blocking grouting. Finally, we present the evolving trend of coal mine water disaster prevention and control technology, which is characterized by accuracy, transparency, environmental considerations, informatization, and intelligent technology.

Abstract:Our mines are underground mining, poor condition. Gas explosion, dust explosion, coal and gas outburst, fires and other accidents have occurred in which gas explosion was the most common, is one of the biggest causes of death and property damage. Accident statistics from related departments, gas explosions have accounted for seven in the coal accidents in which ten or more people was killed, it was known as the "king of mine disasters". Therefore, the analysis gas explosion causes and takes appropriate countermeasures is especially important.

Abstract:Coal is the primary source of energy in China’s energy structure system. With the large-scale mining of mineral resources, a large amount of mine water will be produced in the process of development, construction, and production, which will pollute and damage the ecological environment of mine water. At present, China vigorously advocates coal revolution, implements low-carbon economy, and carries out clean production of energy development and utilization. Green mining, precision mining, and other strategic ideas have been applied to mine development to guide production practice. This paper does an in-depth analysis of the physical, chemical, biological, and environmental characteristics of mine water, puts forward the basic classification of mine water, and points out the characteristics of environmental hazards of mine water. Aiming at different types of mine water, such as mine wastewater, drainage water, goaf water, mine water with suspended solids, high salinity mine water, acid mine water, and mine water with special pollution, the paper puts forward the mine water treatment and resource utilization technology with different characteristics and strong pertinence. On this basis, the comprehensive treatment and development direction of mine water in the future are prospected.

Abstract:With the continuous westward shift of China's coal production center, the western mining areas will play an increasingly important role in ensuring national energy security. It is urgent to extract coal economically and efficiently and realize scientific mining under the premise of ensuring the safe and environmental capacity. This paper systematically summarizes the research progress of coal seam separation water disaster at home and abroad, and elaborates the problem of coal seam separation water disaster from four aspects: formation mechanism of coal seam separation water, disaster-causing mechanism, prediction and early warning of water disaster and key prevention and control technologies. This paper summarizes the research on mining overlying strata separation and the formation mechanism of overlying strata separation water, and summarizes the formation of coal seam overlying strata separation water into three basic conditions: water separation, the existence of recharge water around the separation bed, and the separation space lasting long enough. However, the prevention and control of coal mine water disaster under complex geological conditions is an important problem restricting coal mine safety at present. The water damage prediction of overlying strata separation is summarized from three aspects: prediction of the location of available water separation, prediction of the periodicity of water inrush and prediction of the amount of water inrush, according to the development characteristics of bed separation. In this paper, the water damage prediction of overlying strata separation is summarized from three aspects: prediction of the location of available water separation, prediction of the periodicity of water inrush and prediction of the amount of water inrush. According to the development characteristics of bed-separation and the location of bed-separation water, the main prevention and control methods of bed-separation water damage, such as diversion hole, advance drain hole and ground direct pump hole, are proposed.

Abstract:To understand the development status and frontier trends in the prevention and control of coal mine water hazards, a dataset of 962 articles indexed in Web of Science was used. Visualization maps were created using CiteSpace software to conduct statistical analyses on the publication volume, journal distribution, researchers, research institutions, keywords, and burst terms in the field of coal mine water hazard prevention and control in China from 2000 to 2023. The study reveals that the number of publications related to the prevention and control of coal mine water hazards in China has gone through rapid growth periods as well as stable fluctuations. The literature cooperation network in the field of coal mine water hazard prevention and control consists of two main collaboration groups and a series of independent authors, with the core research strength concentrated in institutions such as China University of Mining and Technology, Shandong University of Science and Technology, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), and Xi'an Research Institute of China Coal Technology and Engineering Group. Keywords such as "Coal mine water hazards," "Water inrush," "numerical simulation," "aquifer," and "risk assessment" collectively form larger clusters, primarily revolving around three main research directions: "water source," "water inflow pathways," and "water inflow intensity." In-depth exploration of the mechanisms of water inrush in coal mines, the revelation of water-conducting fracture evolution patterns, understanding underground water seepage characteristics, and hydraulic characteristics, along with the extensive use of new technologies like artificial intelligence and big data, will be the future hotspots in research.

Abstract:The research on mine fire control has confirmed that the probability of CSC (Coal Spontaneous Combustion) after mine water treatment is higher than raw coal (RC). However, the current research on the effect of mine water on CSC is sketchy, which is not close to real water environment of the mine, and there is a lack of in-depth and systematic discussion on the compound effect of the characteristic components of mine water on the process of CSC. According to the actual mine environment, this paper prepared samples soaked by different types of mine water under different conditions, then the compound effect of mine water on CSC is studied by means of thermogravimetric, infrared and gas analysis. The results show that the characteristic temperature point T1 of coal samples after mine water treatment increases significantly, with a maximum increase of 11 °C, while T2-T4 decreases to different degrees, with a maximum decrease of 13 °C. The maximum apparent activation energy decreased by 32 %, which decreased by 40.6KJ/mol. The release of CO and CO2 is 1–2 times that of raw coal. The content of organic functional groups is 1.1–1.8 times higher than that of raw coal. The changes of these parameters are enhanced with the increase of acidity of mine water, which indicates that mine water can promote the spontaneous combustion activity of coal. The promoting effect mainly comes from the swelling effect of water, and the inhibiting effect is mainly related to the inorganic salts in mine water, but the inorganic salts contained in the mine water are not enough to reach the concentration that can inhibit CSC, so the overall performance of mine water is to promote the CSC. This study is conducive to understanding the influence mechanism of actual mine water environment on CSC, and provides a theoretical support for control of CSC and comprehensive utilization of mine water.

Abstract:Water inrush disasters caused by confined aquifers under high pressure below the mine floor are a major problem in China, restricting the safe and efficient mining of deep coal seams. We have classified the stress disturbance modes acting on the floor area in such mines into two types based on the water yield changes of a thick aquifuge floor in a deep longwall mine and the underground pressure behavior of deep longwall faces during water inrush events, and they are the dynamic load of the main roof instability from the far field of the longwall face and the static load of the abutment pressure from the near field, respectively. The water inrush modes include mining-induced cracks indirectly connected with the Ordovician limestone aquifer and through-going faults directly connected with the same aquifer. In order to control water inrush from thick aquifuge floor, grout was used to block off the cracks in the strata just above the Ordovician limestone on the site; decreasing the mining width also decreased the stress disturbance intensity caused by the dynamic and static loads; while presplitting the roof relieved the underground pressure and effectively weakened the dynamic load; and the confined water was drained to lower the water pressure and cut off the source of water flowing into the longwall face. Finally, the combined effectiveness of these control technologies was verified by micro-seismic monitoring, and further water inrush disasters were prevented through the thick aquifuge floor of a deep longwall mine in the Xing-dong coal mine in north China.

Abstract:To solve water disasters of coal seam bottom in the 8th coal mine, with the analysis on the bottom aquifer characteristics, the water inrush coefficient method was applied to evaluate the dangers of the aquifer floor and to the dangers division of water inrush. In combination with the karst fracture development conditions of the aquifer, we designed the water prevention and control plan of the limestone water under the seam floor. All the schemes set the basis for the mine safety production.

Abstract:Evaluation of water inrush risk is becoming increasingly important as coal mining activities reach greater depths. Hazard identification, as well as hazard analysis, is the first step in accident prevention. However, there have not been any studies that focus on the hazard analysis system for mine water inrush. In this paper, hazard identification and its definitions are briefly summarized and a comprehensive review of methods for hazard identification and classification are conducted. To illustrate the hazard of coal mine water inrush, data on coal mine accidents (since 2001) are collected and hundreds water inrush accidents were analyzed in depth. Empirical, statistical analysis and case study method were used to conduct the research. By collecting a large number of mine water inrush cases, hazard identification and risk control measures for coal mine water inrush accidents were conducted. Hazard identification method based on fault tree analysis, as well as a method based on management oversight and risk tree (MORT) and energy release theory were put forward. The analysis results show that the historical information and experiences are critically important in hazard identification of mine water inrush. Hazard of mine water inrush is divided into dynamic root hazard and static root hazard which can be further categorized into static innate hazard and dynamic-triggered hazard. Strategies for risk control of mine water inrush are combined into three aspects: engineering controls, operation system controls, and human behavior controls. Finally, a case study of the Taoyuan coal mine was conducted to illustrate the proposed system, with limitations and future studies are discussed. The hazard identification and classification system can be broadly applied to coal mines and will improve risk control and prevention of mine water inrush accidents.

Abstract:In recent years, with the increasing level of mechanization, automation, and intelligence in mine mining, dust pollution in the working environment of coal mines has become increasingly serious. Coal mine dust prevention is an important work related to the life, health, and production safety of miners, and it is also one of the technical problems of mine safety in production. With the continuous revision and improvement of China′s Occupational Disease Prevention and Control Law, coal mining enterprises have generally strengthened the publicity, prevention, and control of occupational diseases among employees, and the control of coal mine dust has been used as a means for enterprises to improve the production environment and strengthen the occupational health of employees. Key work-based studies have shown that China’s coal mines have formed a theoretical system and technology system of dust prevention and control. In the future, China’s coal mines will start from intelligent dust prevention, achieve high-precision dust sensing-transmission-assessment and early warning, and develop a combined dust collector that integrates the functions of atomization dust removal, miniaturization, dry and wet mixing, and large air suction capacity. The combined dust collector realizes the efficient ventilation control and dust removal of the fine dust in wide-area complex spaces such as fully mechanized mining face and fully mechanized mining face. At the same time, breakthroughs have been achieved in low-permeability coal seams, such as strong hydraulic permeability-enhancing technology, intelligent dust-proof robots, and chemical dust suppression. This article introduces the basic concepts, generation, distribution, and hazards of coal mine dust and analyzes the characteristics, applicable conditions, and use effects of various dust control measures such as ventilation dust removal and wet dust removal. Moreover, this article also proposes specific prevention and control measures for related occupational diseases and discusses the development trend of dust prevention and control technology in the hope of providing guidance and reference for coal mine dust prevention and control.

Abstract:Mine water disaster has always been one of the major disasters restricting coal mine safety production. The thin bedrock area threatened by Quaternary unconsolidated aquifer may be affected by mining; on the one hand, it may cause the roof water disaster accident of working face, and on the other hand, it will cause the loss of groundwater resources. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to evaluate the risk of water inrush in thin bedrock area and analyze the feasibility of water conservation mining, which provides a reference basis for ensuring mine safety production and sustainable development of groundwater resources. In this paper, Zhuanlongwan coal mine is taken as an example to comprehensively determine the development height and shape of the water-conducting fracture zone through discrete element numerical simulation, empirical formula calculation, and field measurement, and finally determine the maximum development height of the water-conducting fracture zone. According to the analysis of lithologic structure characteristics of the study area, it is concluded that the bottom of the Quaternary system has a good plastic mudstone layer, which can effectively block water inrush of Quaternary roof. In this paper, the risk of water inrush of Quaternary loose aquifer in the thin bedrock area is evaluated by the height of safe coal pillar and the distance between coal roof and Quaternary aquifer, and it is divided into three grades: dangerous zone, relatively dangerous zone, and safe zone. The study shows that the dangerous areas and relatively dangerous areas are mainly distributed in the east and south of the first mining area, which are basically in a gully, and the other areas are safe areas. Taking measures of mining height limit, speed limit, and constant speed to push through the thin bedrock area directly can reduce the disturbance to the roof aquifer as much as possible and ensure the dual effects of water resource protection and water disaster prevention.

Abstract:With the improvement of mechanization level and the increase of mining intensity of coal mining in Shandong,the hazard of productive dust has become increasingly serious,with great threat to the mine work safety and worker health,and the prone trend of pneumoconiosis has not been effectively contained. In recent years,To effectively reduce the dust concentration in underground work environment and reduce dust hazard,with strictly implementing the relevant state management regulations on dust prevention and control,the dust prevention and control technologies have been actively explored in Shandong coal mine. The key breakthroughs have been taken from four stages "prevention,management,protection and management",and a set of feasible,reliable and effective dust comprehensive prevention and control measures were formed,especially in the aspects of short-wall water injection in coal seam,rotating spray,dust additives,efficient dust mask,strengthen management etc. The advanced dust control technologies in Shandong were analyzed and summarized in this paper,which is worth popularization and application.

Prevention of Water Inrushes in Deep Coal Mining over the Ordovician Aquifer: A Case Study in the Wutongzhuang Coal Mine of China

Abstract:Through field observation and theoretical study, we found that the Hanxing mining area has a typical ternary structure in coal mining under high water pressure of the aquifer. This ternary structure is the Ordovician limestone aquifer-aquiclude including thin limestones-coal seam. Although the aquiclude is considerably thick, there is still a great risk of water burst during mining under water pressure in the deep burial environment. Multidimensional characteristics of floor water inrush in deep mining are summarized in the paper, including water migration upwardly driven by the Ordovician confined water, the planar dispersion of the water inrush channel, the stepped increase of the water inrush intensity, the hysteretic effluent of the water inrush time and the exchange, and adsorption of the water quality. The water inrush mechanism is clarified that the permeability, dilatancy, fracturing, and ascending of the water from the Ordovician limestone aquifer form a planar and divergent flow through the transfer, storage, and transportation of thin limestone aquifers. The corresponding water inrush risk evaluation equation is also proposed. Based on the thickness of the aquiclude, the thickness of the failure zones, and the water inrush coefficient, the floor aquiclude is classified into five categories. While water inrush cannot be completely controlled by the traditional underground floor reinforcement with ultra-thick aquiclude or even zonal grouting, a comprehensive prevention and control concept of the four-dimensional floor water hazard in full time-space domain are proposed. A tridimensional prevention and control model of three-dimensional reticulated exploration, treatment, verification, and supplementation is presented. A full time domain technological quality control process of condition assessment, exploration, remediation, inspection, evaluation, monitoring, and reassurance is formed, and a water disaster prevention method with full time-space tridimensional network in deep coal mining is established. Case study in the Hanxing mining area demonstrates that the proposed methods are highly effective.

Abstract:The scarcity of water resources and environmental pollution in the coal mining areas of western China severely restricts high-quality mine development and construction there. Treating mine water as a valuable unconventional water resource for large-scale processing and efficient utilization is a crucial approach. This paper discusses the current status of mine water treatment technology in this region and provides a systematic comparison and analysis of common and emerging treatment technologies for mine water containing suspended solids, high salinity, and fluoride. The paper extensively elaborates on the fundamental principles, process routes, and technical features of these technologies, citing typical engineering cases. It also outlines the challenges that mine water treatment in the coal mining areas of western China is likely to face in the future. Based on the current status of mine water resource utilization in China, various pathways forward are clarified. Finally, this paper presents a scientific reflection and proposed solutions for mine water treatment technology and resource utilization in the coal mining areas of western China, concluding with a prospective outlook on the future development of this field.

Abstract:Monitoring and early warning systems are an efficient way to avoid and mitigate the significant loss of properties and people's lives caused by water inrush via the coal seam floor, a frequent problem in north China's deeper coal mines. This paper discusses the basic technical problems, such as the monitoring conditions, indexes and technical system of monitoring and early warning of water inrush in coal seam floor, and selection of monitoring positions. Double criteria for water inrush monitoring and early warning were established based on three factors: crack instability extension, water temperature, and water pressure. Accordingly, a new monitoring and early warning system of the water inrush in coal seam floor was developed using a fiber Bragg grating sensor. This was applied at coal face 2113 of the Chengjiao mine, Henan Province, which lowered the water inrush probability, and so no early warning was necessary. The rationality and effectiveness of this technique were thus verified.

Abstract:Abstract Mine water is a valuable unconventional water resource. According to the discharge of mine water and the factors of geographical location, climate, geological structure, mining depth and mining method, this paper analyzes the spatial distribution and treatment process of clean, containing suspended solids, high salinity, acid and special pollution mine water in China. Based on the instability of mine water inflow, the complexity of water quality in different mining areas and the difference of treatment process, the risk factors of water quantity, water quality and economy (treatment cost and irrigation benefit) of mine water farmland irrigation were analyzed. The risk prevention and control strategy of mine water farmland irrigation is put forward, which is of great significance to ensure food security.
