Abstract:The imperial examination system in history was not so dark as what it is thought of by the modern people. Therefore, it is necessary to reappraise this system because of the incomplete and non-objective understanding and knowledge of it in the past. The prejudice today comes from the negative attitude towards it prevailing in the late Qinng Dynasty. In fact, many famous scholars in history, from the Sui and Tang Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, praised this system, and many of them regarded this system as "the most fair" one. To redress this system has already become an ideological trend in the contemporary Chinese academia. A study of this system is beneficial for our better understanding of the characteristics of Chinese society and the destiny of Chinese traditional culture. At the same time, we can draw a historical lesson from it for the present examination reform.

Abstract:In order to make an objective description of educational situations in different historic periods,it is very necessary to examine the connotation and extension of the educational concepts in different periods.Besides,to reestablish Chinese education study,it is also necessary to dig out the theoretic resources of traditional education,set up a bridge of transforming traditional educational concepts to modern educational ones.In a sense,the research on the history of Chinese education concepts should avoid an outdated mode of being from concept to concept,instead,it should center around two aspects,i.e.the change of historical facts reflected in the concepts and the change in the words describing the comcepts to probe into the evoluting process and rules of concepts themselves.

Abstract:Researches of the Chinese teaching undergo a hundred years since 1920s,namely,formation(1924-1949),dwindling(1950-1976),flourishing(1977-2001), and furthering(2002-present).Each takes a distinctive feature in subject,methodolgy,quantity and quality of achievement.It is argued that the awareness needs strengthening of historical study of the Chinese teaching researches,for the sake of a healthy development.

Abstract:In the past 20 years, studies have been made on the transformation of culture, the cultivation of citizens, intellectuals, the educational institutions, the cultures of the upper and the lower classes, etc. , in modern China and many achievements have been made. Since 1979, valuable experiences have been accumulated concerning the new paradigm of the research of cultural history. Abstract:Since China’s reform and opening up in 1978, research on the reform of teacher education has experienced three stages: incubation, expansion and reflection. With great success scored in the research field, content and method, the influence of academic research on policy has also been greatly enhanced. Although great progress has been made in the research of teacher education reform, there is still a lack of study on the reform theories, especially the domestic research theories. In the future research, more efforts should be made on broadening the research perspectives, enriching the research methods and strengthening the research on reform process and cost.

Abstract:Through a literature review of both domestic and international impact of China's educational researches, a comprehensive assessment is done on issues including the relationship between indigenization and internationalization, critical use of world knowledge system, and a transition of research approaches from literature-based to multiple methods. It points out the long-standing inequality in the hegemonic status of the world knowledge system and its English academic system, a growing appearance and influence of the researches by Chinese educational scholars, and an increasing influence of domestic and overseas Chinese researchers. This leads to a further diversified body of researchers. In order to increase global impact of China's educational research, domestic educational researches need to improve the academic standards, uplift the quality and broader the international space in Chinese and English language journals on China's education. We should transform from a "learner" to a "constructor" and further to a "leader" in the global scholarship on education. By doing so, it could lay a solid foundation for China to shift from a large producer to a strong producer of educational researches.

Abstract:Western pedagogy researches have undergone changes from " experience description","philosophical reflection","scientific experimenting" to "criteria integration". Since early 20th Century when it was introduced into China, pedagogy research has gone through six phases and has such characteristics as"from ideological compliance to independence", "from copying to localization", "from pedagogy to the science of education", " from imitation to assimilation and to critical reflections". Reflecting on current pedagogy researches in China, we find that positive aspects in its research significance. Abstract:Since the 21st century, the total number of China's educational research in international publications has been continuously increased.But in the overall vision of global education research, it is still just a small field. Local scholars have become more and more involved in the international publication of China's educational research, however,they have not yet formed an academic center with important international status. There is discrepancy among the influence of different fields of China's educational research: the researches of empirical cross-disciplinary are stronger while the studies based on cultural background are weaker.In non-interdisciplinary education research, quantitative and qualitative research paradigms each count half of the number; the core topics of research focus on teacher education, learning psychology, language learning, curriculum reform, education policy research, etc; most of the analytical frameworks stem from western theories, contributing less to the international knowledge system. The understanding of Chineseheritage culture in international China's educational research is too general and abstract, lacking historical dimensions, and is easy to fall into the concept of Binary Opposition. To enhance the influence of China's educational research in international publication, it is necessary to correct the current emphasis on the number of international publications in the evaluation system, and establish a more reasonable one to guide academic research to a development mode of intensive cultivation. Local scholars urgently need to change their status of "academic processing" in international cooperation, enhance their ability to reflecting on western academic discourse and their understanding of China's local educational experience, and consolidate educational practice and cultural identity into theoretical knowledge.

Abstract:The journal articles and doctoral dissertations on the history of Chinese education over the past four decades after reform and opening-up are studied from two dimensions: the historical periods and the educational subjects. The number of journal articles has experienced a sluggish period of growth before expanding rapidly. The subjects studied in journal articles are expanding across traditionally focused fields of educational figures, thought and systems; this resulted in widespread attention regarding all kinds of educational forms and problems. The interest in theory of history of education has improved. The research paradigm is characterized by its diversity. However, there are also problems such as subpar quality, trivial and repeated themes, overemphasis on reality, and imbalance in the historical periods of the writings. Changes in the number of doctoral dissertations over the past forty years are mainly affected by the number of doctoral programs. Regarding the historical periods examined in dissertations, there exists a preference for the modern to ancient period, which is generally the same trend found in journal articles. Influenced by the general attention directed at the Gaokao reform, the number of educational systems-themed dissertations exceeds those focusing on figures and thought. The dissertations on the themes of educational figures and thought have richer subjects, which avoid the negative side of repeated themes of journal articles. In the future, we should place improvements on research quality and the heightening of academic standards as a foremost priority. We need to strike a balance between seeking truth and attaining practical use when paying attention to reality and formulating positive responses. Moreover, we should remain open to the changes in research paradigms, theory and methods.
