E-money impact analysis based on simulation approach

Abstract:The rapid growth of international interconnected information networks is stimulating strong demand for new payment methods, which could be fast and secure. Electronic money is world widely considered as new means of payment, and has been growing dramatically in both E-Commerce and M-Commerce for the last decade. However, due to the acceleration and enlargement effects, e-money could exert great impact to the country or even the international economic system in the future, and therefore should be carefully analysis and monitor. In this paper, we put the e-money into two categories: dependent and independent. The dependent e-money is simply the substitute of cash or deposit, and could not work without traditional money. The independent e-money, instead, could reproduce itself. We then give detailed discussion about current circulation modes of e-money, and analyze the potential impact from these two kinds of e-money on economy. We also propose a model-based simulation to perform quantitative analysis. In this way, we could take in-depth understanding of the development of e-money, as well as its impact to economy. © 2009 Binary Information Press March, 2009.
