Abstract:Events are an inseparable part of our daily life. In humanities and social sciences, event research involves leisure, tourism, culture, entertainment, arts, sports and other numerous disciplines. As a matter of fact,event and tourism are two closely related words:the event is not only an important driving force for the development of tourism, but it also plays an important part in the growth and marketing of most of the tourist destinations. Following this train of thought, event tourism is the connection link between tourism research and event research. Regarding the event supplier, event tourism is mainly regarded as a tourist attraction and as a catalyst for the promotion of a positive tourism image.Although the information and research methodology on this paper both stemmed from the tourism field,this research is not limited to event tourism.Therefore,setting a total of 1146 English event study articles (from 5 international renowned academic journals on event research and 3 international renowned academic journals on tourism,which articles were published between 1974 and 2016)and 541 Chinese event study articles(from 4 academic journals and 12 core journals in tourism, which articles were published between 1988 and 2016) and using bibliometric, content analysis, comparative research methods,CiteSpace,Excel and other measurements tools and statistical software to analyze data,this research was able to systematically combine the knowledge system of English and Chinese event research.First,the author constructs and compares the knowledge system framework of Chinese and English event studies. Chinese framework is constructed by event industry and tourism industry, event and event tourism types, event stakeholders, event impacts and development, event study geographical regions, and event research methods. The English framework is constructed by event and event tourism types, event stakeholders, event impacts and development, event marketing and management, event study geographical regions and event research methods. Chinese and English event studies on the knowledge system of various research fields finally aim at the diagram formed by the 3 high-frequency keywords"tourism","events"and"event tourism".Second,the author considers that the future tourism research trends,based upon the event studies,will include Chinese and English event studies history and will form a more abundant and in-depth Chinese and English event studies knowledge system. Finally, the author discusses the limitations, core ideas and conclusions of this research in detail. All the information contained on this paper stems from academic journals and focuses on keywords,but it is only a cut-in point for understanding the development of event research, and remains to be rather far from grasping the whole picture.The construction of a knowledge system framework of Chinese and English event study is based on the co-occurrence of high frequency keywords formed through a knowledge map.In conclusion,the guiding idea of this paper is rooted in the dialectic philosophical principle of"Grasping the big from the small and the small from the big". The overall paper is based upon the principle"grasping the big from the small"whereas the different specific analysis amidst the paper are rooted on the principle"grasping the small from the big".
