Application of dermoscopy image analysis in the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma

Abstract:Objective To explore the values of the diagnosis on basal cell carcinoma(BCC) by dermoscopy imaging analysis technology and its clinical applications.Method One hundred and twenty seven cases of suspicious BCC in head and face were collected,and all their skin lesions were diagnosed according to the visual diagnosis and dermoscopy image analysis.The data were assessed by statistical analysis.The diagnosis of all cases was confirmed by histopathology.Results Among the 127 cases,122 cases were diagnosed as BCC by dermoscopy,which were later confirmed by histopathology.It showed that the sensitivity of dermoscopy was 89.34% and its specificity was 95.90%.The diagnostic accordance rate reached 96.06%,i.e.32.28% higher than the accuracy of visual diagnosis.It confirmed the diagnostic indication of dermoscopy in each type of BCC,except for fibroepithelioma in the head and face.Conclusion Dermoscopy shows great sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of BCC in the head and face.The technology is of great value in reducing blind biopsy or operative resection range and in selecting appropriate therapy.Moreover,it may play an active role in promoting the rehabilitation and cosmetic results of skin lesions in the head and face.
