Abstract:The color palette of traditional dwellings is intricately shaped by the characteristics of the geographical environment and the long-standing lifestyle of residents, thus constituting a vital component of rural culture. However, the rapid development in recent years has resulted in the dilapidation of rural features, including haphazard colors employed in buildings. With the advancement of science and technology, the studies of color have transitioned from a qualitative to a quantitative approach. Through a comprehensive comparison of RGB, HSB, CMYK, and Lab color spaces, as well as an evaluation of color card comparison method, software analysis method, and instrument measurement method; this paper reveals that employing the instrument measurement method in conjunction with the Lab color space enables independent assessment free from subjective influence. This approach facilitates more objective and accurate collection of color data while ensuring seamless and lossless transmission between devices. Therefore, to safeguard and enhance the authenticity of traditional dwellings and preserve the architectural style of traditional villages, this paper focuses on investigating the color palette of traditional dwellings in the Jianxi River Basin. The CM-700d spectrophotometer is employed for color data collection, while quantitative analysis is conducted using the Lab color space to unravel the color logics in this region. The findings reveal that earth yellow (average Lab (50.35,7.40,19.63)) constitutes the main color of rammed earth walls, complemented by dark brown (average Lab (38.72,2.97,8.58)) tiled roofs and gray-brown (average Lab (41.95,4.30,12.75)) stone wall bases as accent color; additionally, gray-yellow (average Lab (49 .82,1 .93,10.98)) brick gatehouses serve as accent colors. The integration between these colors and nature is harmonious; however, the absence of distinct color layers and highlights in the traditional dwellings necessitates incorporating bright architectural decorations along with arrangements of flowering plants. This paper conducted a quantitative analysis on the color of traditional dwellings with three main objectives. Firstly, to establish a comprehensive color database that can effectively preserve and promote regional traditional dwelling colors, while aiding designers in capturing regional color characteristics. Secondly, by collecting precise color data, this paper lays the groundwork for future applications of digital color technology. Lastly, it aims to explore the regional color logic and its potential integration with future studies on color evaluation to uncover preferred color combinations among the public for dwellings.

Abstract:The landscape color of an urban park is the carrier of urban culture and the embodiment of urban style since it is an advanced form resulting from urban growth. It is expected to offer some theoretical references for the color design of urban parks to quantify the color features of urban parks in various seasons and the variations in people's perceptions of parks. This study used People's Park and Huanhuanxi Park in Chengdu as research objects. It used the K-means clustering algorithm to quantify the seasonal characteristics of spatial color changes of different landscape types, and it used the SD. method to examine how people perceived the landscape color in the two parks during various seasons. The findings indicate that N (no color) and G (green) are People's Park's and Huanhuaxi Park's base colors. Architectural landscapes' use of color exhibits a trend toward medium saturation and medium-high brightness. Low saturation and low brightness are characteristics of the color of the pavement landscape. The landscape color in the sketch demonstrates the traits of wide hue dispersion, consistent saturation distribution, and brightness distribution. Seasonal change considerably impacts plant color, according to the color analysis of the natural landscape. According to the SD. evaluation results, spring had the most excellent crowd perception score, followed by summer and winter. Autumn had the highest crowd perception score. The landscape color recommendation chromatography of two urban parks is then put forth in conjunction with quantitative data and population perception evaluation, offering some reference guidelines for creating urban parks.

Abstract:New buildings continue to be constructed in historic districts as urbanization accelerates. This leads to incongruities between historic and modern buildings, as well as degradation of the historic landscape. As a means of resolving these problems, this study uses the expert scoring method to solicit opinions from relevant experts through anonymous methods for architectural samples and establishes two groups of architectural images that have been screened for objective color attribute analysis. Comparing the architectural color codes on site was conducted using the Chinese Architectural Color Card based on the Munsell color system. Furthermore, questionnaires were used to measure the differences in visual comfort between different building types by asking the subjects to rate architectural colors when viewing architectural images. This study will also combine the advantages of measurement and analysis of objective objects with the study of human perceptual experience in order to enhance its practicality. In general, the buildings in the West Nanjing Road Historic Landscape District are painted in warm yellow, and the public is aware of its comforting color. Both historical and modern buildings in the historic district are mostly of medium and high brightness, and both use low-purity colors for the main body of their structures. Despite some differences between people of different genders, ages, and literacy levels, all of them agree on the main tone of warm yellow color in architectural colors.

Abstract:Garden color plays a key role in creating a spatial atmosphere, artistic conception and regional landscape characteristics. The Chinese classical garden has a profound traditional Chinese culture at its core, and its color collocation is a microcosm of Chinese culture. An in‐depth exploration of the color matching of classical gardens is helpful for promoting the organic combination of modern urban construction needs and traditional culture. Therefore, this paper takes Tang‐style gardens in Xi'an as an example and selects five typical classical gardens to study the color characteristics of garden elements, uses natural color system (NCS) to record color data from classical garden elements, establishes a color map, and quantitatively evaluates the color harmony of classical garden elements on the basis of Moon Spencer (M‐S) color harmony theory. Research has revealed that the color system of Tang‐style gardens in Xi'an is unique and includes 244 NCS standard colors with a wide distribution of hues. The study distinguishes between humanistic environment colors and natural environment colors that vary greatly with season, and provides a wide color range that reflects the beauty of nature. The color range of the humanistic environment appears calm and solemn, with colors having low blackness and low chromaticness in general. There is a certain difference in color harmony between natural and cultural environment colors, but the overall color harmony is good. This paper not only enriches the color theory system of Tang‐style gardens but also provides a reference for promoting the scientific application of traditional urban colors in modern urban landscape construction.

Abstract:Architecture is the soul of city color. The planning focus of city color is city architecture, especially the planning control of the main wall color of street buildings. The design of architectural color should not only consider the surrounding environment of the building, the content of the building and the building materials, but also proceed from the aesthetic needs and conform to the principle of color engineering. On this basis, the plan proposes color design guidelines and relies on scientific and standardized “urban building color design guidelines” to achieve the purpose of maintaining the original appearance of history and creating a new era style. Besides the traditional buildings, the other “architectural color guidelines” should leave more room for manoeuvre and not restrict the creative thinking of architects.

Abstract:This study incorporates quantitative color examination and measurement into the study of visual performance of traditional Chinese architecture. It provides an objective and scientific way for generating color-restoration drawings that either reflect the "original" or "current" state of the building by looking for the extreme chroma color and calculating the average color. This method reinforces people's understanding of the true appearance of historic buildings and makes it possible to compare the similarities and differences of color schemes between different cases on an open and standard ground. Abstract:With the combination of the visual perception experience and the qualification of NCS color system, a study on color matching of facade of residential buildings in Harbin is made. Analyzing the frequency of occurrence of blackness, chromaticness and hue collected on the residential facade, there appears several results of the study. The key-color of buildings mainly appears within the YR hue, while the co-color of buildings is the color with Y or N hue. And further contrast on the color of facade among different areas in Harbin shows that the blackness, chromaticness and hue of color matching in the old district are more unified than the new district which has an increased value of blackness and chromaticness.
Architectural colour planning strategy and planning implementation evaluation of historical and cultural cities based on different urban zones in Xuzhou (China)

Abstract:This research examined the colour planning of the city of Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province, China to empirically study the colour planning of historical and cultural cities. Based on considerable investigations, we identified Xuzhou's main hue, which spans from yellowish grayish-white to yellowish-gray (XZ11 ~ XZ29). Moreover, we formulated special colour planning schemes according to the attributes of different urban zones. To verify a plan's implementation impact, we used the analytical hierarchy process to construct an evaluation index system for the execution of urban colour planning. The system includes five secondary and 14 tertiary indicators. We employed the Delphi method to evaluate the established index system and to ascertain the weight of each index. Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was also used. We assessed the implementation of Xuzhou's main colours in six zones. The results suggest that the impact of colour planning is quite different in various urban zones, and that the colour planning influence of historical blocks is better than that of other urban zones. However, the coordination between colour planning in some areas is not adequate. Based on the above analysis, we evaluate specific problems in the implementation effect of Xuzhou's urban colour planning, as reflected in the secondary evaluation index results, and discuss measures of urban colour harmony planning and design in Xuzhou. We propose a comprehensive planning strategy that can be combined with different scales of urban colour landscapes in the future, which could provide a new optimization direction for Xuzhou's urban colour planning.

Abstract:<p>Color in traditional decorative patterns is one of the most important characteristics that can not only be easily identified, but also be taken as a specific symbol of one country or nation. As most of the traditional color schemes are based on ancient aesthetics and wisdom, in order to make them more in line with the aesthetic cognition of modern consumers, an innovation of traditional color schemes is very necessary. This article conducted an experiment to test modern consumers' psychological perception towards different traditional color combinations based on PAD three‐dimensional model and SAM measurement scale. Then the computer image recognition technology and mathematical modeling were applied to establish the relationship between different psychological perceptions and traditional color schemes to guide further design. It was found that some colors have a positive effect on consumers' preference, while some others can reduce consumers' preference; certain color combinations convey feelings of joy or warmth; the appropriate use of high saturation and moderate value colors have more attractions for consumers. Based on the results, new combination schemes for traditional colors were presented, so as to realize the creative design of traditional colors based on the psychological perception of modern consumers.</p>

The rule of Lanzhou's building evolution of color indicated that as the development of economy, the building material color suddenly drops day by day as exterior color building proportion, but by the coating, the ceramic tile and so on carries on exterior repair the building proportion. Depending on Chinese national condition, the various units decided the building color. The strength is the unit leading personnel with plans. Although market construction color is influenced by the developer and planners who occupy the leading role, the demand influence will gradually expand. Lanzhou's building color is dominated by brick red, white, red, pink etc. The cool color and the warm color are stochastically combined.
