Abstract:A new binuclear lead complex {Pb2[S2P(OC6 H-4 Me-p)(2)](2) [mu-S2P(OC6H4Me-p)(2)](2)} was synthesized and characterized, the antibacterial activities of the raw material (p-MeC6H4O)(2)PS2NH2Et2 and the complex were studied. The complex crystallized in triclinic, P (1) over bar space group with the cell parameters: a =1.06393(6) nm, b = 1. 15005 (6) nm, c = 1. 45006 (5) nm, alpha = 94. 109 (3)degrees, beta = 98. 833 (4)degrees, gamma = 109. 242(5)degrees, V = 1. 64099 (14) nm(3), D-c = 1.671 Mg/m(3), Z = 1, F (000) = 808, mu (Mo K alpha) = 5.523 mm(-1), S = 1. 024, R-1=0. 0596, wR(2) = 0. 1464 [I >2 sigma (I)]. The crystal structure study shows that the complex contains two chelating anisobidentate and two bridging tridentate (p-MeC6H4O)(2)PS2-; ligands. Each lead atom is in a distorted psi-pentagonal bipyramidal geometry by five sulfur atoms from three (p-MeC6H4O)(2)PS2- ligands, an aryl group of one of bridging (p-MeC6H4O)(2)PS2-; ligand, and a lone pair of stereochemically active electron originating from the lead atom, in which four sulfur atoms and a lone electron pair of lead locate in the equatorial positions, and a sulfur and an aryl group in the axial positions[the Pb1-S bond lengths rang from 0.2750 to 0.3257 nm, the distance of Pb1 ... C-g(i) is 0. 3365 (2) nm, and the S1-Pb1-C-g(i) angle is 173. 79 (5)degrees]. The two bridging (p-MeC6H4O)(2)PS2-; ligands each bridges two lead atoms to form an chair conformation of eight-membered ring [Pb2S4P2]. The complex is stable up to over 281.7 degrees C. The bioactivity test shows that both the raw material and complex can inhibit Staphylococcus, E. Coll, and B. Subtilis and the complex exhibited the higher antibacterial activity compared with the raw material.
