Abstract:After studying age-specific death probability of China's aging population from 1982 to 2010, we found that in the past nearly 30 years, the death probability of China's aging population had decreased over time, and health status and age connotation of aging population had been changing. At the same time, the reform of economic and social environment and the development of science and technology had greatly changed the living and production mode of aging population and also provided them the ability and more opportunities to participate in economic and social activities, so that compared with former generation, latter generation became "more healthy" and "younger".In conclusion, the results of the paper suggest that it is necessary to rethink the traditional definition of aging population. In addition, the change of death probability of China's elderly population also showed significant gender differences, regional differences, and the gap with the developed countries, indicating that there is still a long way to go for China to complete the fundamental transformation of death mode.Redefining age on the basis of fully understanding of the above differences, will allow us to have a new understanding of aging society, it will also help us to reconstruct the system of public policy for normalized aging society in the future.
