Abstract:In this note, we show a classical result on the local existence and uniqueness of a solution to an initial value problem subject to a Lipschitz condition. We use only elementary tools from mathematical analysis, without involving any integration. We proceed by showing that the Cauchy iterates converge on a dense subset of the interval and subsequently proving that the extension of this limit function to the whole interval is a solution to the Cauchy problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a uniqueness theorem obtained by using direct calculation. This theorem is applicable to stability problems of functional equations whose solutions are monomial or generalized polynomial mappings of degree n. The advantage of this uniqueness theorem is that it simplifies the proof by eliminating the need to repeatedly and cumbersomely prove uniqueness in stability studies.

Abstract:Strömbergsson and Venkatesh proved that a system of homogeneous linear congruence modulo prime has a positive probability to have a short non-trivial solution. We extend this result and show that the same holds for square-free moduli. In the case of 2-variables single linear congruence, we show that there is a positive probability to have a short solution for all integer moduli as well as positive probability for having short non-trivial solutions which are primitive in a suitable sense.

Consider the following stochastic partial differential equations in the plane:dX z=α(z, Xz)dMz+β(z, Xz)dAz, z∈R + 2 , Xz=Zz, z∈∂R + 2 , whereR + 2 =[0, +∞)×[0,+∞) and ∂R + 2 is its boundary,Z is a continuous stochastic process on ∂R + 2 . We establish a new theorem on the pathwise uniqueness of solutions for the equation under a weaker condition than the Lipschitz one. The result concerning the one-parameter analogue of the problem we consider here is immediate (see [1, Theorem 3.2]). Unfortunately, the situation is much more complicated for two-parameter process and we believe that our result is the first one of its kind and is interesting in itself. We have proved the existence theorem for the equation in [2].

Abstract:Our first result is a statement of a somewhat general form of a non-substitution theorem for linear programming problems, along with a very easy proof of the same. Subsequently, we provide an easy proof of theorem 1 in a 1979 paper by Olvi L Mangasarian based on a lemma that may be of some significance by itself. We also provide a simple proof of the result that states that the set of optimal solutions of a bounded linear optimization problem is the set of all convex combinations of its basic optimal solutions and the set of basic optimal solutions are the extreme points of the set of optimal solutions. We do so by appealing to the well-known lemma of Farkas and another well-known result that states that if a linear optimization problem has an optimal solution, it has at least one basic optimal solution. Both results we appeal to have easy proofs. We do not appeal to any version of the Klein-Milman Theorem or any result in advanced polyhedral combinatorics to obtain our results.

The second part of Problem 3 is about whether the limit cycle of a quasi-homogeneous system $ \dot{x}=y,\; \dot{y}=-x^3+\alpha x^2y+y^3 $ is unique. In this paper, we give a positive answer to this question by analysing the uniqueness of the heteroclinic separatrix at infinity.

Abstract:We study the number of monochromatic solutions to linear equations in a $2$-coloring of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. We show that any nontrivial linear equation has a constant fraction of solutions that are monochromatic in any $2$-coloring of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. We further study commonness of four-term equations and disprove a conjecture of Costello and Elvin by showing that, unlike over $\mathbb{F}_p$, the four-term equation $x_1 + 2x_2 - x_3 - 2x_4 = 0$ is uncommon over $\{1,\ldots,n\}$.
