Abstract:In this paper, interval estimation of the two-parameter exponential distribution based on constant-stress accelerated life test data under Type-II censoring is studied. The life-stress models of the scale and location parameters are assumed to be log-linear. The maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are obtained. The exact and approximate confidence intervals for the parameters in the life-stress model of the scale parameter are developed. The generalized confidence intervals for the parameters in the life-stress model of the location parameter, and mean and reliability function at the designed stress level are derived. The performance of the proposed generalized confidence intervals is assessed by the Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, a real example is used to illustrate our methods.

Abstract:In this article we present a modification of the Shapiro-Wilk (1972) exponentiality test when the sample is censored. The test statistic is constructed by using the normalized waiting times based on the sample data, and is shown to have the same null distribution as the uncensored case with a corresponding reduction in sample size. Stephens's (1978) modification of the Shapiro-Wilk statistic for known origin is also modified, to allow censoring in the sample. Again, the test is constructed using the normalized waiting times; it also has the same null distribution as the uncensored case, with a reduction in the sample size. We compare the power of our test with the power of the Brain and Shapiro (1983) regression tests, using Monte Carlo simulation. Our test compares favorably to the regression test, and it often does better in the case of left censoring. We then demonstrate how our results may be used in a test for uniformity, using the probability integral transformation. Finally, we give an explicit expression for the null distribution of the Shapiro-Wilk test in the neighborhood of its upper tail.

Methodology

Abstract:We express the joint R\'enyi entropy of progressively censored order statistics in terms of an incomplete integral of the hazard function, and provide a simple estimate of the joint R\'enyi entropy of progressively Type-II censored data. Then we establish a goodness of fit test statistic based on the R\'enyi Kullback-Leibler information with the progressively Type-II censored data, and compare its performance with the leading test statistic. A Monte Carlo simulation study shows that the proposed test statistic shows better powers than the leading test statistic against the alternatives with monotone increasing, monotone decreasing and nonmonotone hazard functions.

Abstract:There is a kind of sampling inspection problem that both the standard lifetime for qualified items and the least lifetime for disqualified items should be considered.In this paper,the total testing time of samples with exponentially distributed lifetime was taken as the statistical variable.The sampling inspection plan was deduced in type Ⅰ censoring based on the least lifetime of items using the normal property in large sample and the central limit theorem with the constraints of the least lifetime added.The acceptance rules and operating method for the plan were also proposed.The plan characteristics were analyzed to study the influence of all plan parameters on testing effectiveness and results.Simulations validate the feasibility of the plan and show that the risks for both the users and manufacturers are equal.

A bootstrap procedure is employed to approximate the critical values of the test. We also carry out extensive simulations to evaluate the finite sample performance of the test and illustrate the practical use with applications to leukemia and breast cancer datasets.

Abstract:In this paper, we first present a characterization of exponential distribution based on the extropy of record values and next introduce a goodness-of-fit test for exponentiality. Monte Carlo simulation is used to compute the critical values of our proposed test for different sample sizes and significance levels. To show the advantage of the proposed test, we adopt 58 competitor tests and compute the adjusted power against different alternatives with distinct types of hazard function. The power results show that our proposed test has superior adjusted power if the alternatives have increasing failure rates or bathtub decreasing-increasing failure rates, especially when the sample size is small. Finally, three real examples are used to illustrate the applicability and robustness of our proposed test by monitoring the p-values of the tests.

Abstract:The length-biased lognormal distribution is a length-biased version of lognormal distribution, which is developed to model the length-biased lifetime data from, for example, biological investigation, medical research, and engineering fields. Owing to the existence of censoring phenomena in lifetime data, we study the change-point-testing problem of length-biased lognormal distribution under random censoring in this paper. A procedure based on the modified information criterion is developed to detect changes in parameters of this distribution. Under the sufficient condition of the Fisher information matrix being positive definite, it is proven that the null asymptotic distribution of the test statistic follows a chi-square distribution. In order to evaluate the uncertainty of change point location estimation, a way of calculating the coverage probabilities and average lengths of confidence sets of change point location based on the profile likelihood and deviation function is proposed. The simulations are conducted, under the scenarios of uniform censoring and exponential censoring, to investigate the validity of the proposed method. And the results indicate that the proposed approach performs better in terms of test power, coverage probabilities, and average lengths of confidence sets compared to the method based on the likelihood ratio test. Subsequently, the proposed approach is applied to the analysis of survival data from heart transplant patients, and the results show that there are differences in the median survival time post-heart transplantation among patients of different ages.

Abstract:We propose some new diagnostic tests for duration models -popularly used in economics, finance and other fields -using a computationally simple empirical survival function that utilizes information from censored observations. The impact of parameter estimation uncertainty is properly addressed, ensuring that the proposed tests have an asymptotically valid Type I error. A simple resampling method is used to obtain critical values for the proposed tests, and extensions to unobserved heterogeneity and competing risk are also considered. A simulation study shows that the proposed tests have reasonable sizes and good powers in finite samples.

Abstract:Assuming that the life of the tested samples follows the Topp–Leone distribution, the maximum likelihood estimates and Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameter, reliability and hazard rate are obtained based on the double Type-I hybrid censored samples. According to the observed data, the conditional probability density functions of the future failure moments are obtained, and then the point predictions and interval predictions of the future failure moments are carried out. Based on the double Type-I hybrid censored data, the predictive value and predictive interval of its failure time are given for any tested sample independent and identically distributed in the Topp–Leone distribution. Finally, a numerical example is analysed and the relevant results are calculated.

Abstract:There has been growing interest in exploiting potential forecast gains from the nonlinear structure of self-exciting threshold autoregressive (SETAR) models. Statistical tests have been proposed in the literature to help analysts check for the presence of SETAR-type nonlinearities in observed time series. However, previous studies show that classical nonlinearity tests are not robust to additive outliers. In practice, time series outliers are not uncommonly encountered. It is important to develop a more robust test for SETAR-type nonlinearity in time series analysis and forecasting. In this paper we propose a new robust nonlinearity test and the asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic is derived. A Monte Carlo experiment is carried out to compare the power of the proposed test with other existing tests under the influence of time series outliers. The effects of additive outliers on nonlinearity tests with misspecification of the autoregressive order are also studied. The results indicate that the proposed method is preferable to the classical tests when the observations are contaminated with outliers. Finally, we provide illustrative examples by applying the statistical tests to three real datasets. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:<span>Based on a new lifetime test scheme proposed in this article called double Type-I hybrid censoring scheme, the point estimates and confidence intervals of the unknown parameter, reliability function and failure rate function of the Rayleigh distributed lifetime are obtained. According to the posterior predictive distribution, the predictive estimates are given under three loss functions. Monte-Carlo method is used to simulate double Type-I hybrid censored data. The means and relative errors of various estimators are calculated. The influence of sample size on the estimated accuracy is explained. Finally, a numerical example is given to calculate the estimated values.</span>

Heterogeneous extremes in the presence of random covariates and censoring

Abstract:The task of analyzing extreme events with censoring effects is considered under a framework allowing for random covariate information. A wide class of estimators that can be cast as product-limit integrals is considered, for when the conditional distributions belong to the Frechet max-domain of attraction. The main mathematical contribution is establishing uniform conditions on the families of the regularly varying tails for which the asymptotic behaviour of the resulting estimators is tractable. In particular, a decomposition of the integral estimators in terms of exchangeable sums is provided, which leads to a law of large numbers and several central limit theorems. Subsequently, the finite-sample behaviour of the estimators is explored through a simulation study, and through the analysis of two real-life datasets. In particular, the inclusion of covariates makes the model significantly versatile and, as a consequence, practically relevant.

Abstract:The cumulative residual extropy (CRJ) is a measure of uncertainty that serves as an alternative to extropy. It replaces the probability density function with the survival function in the expression of extropy. This work introduces a new concept called normalized dynamic survival extropy (NDSE), a dynamic variation of CRJ. We observe that NDSE is equivalent to CRJ of the random variable of interest $X_{[t]}$ in the age replacement model at a fixed time $t$. Additionally, we have demonstrated that NDSE remains constant exclusively for exponential distribution at any time. We categorize two classes, INDSE and DNDSE, based on their increasing and decreasing NDSE values. Next, we present a non-parametric test to assess whether a distribution follows an exponential pattern against INDSE. We derive the exact and asymptotic distribution for the test statistic $\widehat{\Delta}^*$. Additionally, a test for asymptotic behavior is presented in the paper for right censoring data. Finally, we determine the critical values and power of our exact test through simulation. The simulation demonstrates that the suggested test is easy to compute and has significant statistical power, even with small sample sizes. We also conduct a power comparison analysis among other tests, which shows better power for the proposed test against other alternatives mentioned in this paper. Some numerical real-life examples validating the test are also included.

Exponentially Consistent Outlier Hypothesis Testing for Continuous Sequences

Abstract:In outlier hypothesis testing, one aims to detect outlying sequences among a given set of sequences, where most sequences are generated i.i.d. from a nominal distribution while outlying sequences (outliers) are generated i.i.d. from a different anomalous distribution. Most existing studies focus on discrete-valued sequences, where each data sample takes values in a finite set. To account for practical scenarios where data sequences usually take real values, we study outlier hypothesis testing for continuous sequences when both the nominal and anomalous distributions are \emph{unknown}. Specifically, we propose distribution free tests and prove that the probabilities of misclassification error, false reject and false alarm decay exponentially fast for three different test designs: fixed-length test, sequential test, and two-phase test. In a fixed-length test, one fixes the sample size of each observed sequence; in a sequential test, one takes a sample sequentially from each sequence per unit time until a reliable decision can be made; in a two-phase test, one adapts the sample size from two different fixed values. Remarkably, the two-phase test achieves a good balance between test design complexity and theoretical performance. We first consider the case of at most one outlier, and then generalize our results to the case with multiple outliers where the number of outliers is unknown.

Abstract:Censoring is a common occurrence in life testing and reliability analysis, primarily due to constraints such as time and cost. In this paper, we construct control charts using goodness-of-fit test statistics to monitor novel and effective progressive Type II censoring data. In practice, scenarios where the number of samples in Phase I is insufficient often arise, prompting the proposal of self-starting exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts based on goodness-of-fit test statistics to monitor such processes. Numerous Monte Carlo simulation experiments demonstrate the excellent performance of the control charts proposed in this paper under different settings. A breakdown time of an insulating fluid example is utilized to illustrate the proposed EWMA and self-starting EWMA control charts.

A maximum-mean-discrepancy goodness-of-fit test for censored data

Abstract:We introduce a kernel-based goodness-of-fit test for censored data, where observations may be missing in random time intervals: a common occurrence in clinical trials and industrial life-testing. The test statistic is straightforward to compute, as is the test threshold, and we establish consistency under the null. Unlike earlier approaches such as the Log-rank test, we make no assumptions as to how the data distribution might differ from the null, and our test has power against a very rich class of alternatives. In experiments, our test outperforms competing approaches for periodic and Weibull hazard functions (where risks are time dependent), and does not show the failure modes of tests that rely on user-defined features. Moreover, in cases where classical tests are provably most powerful, our test performs almost as well, while being more general.

Abstract:This article deals with the problem of comparing two populations with respect to the distribution of the gap time between two successive events when each subject can experience a series of events and when the event times are potentially right censored. Several families of nonparametric tests are developed, all of which allow arbitrary distributions and dependence structures for the serial events. The asymptotic and small-sample properties of the proposed tests are investigated. An illustration with data taken from a colon cancer study is provided. The related problem of testing the independence of two successive gap times is also studied.
