Abstract:In this paper, interval estimation of the two-parameter exponential distribution based on constant-stress accelerated life test data under Type-II censoring is studied. The life-stress models of the scale and location parameters are assumed to be log-linear. The maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are obtained. The exact and approximate confidence intervals for the parameters in the life-stress model of the scale parameter are developed. The generalized confidence intervals for the parameters in the life-stress model of the location parameter, and mean and reliability function at the designed stress level are derived. The performance of the proposed generalized confidence intervals is assessed by the Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, a real example is used to illustrate our methods.

Abstract:This paper takes into account the estimation for the two unknown parameters of the Chen distribution with bathtub-shape hazard rate function under the improved adaptive Type-II progressive censored data. Maximum likelihood estimation for two parameters are proposed and the approximate confidence intervals are established using the asymptotic normality. Bayesian estimation are obtained under the symmetric and asymmetric loss function, during which the importance sampling and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm are proposed. Finally, the performance of various estimation methods is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation experiments, and the proposed estimation method is illustrated through the analysis of a real data set.

Abstract:In this paper, we use smoothed empirical likelihood methods to construct confidence intervals for hazard and density functions under right censorship. Some empirical log-likelihood ratios for the hazard and density functions are obtained and their asymptotic limits are derived. Approximate confidence intervals based on these methods are constructed. Simulation studies are used to compare the empirical likelihood methods and the normal approximation methods in terms of coverage accuracy. It is found that the empirical likelihood methods provide better inference.
On Entropy Estimation of Inverse Weibull Distribution under Improved Adaptive Progressively Type-II Censoring with Applications

Abstract:This article utilizes improved adaptive progressively Type-II censored data to estimate the entropy of the inverse Weibull distribution. Rényi, q, and Shannon entropy measurements are used to define entropy to achieve this objective. Both point and interval estimations of the entropy quantities are investigated through the maximum likelihood and maximum product of spacing methods. Two parametric bootstrap confidence intervals based on the two estimation techniques are also considered for the various entropy measures. A Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to investigate how estimates behave at various sample sizes and different censoring schemes based on some statistical measurements. The simulations demonstrate that, as anticipated, when the sample size grows, the estimation accuracy also grows. Furthermore, they show that the estimated entropy measures get closer to the actual entropy values when the censoring level decreases. For purposes of explanation, two applications to actual datasets are taken into consideration. The results verified that the adaptive or improved adaptive progressive censoring schemes give more information about data than the conventional progressive censoring scheme in terms of minimum entropy measures.

Abstract:In this article, we obtain the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of the parameters, from a two-parameter log-normal distribution based on the adaptive Type-II progressive hybrid censoring scheme, which was introduced by Ng et al. (2009) for life testing or reliability experiment. In order to compare the results, we calculate corresponding estimators of the Type-II progressive hybrid censoring scheme. In particular, we provide computational formulas of the expected total test time and the expected number of failures for each scheme. We also compute the observed Fisher information matrix and use them to obtain the asymptotic confidence intervals. A simulation study carries out to evaluate the bias and mean square error of the MLEs and AMLEs from the two above-mentioned schemes. Finally, we present a numerical example to illustrate the methods of inference discussed here.

Abstract:This article deals with problems of estimation and prediction under classical and Bayesian approaches when lifetime data following a lognormal distribution are observed under type-I progressive hybrid censoring. We first obtain maximum likelihood estimates, Bayes estimates, and corresponding interval estimates of unknown lognormal parameters. We then develop predictors to predict censored observations and construct prediction intervals. Further, we analyze two real data sets and conduct a simulation study to compare the performance of proposed methods of estimation and prediction. Finally, optimal censoring schemes are constructed under cost constraints and a conclusion is presented.

Abstract:The length-biased lognormal distribution is a length-biased version of lognormal distribution, which is developed to model the length-biased lifetime data from, for example, biological investigation, medical research, and engineering fields. Owing to the existence of censoring phenomena in lifetime data, we study the change-point-testing problem of length-biased lognormal distribution under random censoring in this paper. A procedure based on the modified information criterion is developed to detect changes in parameters of this distribution. Under the sufficient condition of the Fisher information matrix being positive definite, it is proven that the null asymptotic distribution of the test statistic follows a chi-square distribution. In order to evaluate the uncertainty of change point location estimation, a way of calculating the coverage probabilities and average lengths of confidence sets of change point location based on the profile likelihood and deviation function is proposed. The simulations are conducted, under the scenarios of uniform censoring and exponential censoring, to investigate the validity of the proposed method. And the results indicate that the proposed approach performs better in terms of test power, coverage probabilities, and average lengths of confidence sets compared to the method based on the likelihood ratio test. Subsequently, the proposed approach is applied to the analysis of survival data from heart transplant patients, and the results show that there are differences in the median survival time post-heart transplantation among patients of different ages.

Abstract:Data with censoring is common in many areas of science and the associated statistical models are generally estimated with the method of maximum likelihood combined with a model selection criterion such as Akaike's information criterion. This manuscript demonstrates how the information theoretic minimum message length principle can be used to estimate statistical models in the presence of type I random and fixed censoring data. The exponential distribution with fixed and random censoring is used as an example to demonstrate the process where we observe that the minimum message length estimate of mean survival time has some advantages over the standard maximum likelihood estimate.

Abstract:In this article, estimates of reliability performance characteristics are discussed when life test is conducted upon various test facilities under block progressive Type-II censoring. When the differences in different test facilities are taken into account and the lifetime of products follows a bathtub-shaped hazard rate distribution, different estimates are obtained from classical and hierarchical Bayesian frameworks, respectively. Existence and uniqueness of maximum likelihood estimators of model parameters are established, and approximate confidence intervals are obtained as well based on asymptotic theory and delta method. Moreover, associated Bayes estimators are also evaluated using a hybrid Metropolis-Hasting sampling in hierarchical framework. Finally, performances of the proposed approaches are compared via extensive simulation study, and a real data example is also presented for application viewpoint.

Abstract:Censoring is a common occurrence in life testing and reliability analysis, primarily due to constraints such as time and cost. In this paper, we construct control charts using goodness-of-fit test statistics to monitor novel and effective progressive Type II censoring data. In practice, scenarios where the number of samples in Phase I is insufficient often arise, prompting the proposal of self-starting exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts based on goodness-of-fit test statistics to monitor such processes. Numerous Monte Carlo simulation experiments demonstrate the excellent performance of the control charts proposed in this paper under different settings. A breakdown time of an insulating fluid example is utilized to illustrate the proposed EWMA and self-starting EWMA control charts.

Abstract:The nonparametric estimator of the conditional survival function proposed by Beran is a useful tool to evaluate the effects of covariates in the presence of random right censoring. However, censoring indicators of right censored data may be missing for different reasons in many applications. We propose some estimators of the conditional cumulative hazard and survival functions which allow to handle this situation. We also construct the likelihood ratio confidence bands for them and obtain their asymptotic properties. Simulation studies are used to evaluate the performances of the estimators and their confidence bands.
Copula-based Semiparametric Nonnormal Transformed Linear Model for Survival Data with Dependent Censoring

Abstract:Although the independent censoring assumption is commonly used in survival analysis, it can be violated when the censoring time is related to the survival time, which often happens in many practical applications. To address this issue, we propose a flexible semiparametric method for dependent censored data. Our approach involves fitting the survival time and the censoring time with a joint transformed linear model, where the transformed function is unspecified. This allows for a very general class of models that can account for possible covariate effects, while also accommodating administrative censoring. We assume that the transformed variables have a bivariate nonnormal distribution based on parametric copulas and parametric marginals, which further enhances the flexibility of our method. We demonstrate the identifiability of the proposed model and establish the consistency and asymptotic normality of the model parameters under appropriate regularity conditions and assumptions. Furthermore, we evaluate the performance of our method through extensive simulation studies, and provide a real data example for illustration.

Abstract:For right censored data, empirical likelihood method is used to construct the confidence band for the difference of two survival functions. The empirical log-likelihood ratio is derived and its asymptotic distribution is obtained. Simulation studies show that the likelihood confidence band based on the empirical likelihood method performed better than that of the Hall–Wellner type band in terms of the coverage accuracy, especially for small size of observation.

Abstract:We study the problem of estimating multicomponent stress-strength reliability under progressive Type II censoring when stress and strength variables follow unit Burr III distributions with a common shape parameter. Point and interval estimates of this parametric function are derived using both classical and Bayesian approaches. Different approximation methods are used to obtain Bayes estimates. In particular, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimate of the reliability is discussed when the common shape parameter is known. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare proposed methods. Finally, we provide two numerical examples for illustration purposes.

Abstract:In this paper, accelerated life test is considered when the latent failure times follow Weibull competing risks models. When both scale and shape parameters are nonconstant and affected by operating stresses, inference is discussed for a constant-stress model under a generalized progressive hybrid censoring. Maximum likelihood estimates together with existence and uniqueness are established, and the approximate confidence intervals for unknown parameters are proposed based on the asymptotic theory. Further, when the distributions of failure causes have common shape or scale parameters, associated point and interval estimates are also proposed. In addition, to compare the equivalence of the parameters of different Weibull competing risks, likelihood ratio tests for interested hypotheses are presented for complementary. Finally, extensive numerical studies and a real-life example are provided for illustrations.
