Abstract:Let λ be a reflexive Banach sequence lattice and X be a Banach lattice. In this paper, we show that the positive injective tensor product $$\lambda {\mathord{\buildrel{\lower3pt\hbox{$\scriptscriptstyle\smile$}}\over \otimes } _{\left| \varepsilon \right|}}X$$ is a Grothendieck space if and only if X is a Grothendieck space and every positive linear operator from λ* to X** is compact.

Abstract:For a Banach space E, we give sufficient conditions for the Grothendieck property of (circle times) over cap E-n,E-s,E-pi, the symmetric projective tensor product of E. Moreover, if E* has the bounded compact approximation property, then these sufficient conditions are also necessary.

Abstract:Let (X, tau(1)) and (Y, tau(2)) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X, and Y', respectively, L (X, Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K (X, Y) be the space of all compact operators of L (X, Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K (X, Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K (X, Y); that is, if the sequence space X has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each; lambda-multiplier WOT-convergent series Sigma(i) T-i in K(X, Y) must be X-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T: (X, tau(1)) --> or (lambda(beta), sigma(lambda(beta),lambda)) is compact. Abstract:We give a sufficient condition for a pair of Banach spaces $(X,Y)$ to have the following property: whenever $W_1 \subseteq X$ and $W_2 \subseteq Y$ are sets such that $\{x\otimes y: \, x\in W_1, \, y\in W_2\}$ is weakly precompact in the projective tensor product $X \widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$, then either $W_1$ or $W_2$ is relatively norm compact. For instance, such a property holds for the pair $(\ell_p,\ell_q)$ if $1<p,q<\infty$ satisfy $1/p+1/q\geq 1$. Other examples are given that allow us to provide alternative proofs to some results on multiplication operators due to Saksman and Tylli. We also revisit, with more direct proofs, some known results about the embeddability of $\ell_1$ into $X \widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$ for arbitrary Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$, in connection with the compactness of all operators from $X$ to $Y^*$.

Abstract:Let E be an atomic reflexive Banach lattice and X be any Banach lattice with Pelczynski's property (V). We show that (i) the positive injective tensor product E circle times(|epsilon|) X has Pelczynski's property (V); (ii) the positive projective tensor product E (circle times) over cap (|pi|) X has Pelczynski's property (V) if and only if every positive linear operator from E to X* is compact. As an application, we provide new examples of non-reflexive Banach lattices with Pelczynski's property (V).

Abstract:In this short note, we prove that the set of elementary tensors is weakly closed in the projective tensor product of two Banach spaces. As a result, we are able to answer a question from the literature proving that if $(x_n) \subset X$ and $(y_n) \subset Y$ are two weakly null sequences such that $(x_n \otimes y_n)$ converges weakly in $X \widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$, then $(x_n \otimes y_n)$ is also weakly null.

In this paper we show that the positive projective tensor product of E and X, has the complete continuity property (respectively, the analytic complete continuity property) if and only if both E and X have the same property. Abstract:We present some sufficient conditions ensuring the upper semicontinuity and the continuity of the Bregman projection operator ΠCg and the relative projection operator PCg in terms of the D-approximate (weak) compactness for a nonempty closed set C in a Banach space X. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for the convexity of a Chebyshev subset of a Banach space X. Our results extend the corresponding results of [H.H. Bauschke, X.F. Wang, J. Ye and X. M. Yuan, Bregman distances and Chebyshev sets, J. Approx. Theory 159 (2009) 3–25] to infinite dimensional spaces.

In this article necessary and sufficient conditions ensuring that property $(gw)$ transfers from $A$ and $B$ to $A\otimes B$ and to $\tau_{AB}$ will be given.

Abstract:In this paper we analyse when every element of $X\widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$ attains its projective norm. We prove that this is the case if $X$ is the dual of a subspace of a predual of an $\ell_1(I)$ space and $Y$ is $1$-complemented in its bidual under approximation properties assumptions. This result allows us to provide some new examples where $X$ is a Lipschitz-free space. We also prove that the set of norm-attaining elements is dense in $X\widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$ if, for instance, $X=L_1(\mu)$ and $Y$ is any Banach space, or if $X$ has the metric $\pi$-property and $Y$ is a dual space with the RNP.

Abstract:We show that, in some cases, the projective and the injective tensor products of two Banach spaces do not have the Dunford-Pettis property (DPP). As a consequence, we obtain that $(c_0\hat{\otimes}_\pi c_0)^{**}$ fails the DPP. Since $(c_0\hat{\otimes}_\pi c_0)^{*}$ does enjoy it, this provides a new space with the DPP whose dual fails to have it. We also prove that, if $E$ and $F$ are ${\mathscr L}_1$-spaces, then $E\hat{\otimes}_\epsilon F$ has the DPP if and only if both $E$ and $F$ have the Schur property. Other results and examples are given.

Abstract:We analyze certain algebraic structures of the Banach space projective tensor product of $C^*$-algebras which are comparable with their known counterparts or the Haagerup tensor product and the operator space projective tensor product of $C^*$-algebras. Highlights of this analysis include (a) injectivity of the Banach space projective tensor product when restricted to the tensor products of $C^*$-algebras, (b) detailed structure of closed ideals of $A \otimes_{\gamma} B$ in terms of those of $A$ and $B$, (c) identification of certain spaces of ideals of $A \otimes_{\gamma} B$ in terms of those of $A$ and $B$ from the perspective of hull-kernel topology, and (d) identification of the center of $A \otimes_{\gamma} B$ with $Z(A) \otimes_{\gamma} Z(B)$, where $A$ and $B$ are $C^*$-algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that four main diagonal spaces of injective tensor products are pairwise isometrically isomorphic. When E is a Banach lattice, we show that the tensor diagonal of E is a 1-unconditional basic sequence in both the n-fold injective tensor product of E and the n-fold symmetric injective tensor product of E.

Abstract:Given an operator $\phi:X\rightarrow Y$ between Banach spaces, we consider its tensor powers $\phi^{\otimes k}$ as operators from the $k$-fold injective tensor product of $X$ to the $k$-fold projective tensor product of $Y$. We show that after taking the $k$th root, the operator norm of $\phi^{\otimes k}$ converges to the $2$-dominated norm $\gamma^*_2(\phi)$, one of the standard operator ideal norms.

Abstract:Motivated by an observation of Namioka and Phelps on an approximation property of order unit spaces, we introduce the [Formula: see text]-tensor product and the [Formula: see text]-tensor product of two compact matrix convex sets. We define a new approximation property for operator systems, and give a characterization using the [Formula: see text]- and [Formula: see text]-tensor products in the spirit of Grothendieck. Thus, an operator system has the operator system approximation property if and only if it is [Formula: see text]-nuclear in a natural sense.

Abstract:The aim of this note is to prove that, given two superreflexive Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$, then $X\widehat{\otimes}_\pi Y$ is superreflexive if and only if either $X$ or $Y$ is finite-dimensional. In a similar way, we prove that $X\widehat{\otimes}_\varepsilon Y$ is superreflexive if and only if either $X$ or $Y$ is finite-dimensional.
