Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity and singularity of the mean curvature flow of closed, smooth, embedded hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space with positive mean curvature, with an attempt to understand the geometry of first time singularities. First we consider the mean curvature flow of graphs and convex hypersurfaces. Then we consider the special blow-up solutions at the maximal mean curvature points and obtain self-similar solutions at type I singularities and translating solutions at type II singularities. Finally we show that a general blow-up sequence converges along a subsequence to a convex limit flow, and give a classification of ancient convex solutions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 53C44, 53A10, 35J60.

Abstract:In this work, we propose a new evolving geometric flow (called translating mean curvature flow) for the translating solitons of hypersurfaces in Rn+1. We study the basic properties, such as positivity preserving property, of the translating mean curvature flow. The Dirichlet problem for the graphical translating mean curvature flow is studied and the global existence of the flow and the convergence property are also considered.

Abstract:Under the hypothesis of mean curvature flows of hypersurfaces, we prove that the limit of the smooth rescaling of the singularity is weakly convex. It is a generalization of the result due to G. Huisken and C. Sinestrari in [5]. These a-priori bounds are satisfied for mean convex hypersurfaces in locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the existence of classical solutions to the Dirichlet problem of a class of quasi-linear elliptic equations on an unbounded cone and a U-type domain in Rn (n⩾2). This problem comes from the study of mean curvature flow or its generalization, the flow by powers of mean curvature. Our approach is a modified version of the classical Perron method, where the solutions to the minimal surface equation are used as sub-solutions and a family auxiliary functions are constructed as super-solutions.

Abstract:We prove some non-existence theorems for translating solutions to Lagrangian mean curvature flow. More precisely, we show that translating solutions with an L-2 bound on the mean curvature are planes and that almost-calibrated translating solutions which are static are also planes. Recent work of D. Joyce, Y.-I. Lee, and M.-P. Tsui shows that these conditions are optimal.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the $k$-Hessian curvature flow of noncompact spacelike hypersurfaces in Minkowski space. We first prove the existence of translating solutions with given asymptotic behavior. Then, we prove that for strictly convex initial hypersurface satisfying certain conditions, the curvature flow exists for all time, and the normalized flow converges to a translating solution.

Abstract:First, we review the authors’ recent results on translating solutions to mean curvature flows in Euclidean space as well as in Minkowski space, emphasizing on the asymptotic expansion of rotationally symmetric solutions. Then we study the sufficient condition for which the translating solution is rotationally symmetric. We will use a moving plane method to show that this condition is optimal for the symmetry of solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations without ground state condition.

Abstract:In this paper we study the theory of self translating solitons of the mean curvature flow of immersed surfaces in the product space $\mathbb{H}^2\times\mathbb{R}$. We relate this theory to the one of manifolds with density, and exploit this relation by regarding these translating solitons as minimal surfaces in a conformal metric space. Explicit examples of these surfaces are constructed, and we study the asymptotic behaviour of the existing rotationally symmetric examples. Finally, we prove some uniqueness and non-existence theorems.

Abstract:We prove that any complete immersed two-sided mean convex translating soliton $\Sigma \subset \mathbb{R}^3$ for the mean curvature flow is convex. As a corollary it follows that an entire mean convex graphical translating soliton in $\mathbb{R}^3$ is the axisymmetric "bowl soliton". We also show that if the mean curvature of $\Sigma$ tends to zero at infinity, then $\Sigma$ can be represented as an entire graph and so is the "bowl soliton". Finally we classify all locally strictly convex graphical translating solitons defined over strip regions.

Abstract:We consider strictly convex hypersurfaces which are evolving by the non-parametric logarithmic Gauss curvature flow subject to a Neumann boundary condition. Solutions are shown to converge smoothly to hypersurfaces moving by translation. In particular, for bounded domains we prove that convex functions with prescribed normal derivative satisfy a uniform oscillation estimate.

Abstract:We classify the surfaces translating under the flows by sub-affine-critical powers of the Gauss curvature. This, in particular, lists all translating solitons possibly model Type II singularities for convex closed solutions in all positive powers. The surfaces are entire graphs, and therefore our result corresponds to the Liouville theorem for the degenerate Monge--Ampère equations $\det D^2 u=(1+|Du|^2)^{2-\frac{1}{2\alpha}}$ on $\mathbb{R}^2$ in the range $0<\alpha <1/4$. The result also reveals that the moduli spaces of solutions are homeomorphic to either Euclidean spaces or cylinders.

Abstract:We derive local $C^{2}$ estimates for complete non-compact translating solitons of the Gauss curvature flow in $\mathbb{R}^3$ which are graphs over a convex domain $\Omega$. This is closely is related to deriving local $C^{1,1}$ estimates for the degenerate Monge-Ampére equation. As a result, given a weakly convex bounded domain $\Omega$, we establish the existence of a $C^{1,1}_{\text{loc}}$ translating soliton. In particular, when the boundary $\partial \Omega$ has a line segment, we show the existence of flat sides of the translator from a local a'priori non-degeneracy estimate near the free-boundary.
