Effects of System Short Circuit Capacity on the Operation Condition of the Cascaded STATCOM

Abstract:The relationship of the operation condition of the cascaded static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) and the system short circuit capacity is studied by theoretical analysis and simulation.The cascaded STATCOM operation condition is presented that the system short circuit capacity must excess a minimum value,which is the minimum system short circuit capacity.By modeling the equivalent circuit of the cascaded STATCOM,the minimum value of the system short circuit capacity can be calculated.The analysis is verified by simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC.
