Abstract:The working medium of low heat transfer performance has become a major obstacle to develop a new generation of highly efficient heat exchanger.With the rapid development of the preparation technology of nano particles,it is possible to make stable nanofluids by adding nanoparticles with high thermal conductivity into the traditional pure liquid working medium.Nano fluid as a new type of high efficient heat transfer medium has attracted more and more attention from researchers in the field of engineering thermal physics.Much research work has been done in the past 20 years and some breakthrough progresses have been achieved in the following aspects:1) The theoretical model of the thermal conductivity of nanofluids is established and a formula for calculating the apparent thermal conductivity of nanofluids is gradually recognized.2) Through a large number of experimental studies,the basic experimental data of thermal conductivity of many kinds of nanofluids are summarized.3) Based on the micro convection and micro diffusion effect,the convection heat transfer corresponding formula of nanofluids is established.4) Progresses have been made on the numerical simulation of nanofluids natural convection heat transfer in rectangular space and the experimental research on nanofluids pool boiling heat transfer.In this paper,the latest research results of the above aspects are reviewed.Finally,the research progress and existing problems of the enhanced heat transfer technology of nanofluids are summarized and prospected.

Abstract:This paper presents a comprehensive and critical review of studies on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer, flow boiling heat transfer, critical heat flux (CHF), and two-phase flow phenomena with nanofluids. First, general analysis of the available studies on the relevant topics is presented. Then, studies of physical properties of nanofluids are discussed. Next, boiling heat transfer, CHF phenomena, and the relevant physical mechanisms are explored. Finally, future research needs have been identified according to the review and analysis. As the first priority, the physical properties of nanofluids have a significant effect on the boiling and CHF characteristics but the lack of the accurate knowledge of the physical properties has greatly limited the studies. Fundamentals of boiling heat transfer and CHF phenomena with nanofluids have not yet been well understood. Flow regimes are important in understanding the boiling and CHF phenomena and should be focused on. Two-phase pressure drops of nanofluids should also be studied. Furthermore, economic evaluation of the enhancement technology with nanofluid should be considered for the new heat transfer enhancement technology with nanofluids. Finally, applied research should be targeted to achieve an enabling practical heat transfer and CHF enhancement technology for engineering application with nanofluids.

Abstract:Context: Industrial production and humans cannot exist without energy, but the low efficiency of the heat transfer in the excessive use of energy is the most significant aspect of energy saving and emission reduction. Molecular dynamics simulation methods are devoted to simulate the heat transfer efficiency of a nanofluid system with different particle sizes, and the heat transfer enhancement mechanism of the nanofluid is simulated and studied from a microscopic perspective. The analysis showed that as nanoparticle size increases, the thermal conductivity of the Al-Ar nanofluid tends to decrease, but all of them are still higher than the thermal conductivity of the liquid argon system. According to the findings of the density and radial distribution function analyses, it can be seen that the microstructure of the system changes after putting solid nanoparticles to the original fluid. This alteration in the system's microstructure is the primary component responsible for the increased heat transfer efficiency of nanofluids. Methods: In this paper, based on the theory of molecular dynamics, the simulation calculations were mainly performed using LAMMPS software, which is a commonly used open source computational program in the field of MD simulation research. VMD is used for visualization and analysis. The Lennard-Jones potential function was used in the simulation to accurately describe the forces acting between the atoms.

Abstract:In recent years,research on nanofluids has become a hot topic in multi-disciplinary areas with especially major progresses made in the measurement of fluid properties,interpretation of flow and heat transfer mechanisms and innovative applications of the nanofluid.In this article,several latest enlightening works such as heat pipe using nanofluid as working medium,nano-droplet particles based nano fluid,nano-liquid metal fluid and nanofluid control by way of photothermal nanoparticles were comprehensively reviewed.Important scientific issues raised were summarized and some novel possible applications were pointed out.

Abstract:Nanofluids have evoked extensive interest from researchers around the globe due to their distinctive thermo-physical properties and numerous potential benefits and applications in important fields such as energy, aerospace, electronics, vehicles and biomedicine. This paper summarizes the latest research about the heat transfer characteristics, fluid characteristics, and its influencing factors, influencing rules, and influencing mechanisms of nanofluids. It summarized the preparation, stability, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, light absorption characteristics and photothermal conversion performance of nanofluids based on the categories and influencing factors of nanofluids, and analyzed their laws and mechanisms. The purpose of this paper is to summarizes the latest research findings in the open literature on nanofluids, so that researchers in the field of energy conversion have a more detailed and clear understanding of the energy conversion properties and applications of nanofluids.

Abstract:Nanofluids are a new class of fluids engineered by dispersing nanometer-size solid particles in base fluids. As a new research frontier, nanofluid two-phase flow and thermal physics have the potential to improve heat transfer and energy efficiency in thermal management systems for many applications, such as microelectronics, power electronics, transportation, nuclear engineering, heat pipes, refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems. So far, the study of nanofluid two-phase flow and thermal physics is still in its infancy. This field of research provides many opportunities to study new frontiers but also poses great challenges. To summarize the current status of research in this newly developing interdisciplinary field and to identify the future research needs as well, this paper focuses on presenting a comprehensive review of nucleate pool boiling, flow boiling, critical heat flux, condensation and two-phase flow of nanofluids. Even for the limited studies done so far, there are some controversies. Conclusions and contradictions on the available nanofluid studies on physical properties, two-phase flow, heat transfer and critical heat flux (CHF) are presented. Based on a comprehensive analysis, it has been realized that the physical properties of nanofluids such as surface tension, liquid thermal conductivity, viscosity and density have significant effects on the nanofluid two-phase flow and heat transfer characteristics but the lack of the accurate knowledge of these physical properties has greatly limited the study in this interdisciplinary field. Therefore, effort should be made to contribute to the physical property database of nanofluids as a first priority. Secondly, in particular, research on nanofluid two-phase flow and heat transfer in microchannels should be emphasized in the future.

Abstract:Increasing the heat transfer rate of heat transfer equipment is an ever-lasting topic in thermal engineering. Due to the advantages of light weight, high specific surface, high thermal conductivity, metal foam is a good extending surface for heat transfer enhancement. Nanofluid has a higher thermal conductivity than the traditional base fluid, so it can be used as an efficient heat transfer medium. This paper focuses on various flow and heat transfer modes of nanofluid, metal foam and the combination of the two, with the physical properties of nanofluid and metal foam summarized. The characteristics of flow and heat transfer are introduced. The motivation of this review paper is to arouse the researchers to pay attention to the basic transport understandings for the heat transfer enhancement of nanofluids in porous media. The knowledge reviewed in this paper is useful for improving the performance of compact heat exchangers, and heat sinks for cooling electronics with porous media and nanofluids.

Abstract:Nanofluid is a suspension of nanoparticles which is promising heat transfer fluid in the heat transfer enhancement having a plethora of applications because of its superior thermal conductivity and rheological properties. This paper points out the previous studies and recent progress in the improvement of heat transfer using nanofluid. The recent progresses on preparation and enhancement of stability were reviewed. Thermophysical, heat transfer characteristics of nanofluid and different factors such as particle size, shape, surfactant, temperature, etc. on thermal conductivity were presented. The present study reveals potential applications by utilizing nanofluid such as heat exchanger, transportation cooling, refrigeration, electronic equipment cooling, transformer oil, industrial cooling, nuclear system, machining operation, solar energy and desalination, defense, etc. Few barriers and challenges were also addressed. Finally, the challenges and further research opportunities were presented.

Abstract:<p>As the continuing integration and size deflation of component dimensions in electronic circuits and increase in the number of transistors in modern microprocessor chips, especially for heat dissipation of micro/nano scale devise, traditionally used single phase fluid cannot meet the requirements for highly efficient heat transfer, which thus frequently results in the damage of electrical devices. Consequently, thermal conductivity enhancement of working fluids is of great significance for advanced thermal energy conservation and conversion. Nanofluids, which possess a superior thermal conductive performance, are studied towards an alternative to the traditionally used working fluids, have attracted ample attention within the past decades. In this paper, firstly, we summarized the recent progress in the preparation of nanofluids, in particular for a method involving a covalent concerning reorganization or generation; subsequently, the utilization of nanofluids in hitherto unsummerized micro/nano scale heat and mass transfer fields, especially for some chemistry relating applications were discussed. All works demonstrated in this review are aiming at clarifying the fact that advanced material technologies are required in preparation of recent nanofluids on the premise of continuing harsh energy transfer situation; on the other hand, nanofluids were also able to offer insights for novel micro/nano scale energy transportation which has not yet been reviewed before.</p>

Property of Water-Nanoparticle Flow and Heat Transfer in the Double-Tube Heat Exchanger with Nanofluid

Abstract:The three-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted to study the impact of Al2O3/water nanofluid on the flow property and heat transfer of a counter flow double-tube heat exchanger where a laminar flow of cold water is in the outer tube, and in the inner tube there is a turbulent flow of hot nanofluid with particle volume concentrations ranging from 0.05% to 3%. The effects of temperature, flow rate, and particle volume concentration on the property of nanofluid flow and heat transfer are explored. The results show that the friction factor decreases with the increase of temperature and flow rate, and the pressure drop increases with increasing particle volume concentration. The temperature of the nanofluid at the outlet first decreases rapidly with time and then increases gradually to a stable value. Along the flow direction, the temperature of nanofluid decreases slowly at x/D < 10, and the axial temperature gradient increases at the full development stage. At a constant Reynolds number, the lower the temperature or the larger the particle volume concentration, the stronger the heat transfer. The local heat transfer coefficient on the wall of the inner tube decreases rapidly after reaching the peak x/D = 2.3, and then increases slowly until the outlet. The particle number density decreases sharply at x/D < 5, and then slowly decreases, while the change of the geometric mean diameter of particles is just the opposite. Increasing the flow rate or the temperature will strengthen particle coagulation, resulting in the decrease of particle number density and the increase of geometric mean diameter of particles.
Numerical Research on Convective Heat Transfer and Resistance Characteristics of Turbulent Duct Flow Containing Nanorod-Based Nanofluids

Abstract:A coupled numerical model for nanorod-based suspension flow is constructed, and the convective heat transfer and resistance characteristics of the nanofluid duct flow are investigated. The numerical results are verified by experimental results and theoretical models. Most of nanorods are located randomly in the bulk fluid, while particles near the wall aligned with the flow direction. Friction factor of nanofluids with nanorods increases with higher particle volume concentration or aspect ratio, but the increment reduces when the Reynolds number gets larger. The relative Nusselt number is obtained to characterize the intensity of convective heat transfer. The results show that the Nusselt number of nanofluids increases when the particle volume concentration or aspect ratio becomes larger. Compared to increasing the aspect ratio of nanorods, increasing the particle volume concentration would be more effective on enhancing the convective heat transfer intensity in industrial applications although it will cause a slight increase of resistance.

Abstract:The initial explosion of interest in the opportunities created by the ready availability of nanoscale particles of a variety of materials generated many claims for potential applications of their suspensions in liquids in the context of enhanced heat transfer. Calmer, objective reflection prompted by more careful experimentation and simulation has revealed that most of these claims were ill-founded. This paper explores some of the opportunities that may yet lead to real applications in the particular context of fluid heat transfer. In order to provide an appropriate direction for future studies, we show here there are some special situations in which the modest enhancement of the apparent thermal conductivity that can be achieved by nanofluids over the base fluid may be sufficient to be technically useful. In addition, we consider what is almost the opposite circumstance where, instead of exploiting the enhancement of the heat transfer between fluid and solid particles, processes use the poor heat transfer between the two phases to drive phase changes within the fluid phase itself. Abstract:Numerical research on convective heat transfer and resistance characteristics of TiO2/water nanofluids with cylindrical particles in laminar channel flow are performed by solving the governing equations of fluid flow with the additional term of cylindrical nanoparticles, the equation of probability density functions for cylindrical nanoparticle orientation, and general dynamics equation for nanoparticle volume concentration. The nonuniformity of nanoparticle distribution is considered and the effects of both particle volume concentration and Reynolds number on friction factor and local Nusselt number are mainly analyzed. The results show that the friction factor of nanofluid flow increases with an increase in particle volume concentration. And the friction factor decreases with increasing Reynolds number and is not dependent on the volume concentration at high Reynolds numbers. The Nusselt number declines when the Reynolds number decreases, and finally approaches an asymptotic value after the Reynolds number falls to a certain value. The Nusselt number is higher in the entrance region than at the downstream locations, and will become steady at somewhere downstream when the flow is thermally and hydraulically developed.

Abstract:First, in this paper, nanofluids are prepared by a two‐step method, and the factors affecting their stability, thermal conductivity, viscosity, and density are analyzed to provide theoretical references for enhancing the heat transfer of nanofluids. Second, this paper determines the thermal conductivity, viscosity, and density of the nanofluids and discusses the factors affecting their physical properties. In this study, three nanofluids, CuO, SiC, and TiO2, are prepared by a two‐step method, and the factors affecting the stability, thermal conductivity, viscosity and density of the three are analyzed, so as to provide theoretical reference for strengthening heat transfer of the nanofluids. First, the effects of different dispersant addition amounts, magnetic stirring time, and ultrasonic oscillation time on the stability of nanofluids are analyzed in this paper, and finally chose the best solution for preparing three nanofluids. Second, the paper determines the thermal conductivity, viscosity, and density of three kinds of nanofluids and explores the factors affecting their physical properties. The thermal conductivity of the three nanofluids at the highest temperature is 2.9, 3.2, and 1.4 times that of the lowest temperature, respectively. When the temperature increased from 25 to 65 °C, the viscosity of CuO nanofluids decreases the most at different volume concentrations, and the viscosity decreases by 41.3% at 0.6% volume concentration. The density of nanofluids decreases with the increase of temperature and increases with the increase of volume concentration. At 25 °C, the density of SiC nanofluid increases the most with the volume concentration, and its density increases by 0.72%.

Abstract:A new generation of efficient heat transfer and cooling technologies has been studied by researchers since the 1990s due to the rise of nanotechnology. In 1995, Professor S.U.S. The idea of 'nanofluids' was first proposed by Choi from the Aragon National Laboratory in the United States, which combines nanotechnology with traditional thermal engineering in an innovative way. Enhanced heat transfer is a field where nanofluid technology has broad application prospects and potential significant economic value, and is known as the 'future cooling and heat dissipation technology'. The theme of this article is the principles, preparation processes, and application fields of micro-nano fluids. The research on nanofluids still needs to be carried out. Due to their unique thermal conductivity properties, they can theoretically be widely used in fields such as industry, energy, aerospace, automobiles, air conditioning and refrigeration, electronics, etc. The aim of this study is to examine the heat conduction principle of nanofluids, the basic preparation process, and some applications of nanofluids in the field of enhanced heat conduction.
