Abstract:With wavelet technology used more widely in GPS deformation analysis, the paper will talk multi-wavelet (the second generation wavelet) theory used for GPS deformation monitoring data analysis. Due to multi-wavelet has a short branch set, orthogonal, symmetric (antisymmetric) and two order approximation characteristics, in the same filter length, using multiple wavelet on deformation monitoring signal can obtain better denoising effect than traditional wavelet. The paper studies signal adopting different preprocessing methods, makes a study of the selection problem in multi-wavelet preprocessing method. The GPS deformation monitoring signal is disposed using different multi-wavelet which adopts optima preprocessing method, and the paper makes a comparison to the conventional odd wavelet. The result confirms: multi-wavelet is more superiority than conventional wavelet, which decreases RMSE, advances SNR, obtains higher analytic precision, conforms the validity and practicability in physical problem, and offers a new road for deformation monitoring signal process

Abstract:In this paper, the de-noising problem of night vision images is studied for apple harvesting robots working at night. The wavelet threshold method is applied to the de-noising of night vision images. Due to the fact that the choice of wavelet threshold function restricts the effect of the wavelet threshold method, the fuzzy theory is introduced to construct the fuzzy threshold function. We then propose the de-noising algorithm based on the wavelet fuzzy threshold. This new method can reduce image noise interferences, which is conducive to further image segmentation and recognition. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, we conducted simulation experiments and compared the median filtering and the wavelet soft threshold de-noising methods. It is shown that this new method can achieve the highest relative PSNR. Compared with the original images, the median filtering de-noising method and the classical wavelet threshold de-noising method, the relative PSNR increases 24.86%, 13.95%, and 11.38% respectively. We carry out comparisons from various aspects, such as intuitive visual evaluation, objective data evaluation, edge evaluation and artificial light evaluation. The experimental results show that the proposed method has unique advantages for the de-noising of night vision images, which lay the foundation for apple harvesting robots working at night.

Abstract:The satellite transponder is a widely used module in satellite missions, and the most concerned issue is to reduce the noise of the transferred signal. Otherwise, the telemetry signal will be polluted by the noise contained in the transferred signal, and the additional power will be consumed. Therefore, a method based on wavelet packet de-noising (WPD) is introduced. Compared with other techniques, there are two features making WPD more suitable to be applied to satellite transponders: one is the capability to deal with time-varying signals without any priori information of the input signals; the other is the capability to reduce the noise in band, even if the noise overlaps with signals in the frequency domain, which provides a great de-noising performance especially for wideband signals. Besides, an oscillation detector and an averaging filter are added to decrease the partial oscillation caused by the thresholding process of WPD. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce more noises and make less distortions of the signals than other techniques. In addition, up to 12 dB additional power consumption can be reduced at 10 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Abstract:Genetic algorithm (GA) based on wavelet transform threshold shrinkage (WTS) and translation-invariant threshold shrinkage (TIS) is introduced into the method of noise reduction, where parameters used in WTS and TIS, such as wavelet function, decomposition levels, hard or soft threshold and threshold can be selected automatically. This paper ends by comparing two noise reduction methods on the basis of their denoising performances, computation time, etc. The effectiveness of these methods introduced in this paper is validated by the results of analysis of the simulated and real signals.

Abstract:Focusing on the new generation of GPS profile signal and geometric error component characteristics,the paper introduces a non-stationary signal analysis new approach———Hilbert-Huang Transform( HHT) for profile filtering and geometric error components analysis. Characteristics of Intrinsic Mode Function( IMF) of HHT is studied. Pointed out that each order IMF component characteristic time scales from small to high order,on this basis,EMD-based filter constructor is poprosed. Studied the characteristics of the remaining items,according to instantaneous frequency and amplitude function of each order IMF and the Hilbert-Huang spectrum,this paper determines the cyclical component as well as non-periodic trend term. The geometric error simulation signal analysis results show that,compared with wavelet neural network method,the HHT method to obtain the initial phase of the signal is better. Profile curve analysis results show that,the use of HHT and wavelet transform filtering experimental verification,profile curve obtained using the HHT method is the smoother.

Abstract:Signal denoising is an important problem in the field of fault diagnosis of electromechanical equipment. For the wavelet coefficients of noises are trending towards zero rapidly as the scale increasing, the denoising methods based on wavelet transform have been widely researched. The construction of undecimated second generation wavelet transform (USGWT) was studied and the calculating formulas of its predicting and updating operators in time domain were given. Furthermore, the computational complexity of both second generation wavelet transform (SGWT) and undecimated second generation wavelet transform was analyzed and a signal denoising method using undecimated second generation wavelet transform was proposed. Owing to the approximate and detail coefficients at each level after decomposition using undecimated wavelet transform have the same length as the original signal, the transform can possess time invariant property and retain more characteristics in time domain, and therefore improve the effect of denoising. The simulated signal and real-life signal were used to test this method. It was shown that the presented method is effective for signal denoising and the fault feature of original signal can be desirably retained.

Abstract:In the denoising method proposed,wavelet transform coefficients on each level were separated into two sorts according to their correlation between the coefficients on the level and on its adjacent level,namely,the efficient co- efficients and the unefficient coefficients.Then the coefficients of the two sorts were processed,following corresponding rules respectively.The unefficient coefficients were directly set into zero,while local neighborhood statistical distribution of the efficient coefficients was assumed to be submit to Laplace model.Under such prior distribution,maximum a posteri- ori (MAP) estimator was used to restore the wavelet coefficients from the noisy observations,and new wavelet coefficients were used to reconstruct the denoised signal.Analyzing results show that the method can effectively denoise signal and im- prove the signal-to-noise ratio better than the traditional denoising method like hard-threshold and soft threshold.

Abstract:Random noise inevitability affects positioning accuracy for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements. For effectual elimination of the noise mixed in the coordinate series, this paper proposes applying the empirical wavelet transform (EWT) method, which has the multi-scale decomposition capability identical to the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method. EWT adaptively constructs the wavelet basis functions, divides the different signal modes by designing appropriate wavelet filters, and provides a complete mathematical theory. Compared to EMD, EWT exhibits higher calculation efficiency, sufficient theory, and an excellent adaptation capability. Thus, this paper analyzes and compares EWT with EMD and its improved version. The experimental results demonstrate that the EWT method has no frequency liaising phenomenon that characterizes EMD, and the signal after EWT noise reduction is quite close to the original. The measured data reveals that the noise reduction effect of EWT is superior to EMD and its improved version.

Abstract:The application of wavelet analysis in processing GPS monitoring data of tailings ponds deformation was studied.Based on the summarizing common questions about GPS monitoring data of tailings ponds deformation,the flowchart of processing GPS monitoring data of tailings ponds deformation with wavelet analysis was presented,the process of the wavelet threshold denoising was discussed and the method for determining related parameters was presented.Furthermore,the influence of the abnormal values on the data processing of the tailings dam deformation was discussed and a real-time method of the wavelet analysis was presented.Finally,an interactive platform for on-line monitoring tailings ponds was implemented base on configuration software and used in practice,the results verified the feasibility and effectiveness of this research.

Abstract:Side-scan sonar technology has been widely used as a major submarine detection method.However,the image noise through strictly improved still can't be eliminated completely,which decreases the accuracy of image interpretation.Four methods are examined to reduce or eliminate the side-scan sonar image noise,including directional diffusion based on the partial differential equations,regularization PM(AOS algorithm),directional diffusion based on discrete wavelet,directional diffusion based on lifting wavelet.Compared with traditional methods,such as mean filtering,median filtering,Wiener filtering,wavelet soft threshold,hard threshold and Bayesian method of estimating threshold,it is found that the directional diffusion based on lifting wavelet method can not only improve the PSNR,but also maintain smoothness index and edge-preserving index.It is more suitable for side-scan sonar image denoising.

Abstract:When user jerk increases,the estimation errors of both carrier Doppler smoothed pseudoranges based positioning and wavelet de-noising applied directly to track smoothing will become larger.A novel track smoothing method based on wavelet de-noising is proposed in this paper to solve these problems.Differential of the position estimations based on code generated pseudoranges and carrier Doppler smoothed pseudoranges is calculated.After wavelet de-noising of the differential,the sum of the result and the carrier Doppler smoothed pseudoranges based positioning is used as the smoothing result.Simulation result shows that estimation bias of the proposed method is less than 0.04 m and the standard deviation is less than 1.3 m when the user maximum jerk is 50 m/s3.
An Improved Algorithm of Real Time Cycle Slip Detection and Determination of Multi-frequency GNSS Measurements Combining Wavelet Transform and Kalman Filter

Abstract:With the development of the multi-frequency GNSS, positioning process using carrier phase observations will be more and more popular especially for high precision positioning. Based on the analysis of the causes and characteristics of GPS cycle slip, an adaptive detection and modification algorithm is proposed using the wavelet threshold de-noising theory. The original double difference of GPS carrier-phase is transformed with wavelet, and the singular values in the high-frequency coefficients are replaced by linear interpolation. Then the signal is reconstructed with the replaced high-frequency coefficients and the original low-frequency parts. The difference between the reconstructed signal and the original one is applied for cycle slip detection. The time and correction value of cycle slip are determined by the modulus maxima of the difference signal. Finally, an experiment was taken to test the method, and it shows that the method is effective for detecting and modifying the cycle slips of minimum value of one cycle, with minimum interval of one epoch. The measurements without cycle slips are processed with an improved Kalman filter to get more accurate positioning results.
A data-driven approach for denoising GNSS position time series

Abstract:Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) datasets suffer from common mode error (CME) and other unmodeled errors. To decrease the noise level in GNSS positioning, we propose a new data-driven adaptive multiscale denoising method in this paper. Both synthetic and real-world long-term GNSS datasets were employed to assess the performance of the proposed method, and its results were compared with those of stacking filtering, principal component analysis (PCA) and the recently developed multiscale multiway PCA. It is found that the proposed method can significantly eliminate the high-frequency white noise and remove the low-frequency CME. Furthermore, the proposed method is more precise for denoising GNSS signals than the other denoising methods. For example, in the real-world example, our method reduces the mean standard deviation of the north, east and vertical components from 1.54 to 0.26, 1.64 to 0.21 and 4.80 to 0.72 mm, respectively. Noise analysis indicates that for the original signals, a combination of power-law plus white noise model can be identified as the best noise model. For the filtered time series using our method, the generalized Gauss–Markov model is the best noise model with the spectral indices close to − 3, indicating that flicker walk noise can be identified. Moreover, the common mode error in the unfiltered time series is significantly reduced by the proposed method. After filtering with our method, a combination of power-law plus white noise model is the best noise model for the CMEs in the study region.

Abstract:High-resolution seismic imaging requires noise attenuation to achieve signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) improvements without compromising data bandwidth. Amplitude versus offset analysis requires good amplitude fidelity in premigration processes. Any nonreflected wavefield energy in the data will degrade the seismic image quality. Despite significant progress over the years, preserving low-frequency signals without compromising the S/N and avoiding the smearing of aliased signal are still a challenge for conventional methods. This problem is compounded when additional interference noise is added with simultaneous source acquisition. Because noise characteristics vary from shot to shot and receiver to receiver, we need a method that is robust and effective. In addition, we also want the method to be efficient and easy to use from a practical perspective. We have recently developed an approach using a wavelet transform to deterministically separate the primary signal from the noise, including simultaneous source interference. The goals are (1) improving the S/N without compromising bandwidth, (2) preserving the low-frequency and near-offset primaries without compromising the S/N, and (3) preserving the local primary wavefield while attenuating noise. For distance-separated simultaneous source acquisition, the goal is preserving long-offset primaries while removing interference. This wavelet denoising flow consists of a linear transformation and filtering using the complex wavelet transform (CWT). For reflection signals, normal moveout (NMO) is used. NMO transforms the low-velocity surface waves and the interference noise to where it is easily identified and rejected with a dip filter in the multidimensional CWT domain. Land field data examples have demonstrated significantly improved S/Ns and low-frequency signal preservation in migrated images after wavelet denoising. Since the numerical implementation of the CWT is as fast as a fast Fourier transform, this flow is able to suppress noise and interference simultaneously on the 3D land data much faster than the other inversion methods.

Abstract:The random noise is the kind of noise with wide frequency band in seismic data detected by the optical acceleration sensors. The noises influence and destroy the useful signal of the seismic information. There are a lot of methods to remove noise and one of the standard methods to remove the noise of the signal was the fast Fourier transform (FFT) which was the linear Fourier smoothing. In this paper, the novel denoising method based on wavelet analysis was introduced. The denoising results of seismic data with the noise with FFT method and wavelet analysis method, respectively. SNRs of the signal with noise, FFT denoisng and wavelet analysis denoising are-8.69, -1.13, and 8.27 respectively. The results show that the wavelet analysis method is prior to the traditional denoising method. The resolution of the seismic data improves.

Abstract:In this paper, we address the problem of interference cancellation in global positioning system (GPS) receiver using a two-step approach: subspace projection technique and maximum signal-to-noise ratio (MSNR) beamforming. The interference signals can be effectively suppressed by projecting the received signal on the noise subspace. Here noise subspace tracking algorithm is employed to estimate the noise subspace directly. We then apply a beamformer to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio of the interference-free signal. Simulation results show that our approach can effectively eliminate the strong interference and enhance the performance of the GPS receiver.

Abstract:Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) provides a novel means for deformation monitoring, which is an important guarantee for structures. Accurately separating its linear and nonlinear signals, and noise in GNSS time series is the foundation for analyzing deformation mechanisms and the prerequisite for assessing the status. However, extracting deformation signals is a challenging obstacle to applying GNSS for deformation monitoring. Aimed at that, a new method is proposed in this study. Fine-tuning the window size and threshold of the Hampel filter through grid search allows for initial anomaly detection and correction. Optimizing the K parameter of the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm via rigorous K-Fold Cross-Validation ensures further smoothing of the filtered data, which overcomes the limitations of the Hampel filter in handling continuous anomalies. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method improves performance by approximately 62% compared to traditional methods and by around 40% relative to IQR and other methods. This study presents an effective approach for detecting and eliminating outliers in GNSS deformation monitoring, offering noteworthy theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract:The monitoring of micro-defects or external actions induced vacuum degradation in aerospace vacuum vessels is an important challenge. A vacuum-process monitoring method based on quasi-distributed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing technology is proposed. Due to the influence of environmental noise and vacuum pump operation noise, the raw signals measured by FBG sensors contain a large amount of noises, which affects the measurement accuracy and data analysis. Therefore, the wavelet threshold denoising method is proposed to analyze the influence of noises on the monitoring signals measured by two different kinds of FBG sensors. The evaluation of the monitoring signals after denoising indicates that the proposed method can effectively remove the noise and significantly improve signal quality. The highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the processed signals can reach 37.61 dB and the mean square error (MSE) is 3.68×10-7, while retaining the key features of the original signal. The proposed wavelet threshold denoising method demonstrates better performance and feasibility compared with moving average filtering and Kalman filtering methods. The study provides critical supports for improving the performance and reliability of the vacuum vessel monitoring system.
