Abstract:Nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC produce high temperature and high energy density matter which exhibits partonic degrees of freedom. We will discuss measurements of nuclear modification factors for light hadrons and non-photonic electrons from heavy quark decays, which reflect the flavor dependence of energy loss of high momentum partons traversing the dense QCD medium. The hadronization of bulk partonic matter exhibits collectivity in effective partonic degrees of freedom. Nuclear collisions at RHIC provide an intriguing environment, where many constituent quark ingredients are readily available for possible formation of exotic particles through quark coalescences or recombinations.

Abstract:The double-slit experiment has become a classic thought experiment for its clarity in expressing the central puzzle of quantum mechanics-wave-particle complementarity. Such wave-particle duality continues to be challenged and investigated in a broad range of entities with electrons, neutrons, helium atoms, C-60 fullerenes, Bose-Einstein condensates, and biological molecules. In this Rapid Communication, we present a double-slit scenario at Fermi scale with new entities-coherent photon products in heavy-ion collisions. Virtual photons from the electromagnetic fields of relativistic heavy ions can fluctuate to quark-antiquark pairs, scatter off a target nucleus, and emerge as vector mesons. The two colliding nuclei can take turns to act as targets, forming a double-slit interference pattern. Furthermore, the "which-way" information can be partially solved using sufficiently-high multiplicity heavy-ion collisions so that the reaction plane can be determined, which demonstrates the complementary principle, a key concept of quantum mechanics.

Abstract:We study the two-pion Hanbury Brown–Twiss correlation functions for a partially coherent source constructed with the emission points and momenta of the identical pions generated by a multiphase transport model. A coherent emission length is introduced, the effects of which on the two-pion interferometry results in central Au-Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV, central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV, and p-p collisions at s=13 TeV are investigated. It is found that the effect of coherent emission length reduces the two-pion correlation functions in the nucleus–nucleus collisions, leading to an average decrease of chaoticity parameter by approximately 15% in the high transverse momentum range. However, the influence of coherent emission length on the two-pion correlation functions in the p-p collisions is small, while the effect of coherent emission length on the chaoticity parameter is almost independent of the transverse momentum of pion pair in the p-p collisions.

Medium-Assisted Enhancement of $X(3872)$ Production from Small to Large Colliding Systems

Abstract:Studies of exotic hadrons such as the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$ state provide crucial insights into the fundamental force governing the strong interaction dynamics, with an emerging new frontier to investigate their production in high energy collisions where a partonic medium is present. Latest experimental measurements from the Large Hadron Collider show an intriguing evolution pattern of the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$-to-$\psi(2S)$ yield ratio from proton-proton collisions with increasing multiplicities toward proton-lead and lead-lead collisions. Here we propose a novel mechanism of medium-assisted enhancement for the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$ production, which competes with the more conventional absorption-induced suppression and results in a non-monotonic trend from small to large colliding systems. Realistic simulations from this model offer the first quantitative description of all available data. Predictions are made for the centrality dependence of this observable in PbPb collisions as well as for its system size dependence from OO and ArAr to XeXe and PbPb collisions. In both cases, a non-monotonic behavior emerges as the imprint of the competition between enhancement and suppression and can be readily tested by future data.

Abstract:We show that particle species dependence of enhanced hadron production at intermediate transverse momentum (p_{T}) for d+Au collisions at RHIC can be understood in terms of the hadronic rescatterings in the final state. A multiphase transport model (AMPT) with two different hadronization mechanisms: string fragmentation or parton coalescence, is used in our study. When the hadrons are formed from string fragmentation, the subsequent hadronic rescatterings will result in particle mass dependence of nuclear modification factor R_{CP}, which is consistent with the present experimental data. On the other hand, in the framework of parton coalescence, the mass dependence disappears and the strangeness plays an important role. Both mechanisms failed to reproduce the p_{T} dependence of R_{CP} of pion, indicating that initial-state effects might be also important in such collisions.

Abstract:We illustrate how a generalization of the JIMWLK formalism which treats independently the direct and complex conjugate amplitudes can be used to describe semi-inclusive multiparticle production with rapidity correlations in pA collisions. The evolution equations that are obtained with this formalism are susceptible of numerical implementation as a Langevin process.

Abstract:Collider experiments provide an opportunity to produce particles at close distances and momenta. The measured correlation functions between particles can provide information on both the effective emission source and the interaction potential. In recent years, experiments at the LHC have shown that precision studies of the strong interaction are possible using correlation techniques, provided a good handle on the source function. The current work presents a new numerical framework called Common Emission in CATS (CECA), capable of simulating the effective emission source of an N-body system based on the properties of the single particles. The framework differentiates between primordial particle emission and particle production through resonances, allowing to verify the hypothesis proposed by the ALICE collaboration that a common baryon-baryon emission source is present in small collision systems. The new framework is used to analyze ALICE data on pp and p$\Lambda$ correlations and compare the results to previous studies based on the common emission source scenario. It is demonstrated that the best fit to the p$\Lambda$ correlation data is obtained using a scattering length of $1.15\pm0.07$ fm in the S=1 channel.

Abstract:The normalized multiplicity moments and their relation with soft and hard processes in relativistic heavy ion collisions are analyzed in a general two-component model. It is found that the strong fluctuations in the binary collision number N-c in minimum-bias events can enhance the hard component, especially for the higher order moments. This enhancement cannot be effectively described by modifying the participant number in the one-component model.

Abstract:Angular distributions of charged particles produced in 16O and 32S collisions with nuclear track emulsion were studied at momenta 4.5 and 200 A GeV/c. Comparison with the angular distributions of charged particles produced in proton-nucleus collisions at the same momentum allows to draw the conclusion, that the angular distributions in nucleus-nucleus collisions can be seen as superposition of the angular distributions in nucleon-nucleus collisions taken at the same impact parameter bNA, that is mean impact parameter between the participating projectile nucleons and the center of the target nucleus
Initial-state and final-state effects on hadron production in small collision systems

Abstract:Heavy meson production in reactions with nuclei is an active new frontier to understand QCD dynamics and the process of hadronization in nuclear matter. Measurements in various colliding systems at RHIC and LHC, including Pb-Pb, Xe-Xe, O-O, p-Pb, and p-O, enable precision tests of the medium-size, temperature, and mass dependencies of the in-medium parton propagation and shower formation. We employ a coupled DGLAP evolution framework that takes advantage of splitting functions recently obtained in soft-collinear effective theory with Glauber gluons (SCET$_{\rm G}$) and hard thermal loop (HTL) motivated collisional energy loss effects. With jet quenching effects constrained to the nuclear modification factor of charged hadrons in Pb-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, we present predictions for light and heavy-meson in Xe-Xe, O-O and p-Pb collisions at the LHC. We find that the nuclear modification scales non-trivially with the quark mass and medium properties. In particular, there can be sizeable collision-induced attenuation of heavy mesons in small systems such as oxygen-oxygen and high-multiplicity p-Pb events. Finally, we analyze the impact of different models of initial-state parton dynamics on the search for QGP signatures in small colliding systems.

Abstract:It has been theorized that if heavy nuclei (e.g. Au, Pb) are collided at sufficiently high energies, we might be to recreate the conditions that existed in the universe a few microseconds after the Big Bang. The kinetic energy of the colliding nuclei gets converted into heat, leading to a phase transition into a new state of matter: the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), in which quarks and gluons are deconfined. However, we never directly get to see the QGP because as the matter cools it recombines (hadronizes) into ordinary subatomic particles. We can only hope to infer its existence from indirect experimental signatures, after hadronization. In this dissertation we attempt to shed some light on: Properties of the final state of produced matter in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV. As the hot, dense system of particles from the collision zone cools and expands, light nuclei like deuterons and anti-deuterons can be formed, with a probability proportional to the product of the phase space densities of its constituent nucleons. Thus, invariant yield of deuterons, compared to the protons and neutrons from which they coalesce, provides information about the size of the emitting system and its space-time evolution. The initial conditions that led to this. This is done by looking at the nuclear modification factor $R_{cp}$ from particle production in forward and backward directions in a ``control'' experiment using d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV. This can allow us to distinguish between effects that could potentially be due to deconfinement, versus effects of cold nuclear matter.

Universal Property of Multifragmentation in Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

Abstract:We have used the bond percolation model to study the multifragmentation of Au-197 projectiles after collisions with a Cu target at an incident energy of 600 MeV/nucleon. The charge correlations have been analysed. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental data of the ALADIN collaboration. This shows that the percolation model can reasonably describe the universal property of nuclear fragmentation in nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Abstract:Nuclear modification factors R-cp of protons and pions are investigated by simulating Au+Au collisions from 0.8A to 1.8A GeV in a framework of an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. The Rcp of protons rise with an increase in the transverse particle momentum pT at different beam energies owing to radial flow and the multiple-collision effect. The rate of increase of Rcp is suppressed at higher beam energies. While the Rcp of pions display weaker pT dependence. By changing the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section, the Rcp of protons change a lot, while the Rcp of pions do not. In addition, by deactivating the N Delta -> NN and pi N -> Delta channels, the Rcp of protons change slightly in their increasing rates compared with the "original" case (with these two channels). However, the Rcp of pions is shifted down for the "no N Delta -> NN" case and has an inverse trend for the "no pi N -> Delta" case. Based on these observations, we argue that the observable Rcp is a suitable tool to better distinguish in-medium effects of protons and pions.

Abstract:In heavy-ion collisions, understanding how light nuclei species are produced can provide insight into the nature of hadronic interactions in extreme conditions. It can also shed light on understanding the matter-antimatter asymmetry and dark matter searches in astrophysical processes. To investigate the production mechanism of light nuclei such as deuteron, triton, and helium-3, we use a naive coalescence afterburner coupled to the well-known $``$A Multi-Phase Transport model" (AMPT). We focus on studying the production of light nuclei in central Au+Au collisions at different center of mass energies ($\sqrt{s_{_{\rm{NN}}}}$ = 19.6, 39, and 200 GeV) and in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm{NN}}}}$ = 2.76 TeV, at mid-rapidity. We generate events with the string melting version of AMPT, and feed the information of the nucleons with spatial and momentum conditions into the coalescence afterburner. Our study reports differential and integrated yields in transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) of the light nuclei in different center of mass energies. We also estimate the coalescence parameters ($B_A$) as a function of $p_{\rm{T}}$ and collision energy for (anti-)deuterons, tritons and helium-3s for Au+Au and Pb+Pb collisions, which are compared to other light nuclei production studies. All results are compared with measurements from the STAR and ALICE experiments.

Abstract:We investigate the role of partonic degrees of freedom in high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV carried out at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by studying the production and collective flow of identified hadrons at intermediate p(T) via the coalescence of soft partons from the viscous hydrodynamics (VISH2 + 1) and hard partons from the energy loss model, linear Boltzmann transport (LBT). We find that combining these intermediate p(T) hadrons with the low p(T) hadrons from the hydrodynamically expanding fluid and high p(T) hadrons from the fragmentation of quenched jets, the resulting hydro-dynamicscoalescence-fragmentation model provides a nice description of measured p(T) spectra and differential elliptic flow v(2)(p(T)) of pions, kaons, and protons over the p(T) range from 0 to 6 GeV. We further demonstrate the necessity of including the quark coalescence contribution to reproduce the experimentally observed approximate number of constituent quark scaling of hadron v(2) at intermediate p(T). Our results thus indicate the importance of partonic degrees of freedom and also hint at the possible formation of quark-gluon plasma in high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions at the LHC.
Multiple rescattering effects in the hard knockout reaction $\mathbf{^2\mbox{H}(p,2p)n}$

Abstract:The interaction of a proton with a deuteron is the simplest nuclear reaction. However, it allows the study of precursors of nuclear medium effects such as initial-state/final-state interactions (ISI/FSI). In case of hard proton knockout, the deviation of ISI/FSI from the 'standard' values may carry a signal of color transparency. In this regard, it is important to define the 'standard' as precisely as possible. This work continues previous studies within the framework of the Generalized Eikonal Approximation (GEA). The focus is on processes where the participating protons experience multiple soft rescattering on the spectator neutron. It is shown that correct treatment of deviations of the trajectories of outgoing protons from the longitudinal direction leads to a significant modification of partial amplitudes with soft rescattering of two outgoing protons and non-vanishing amplitudes with rescattering of incoming and outgoing protons. The new treatment of multiple rescattering is important in kinematics with a forward spectator neutron.

Multiplicity Dependence of $D$ and $j/\psi$ Production in Small Collision Systems

Abstract:We discuss open heavy ﬂavor ( D -meson) and quarkonium ( J / ψ ) production in high multiplicity proton-proton ( p + p ) and proton-nucleus ( p + A ) collisions at the LHC in the impact parameter dependent saturation model. A key ingredient in our calculations is the ﬂuctuations of the gluon saturation scale at large- x at each impact parameter, reﬂecting rare parton conﬁgurations inside the projectile and target. Such initial state ﬂuctuations have been used to describe the multiplicity distribution of D -meson and J / ψ production yield at mid rapidity in small collision systems at the LHC. In these proceedings, we examine the rapidity dependence of J / ψ production and emphasize its importance in constraining initial state models of high multiplicity events in small systems. the yield at mid rapidity in p + A collisions for dN ch /(cid:104) dN ch (cid:105) > 2; while our model shows a small suppression, it does not capture that seen in the data. Whether this additional suppression can be simply accommodated or requires a signiﬁcant change in the model is under active investigation.
Systematic Behavior of K/Pi Ratio in Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

Abstract:A simple hadronic transport model is proposed for studying the rescattering effect of the pion on the K/pi ratio in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. The experimental evidences of evolutionary increase of the K/pi ratio from p + p to p + Au and to Si + Au at similar incident energy per nucleon are reproduced reasonably. Experimental results of the K/pi ratio at CERN energy (200 GeV/nucleon p + W and S + W) comparable with corresponding results at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron energy (14.6 GeV/nucleon p + Au and Si + Au) are reproduced as well.
The $p_T$-Spectra of Some Non-pion Secondaries in High Energy NN to NA/AA Collisions and the Combinational Approach

Abstract:In continuation of our perusal of the studies on transverse momentum spectra for the main varieties of secondaries from a consistent and comprehensive phenomenological approach, we propose to take up here -- after a successful completion of reporting in detail the results (Ref.[4] in the text) on our analyses of the $p_T$-spectra of pions -- the studies specially on production of kaons, protons and antiprotons in several proton-induced and nucleus-involved collisions at high energies. The measured data on inclusive cross sections of kaons, protons and antiprotons from the various published sources have here been assorted first. Next, data on the $p_T$-spectra of the specific secondaries produced in PP and $P\bar{P}$ reactions have been scanned and analyzed with the help of Hagedorn's model(HM). Thereafter a connector, named here the combinational approach(CA), has been constructed and used to analyze the data on $p_T$-spectra of some major category of non-pion secondaries produced in nucleus-nucleus(AA/AB) collisions at high energies. And these exercises have, finally, led to the modestly successful interpretations of a wide band of data with the revelation of some insightful physical aspects of high energy interactions. The limitations of the approach have also been precisely pointed out in the end.

We review the theoretical background, experimental techniques, and the phenomena presented and provided by the original Glauber model and experiment. Based on the original Glauber model, we change the data and algorithm to test and compare our model with the original results. Then we figure out the spatial eccentricity of quark gluon plasma in different models and analyze the progress in the Glauber model at collider energies.
