Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the quantum transport of a double quantum dotcoupled with a nanomechanical resonator at arbitrary strong electron-phononcoupling regimes. We employ the generalized quantum master equation to studyfull counting statistics of currents. We demonstrate the coherent phonon statesmethod can be applied to decouple the electron-phonon interactionnon-perturbatively. With the help of this non-perturbative treatment ofelectron-phonon couplings, we find that the phonon-assisted resonant tunnelingemerges when the excess energy from the left quantum dot to the right one canexcite integer number of phonons and multi-phonon excitations can enhance thetransport in strong electron-phonon coupling regime. Moreover, we find that asthe electron-phonon coupling increases, it first plays a constructive role toassist the transport, and then plays the role of scattering and stronglyrepresses the transport.

Abstract:We investigate the quantum transport of a double quantum dot coupled with a nanomechanical resonator at arbitrary electron-phonon coupling regimes. Generalized quantum master equation combined with Full Counting Statistics method is employed to study quantum current fluctuations. We demonstrate how coherent phonon states method can be used to decouple the electron-phonon interaction non-perturbatively. We also show the Full Counting Statistics of current in details to signify the non-Poissonion electron transport features in different dynamics regimes.

Abstract:The quantum oscillations of population in an optically driven asymmetrical double quantum dot device coupled to phonons are investigated theoretically and an analytical result is obtained. It shows that, even at zero temperature, the phonon effect is considerable. The Rabi frequency and tunneling rate between two dots are renormalized by a factor and its square, respectively. The ideal Rabi oscillation is changed into a beat pattern.

Abstract:The quantum dynamics of a strongly coupled single quantum dot-cavity system with non-zero detuning in a phonon bath is investigated theoretically in terms of a perturbation treatment based on a unitary transformation and an operator displacement. The decoherence due to phonons as a function of the detuning between the cavity mode and exciton is obtained analytically. It is shown that the detuning has a significant impact on the quantum dot exciton lifetime. In realistic experimental conditions, the calculated exciton lifetimes are in good agreement with recent experimental observation (Hennessy et al 2007 Nature 445 896).

Abstract:The quantum coherent oscillations in a coherently driven quantum dot-cavity system with the presence of strong exciton–phonon interactions are investigated theoretically in a fully quantum treatment. Abstract:: Within the framework of the second-order Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory, we investigate the effects of the interaction of the electron and longitudinal-optical phonons in two-dimensional semiconductive quantum dots with respect to a general potential. We propose a simple expression for the ground state energy, and compare it with those obtained by Landau-Pekar strong coupling theory. It is shown both analytically and numerically that the results obtained from the second-order Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory could be better than those from Landau-Pekar strong coupling theory when the coupling constant is sufficiently small. Moreover, some interesting problems, such as polarons in quasi-one-dimensional quantum wires, and quasi-zero-dimensional asymmetric or symmetric quantum dots can be easily discussed only by taking different limits. After the numerical calculations, we find that there exists a simple dimensional scaling and symmetry relation for the ground state polaron energy. Furthermore, we apply our results to some weak-coupling polar semiconductors such as GaAs, CdS. It is shown that the polaronic effects are found to be quiet appreciable if the confinement lengths and smaller than a few nanometers.

Abstract:The Berry phase of two coupled quantum dots is investigated. The coupled quantum dots are embedded in a high-Q single mode cavity and coupled to the common phonon fields. We show how the Berry phase depends on the environmental temperatures.

Abstract:The electron-phonon interaction has important effects on the nonequilibrium transport through the semiconductor quantum dot (QD) or the single molecule transistor. Based on the improved electron-phonon disentangled scheme and the equation of motion approach of the nonequilibrium Green functions, it is found that at low temperature, the phonon sidebands in the spectral function are quite sensitive to the relative positions of the renormalized QD level and the Fermi levels in the leads, showing the broken particle-hole symmetry in the QD. The phonon satellites of the Kondo peak come from two types of spin exchange processes. In the presence of moderate Zeeman splitting, these two types of Kondo satellites can be recognized in the spin resolved spectral function. These features of the spectral functions will also manifest themselves in the nonlinear differential conductance.

Abstract:Phonon effects in tunnelling through a double quantum dot moleculeare investigated by use of a recently developed technique, whichis based on an exact mapping of a many-body electron-phononinteraction problem onto a multichannel one-body problem. Themolecule is sandwiched between two ideal electrodes and theelectron at each dot of the molecule interacts independently withEinstein phonons. Single-electron transmission rates through themolecule are computed and the nonlinear spectrum obtained shows astructure with many more satellite peaks due to the excitations ofphonons. The strength of resonant peaks is found to be stronglydependent on the number of excited phonons. The effects ofelectron-phonon interaction on the current and shot noise,depending on the voltage bias applied at the two electrodes aswell as the potential energy of the molecule, are discussed.
Phonon-mediated spin dynamics in a two-electron double quantum dot under a phonon temperature gradient

Abstract:We have theoretically studied phonon-mediated spin-flip processes of electrons in a GaAs double quantum dot (DQD) holding two spins, under a phonon temperature gradient over the DQD. Transition rates of inter-dot phonon-assisted tunnel processes and intra-dot spin-flip processes involving spin triplet states are formalized by the electron-phonon interaction accompanied with the spin-orbit interaction. The calculations of the spin-flip rates and the occupation probabilities of the spin-states in the two-electron DQD with respect to the phonon temperature difference between the dots are quantitatively consistent with our previous experiment. This theoretical study on the temperature gradient effect onto spins in coupled QDs would be essential for understanding spin-related thermodynamic physics.

Abstract:For two coupled quantum dots within cavity QED, we show that the exciton–phonon interaction reduces the Rabi frequency and Förster interaction even at absolute zero temperature. The exciton–phonon interaction also makes an additional contribution to the static exciton–exciton dipole interaction energy.

Abstract:We study theoretically the heat generation by electric current in an interacting single level quantum-dot connected to ferromagnetic leads. The heat is transferred between the dot and the lattice vibration of its host material (phonon reservoir). Particular attention is paid on the heat's rectification effect achieved by properly arranging the dot level and the bias voltage. We find that this effect is remarkably enhanced when the two leads' magnetic moments are in antiparallel configuration, i.e., the magnitude of the heat generation is reduced (amplified) in the negative (positive) bias regime as compared to the cases of parallel configuration and nonmagnetic leads. The rectification effect is even enhanced when one of the lead's spin polarization approaches to unit, during which the negative differential of the heat generation is weakened due to the change of the spin-dependent electron occupation numbers on the dot. The found results may be used for thermal transistor in the newly emerged research subject of phononics.

Abstract:The dynamics of charge qubit in a double quantum dot coupled to phonons is investigated theoretically in terms of a perturbation treatment based on a unitary transformation. The dynamical tunneling current is Obtained explicitly. The decoherence induced by acoustic phonons is analyzed in detail after a derivation of spectral density. It is shown that the contribution from deformation potential coupling is comparable to that from piezoelectric coupling in small dots and large tunneling rates. A possible decoupling mechanism is predicted.

Abstract:Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in photonic nanocavities provide monolithic, robust platforms for both quantum information processing and cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). An inherent feature of such solid-state cavity QED systems is the presence of electron-phonon interactions, which distinguishes these systems from conventional atomic cavity QED. Understanding the effects of electron-phonon interactions on these systems is indispensable for controlling and exploiting the rich physics that they exhibit. Here we investigate the effects of electron-phonon interactions on a QD-based cavity QED system. When the QD and the cavity are off-resonance, we observe phonon-assisted cavity mode emission that strongly depends on the temperature and cavity-detuning. When they are on-resonance, we observe an asymmetric vacuum Rabi doublet, the splitting of which narrows with increasing temperature. These experimental observations can be well reproduced using a cavity QED model that includes electron-acoustic-phonon interactions. Our work provides significant insight into the important but hitherto poorly understood mechanism of non-resonant QD-cavity coupling and into the physics of various cavity QED systems utilizing emitters coupled to phonons, such as nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond and colloidal nanocrystals.

Abstract:The dynamics of a qubit in two different environments are investigatedtheoretically. The first environment is a two level system coupled to a bosonicbath. And the second one is a damped harmonic oscillator. Based on a unitarytransformation, we find that the decoherence of the qubit can be reduced withincreasing temperature T in the first case, which agree with the results in[Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 120401], whereas, it can not be reduced with T in thesecond case. In both cases, the qubit dynamics are changed substantially as thecoupling increases or finite detuning appears.
The temperature influence on quantum tunneling in the spin-boson model

Abstract:The existing studies of the temperature effect of the spin-boson model show that the tunneling splitting will increase with temperature, no matter how weak the couplings are between the bath and the spin. However, the small polaron theory said that in the weak coupling and low temperature regime, the tunneling is, in fact, dominated by the diagonal transitions whereas this diagonal contribution to the tunneling should be faded away with increasing temperature. Taking advantage of the analysis originated from the Feynman-Vernon's influence functional theory, the influence on the tunneling by the phonon bath can be expressed as a product of the effects of every single phonon mode, which can be studied by numerical exact diagonalization. We find that, in the weak coupling and low temperature regime, all the spin-single-mode systems exhibit the same decreasing dependence of tunneling on increasing temperature. In turn, with the conclusion of influence functional theory, the tunneling of the spin-boson model should decrease and it is independent of the bath structure. In the strong coupling regime, however, the temperature effect reverses from suppressing to enhancing the tunneling with the increase of temperature. Discrepancies between the old theories and the small polaron theory are also explained.

Establishment of correlated states in a quantum dot interacting with an acoustic phonon reservoir

Abstract:We investigate the effects of a low frequency (acoustic) phonon bath on the dynamics of a quantum dot modelled as a cascade three-level system. We show that the phonon bath appears to the upper transition of the cascade system as a broadband reservoir of inverted rather than conventional harmonic oscillators. The action of the annihilation and creation operators of the inverted oscillator are interchanges relative to those of the usual harmonic oscillator that it serves as a linear amplifier to the system, and thereby gives rise to unusual features in the dynamics of the quantum dot. We find that the phonon bath, although being in a thermal state, affects the quantum dot as a correlated-type reservoir which results in the decay of the system to a correlated two-photon state with the population distribution no longer obeying a Boltzmann distribution. It is particularly interesting that even for a zero temperature phonon reservoir the steady state is a correlated state which under appropriate conditions on the Rabi frequencies and the damping rates can reduce to a strongly correlated pure state. It is shown that the two-photon correlations result in a significant squeezing and strong two-photon correlations in the radiation field emitted by the quantum dot. The presence of the correlations in the system is manifest in the presence of quantum beats in the time evolution of the populations and the radiation intensity. The effect of the ordinary spontaneous emission on the features induced by the phonon bath is also discussed.

Abstract:We have studied the dissipative dynamics of a solid-state qubit with an extra electron confined to either one of two coupled quantum dots. Previous theoretical work based on Bloch-type rate equations gave an unphysical uniform occupation probability of the electron in the quantum dots even for non-identical dots. We show that this is due to neglecting higher-order interactions in the analysis. By including higher-order terms, we obtain expected asymmetric occupation probabilities for non-identical dots. Our work demonstrates that the high-order interaction terms can lead to important qualitative impacts on the operation of the qubit.
