Abstract:We study the violations of Bell inequality for thermal states of qubits in amulti-qubit Heisenberg model as a function of temperature and external magneticfields. Unlike the behaviors of the entanglement the violation can not beobtained by increasing the temperature or the magnetic field. The thresholdtemperatures of the violation are found be less than that of the entanglement.We also consider a realistic cavity-QED model which is a special case of themutli-qubit Heisenberg model.

Abstract:We use an alternative approach to study the quantum phase transition in a coupled cavity lattice at finite temperature. As an illustrative example, we investigate the behaviors of the trace distance and quantum phase transition in a Jaynes-Cummings lattice at finite temperature. It is found that the trace distance can be used to describe the critical point of the quantum phase transition at finite low temperatures and the critical points are sensitive to the atom-field interaction strength and the detuning factor. For non-equilibrium states, we demonstrate that the time evolution of the trace distance's maximum value is also a good indicator of the critical points. Moreover, we show that the scaling behavior of derivative of the trace distance at the critical points and the scaling rule are dependent on the external parameters of the Hamiltonian.

Abstract:We investigate the dynamics of quantum correlation between two noninteracting qubits each inserted in its own finite-temperature environment with 1/f spectral density. It is found that the phenomenon of sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence exists in the system when two qubits are initially prepared in X-type quantum states, and the transition time depends on the initial-state of two qubits, the qubit–environment coupling constant and the temperature of the environment. Furthermore, we explore the influence of dynamical decoupling pulses on the transition time and show that it can be prolonged by applying the dynamical decoupling pulses.

Abstract:The system of an atom couples to two distinct opticalcavities with decoherence is studied by making use of a dynamicalalgebraic method. We adopt the concurrence to characterize theentanglement between atom and cavities or between two opticalcavities in the presence of the phase decoherence or dissipation.It is found that the entanglement between atom and cavities can becontrolled by adjusting the detuning parameter. We show that evenif the atom is initially prepared in a maximally mixed state, itcan also entangle the two mode cavity fields. Finally, the Bellviolation of the cavity fields is discussed, and it is shown thatboth the detuning and decoherence can deteriorate the maximalamount of violation of Bell inequality for two mode cavity fieldsduring the evolution.

Abstract:Quantum behaviour in electrical circuits Bell inequalities provide a quantitative measure that can distinguish classically determined correlations from stronger quantum correlations. Experiments on microscopic systems such as atoms and photons strongly favour the quantum description, but there has been no Bell test in a solid-state system. This paper reports clear evidence for violation of a Bell inequality (and thus quantum behaviour) in a macroscopic electrical circuit consisting of superconducting phase qubits.

Abstract:Superior computational power promised by quantum computers utilises the fundamental quantum mechanical principle of entanglement. However, achieving entanglement and verifying that the generated state does not follow the principle of local causality has proven difficult for spin qubits in gate-defined quantum dots, as it requires simultaneously high concurrence values and readout fidelities to break the classical bound imposed by Bell's inequality. Here we employ heralded initialization and calibration via gate set tomography (GST), to reduce all relevant errors and push the fidelities of the full 2-qubit gate set above 99 %, including state preparation and measurement (SPAM). We demonstrate a 97.17 % Bell state fidelity without correcting for readout errors and violate Bell's inequality with a Bell signal of S = 2.731 close to the theoretical maximum of $2\sqrt{2}$. Our measurements exceed the classical limit even at elevated temperatures of 1.1 K or entanglement lifetimes of 100 $\mu s$.

The temperature influence on quantum tunneling in the spin-boson model

Abstract:The existing studies of the temperature effect of the spin-boson model show that the tunneling splitting will increase with temperature, no matter how weak the couplings are between the bath and the spin. However, the small polaron theory said that in the weak coupling and low temperature regime, the tunneling is, in fact, dominated by the diagonal transitions whereas this diagonal contribution to the tunneling should be faded away with increasing temperature. Taking advantage of the analysis originated from the Feynman-Vernon's influence functional theory, the influence on the tunneling by the phonon bath can be expressed as a product of the effects of every single phonon mode, which can be studied by numerical exact diagonalization. We find that, in the weak coupling and low temperature regime, all the spin-single-mode systems exhibit the same decreasing dependence of tunneling on increasing temperature. In turn, with the conclusion of influence functional theory, the tunneling of the spin-boson model should decrease and it is independent of the bath structure. In the strong coupling regime, however, the temperature effect reverses from suppressing to enhancing the tunneling with the increase of temperature. Discrepancies between the old theories and the small polaron theory are also explained.

Abstract:We show that in one-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg model two-qubit thermal entanglement and maximal violation of Bell inequalities are directly related with a thermodynamical state function, i.e., the internal energy. Therefore they are completely determined by the partition function, the central object of thermodynamics. For ferromagnetic ring we prove that there is no thermal entanglement at any temperature. Explicit relations between the concurrence and the measure of maximal Bell inequality violation are given.

Abstract:The correlations between two qubits belonging to a three-qubit system can violate the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt-Bell inequality beyond Tsirelson's bound [A. Cabello, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 060403 (2002)]. We experimentally demonstrate such a violation by 7 standard deviations by using a three-photon polarization-entangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state produced by Type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion. In addition, using part of our results, we obtain a violation of the Mermin inequality by 39 standard deviations.

Abstract:We use the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality to investigate the relationship among entanglement, purity and violation of the Bell inequality. On the one hand, we show numerically that all two-dimensional (qubit) states, whose entanglement of formation (EOF) is larger than 2 + root 2/4, violate the CHSH inequality. On the other hand, any state with purity smaller than 0.5562 may not violate it.

Abstract:Scientific imagination and experimental ingenuity are at the heart of physics. One of the most known instances where this interplay between theory (i.e., foundations) and experiments (i.e., technology) occurs is in the discussion of Bell's inequalities. In this paper, we present a revisitation of the violation of Bell's inequality in the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) form with entangled quantum states. First, we begin with a discussion of the 1935 Einstein-Podolski-Rosen (EPR) paradox (i.e., incompleteness of quantum mechanics) that emerges from putting the emphasis on Einstein's locality and the absolute character of physical phenomena. Second, we discuss Bell's 1971 derivation of the 1969 CHSH form of the original 1964 Bell inequality in the context of a realistic local hidden-variable theory (RLHVT). Third, identifying the quantum-mechanical spin correlation coefficient with the RLHVT one, we follow Gisin's 1991 analysis to show that quantum mechanics violates Bell's inequality when systems are in entangled quantum states. For pedagogical purposes, we show how the extent of this violation depends both on the orientation of the polarizers and the degree of entanglement of the quantum states. Fourth, we discuss the basics of the experimental verification of Bell's inequality in an actual laboratory as presented in the original 1982 Aspect-Grangier-Roger (AGR) experiment. Finally, we provide an outline of some essential take home messages from this wonderful example of physics at its best.

Specifically, for initial entangled states within the decoherence-free subspace (DFS), the CHSH inequality remains temperature-independent. In contrast, other entangled states exhibit a temperature threshold beyond which the inequality holds.

Abstract:We investigate the inelastic transport properties of quantum dots connected to two leads, based on the combination of a recently developed nonperturbative technique and full counting statistics involving an approximate mapping of a many-body electron–phonon system onto a multichannel scattering system. The full counting statistics is adopted in the calculations of the inelastic transport processes of electrons where the electron–phonon interactions, which are the main source of the inelasticity, are taken into account. For serially coupled double quantum dots, we find that (i) both the current and the noise are suppressed when electron–phonon interaction switches on, and (ii) skewness becomes negative in a certain parameter regime, which is absent in the case without electron–phonon interactions.

Abstract:Analyzing the spreading of information in many-body systems is crucial to understanding their quantum dynamics. At the most fundamental level, this task is accomplished by Bell inequalities, whose violation by quantum mechanics implies that information cannot always be stored locally. While Bell-like inequalities, such as the one of Clauser and Horne, envisage a situation in which two parties perform measurements on systems at different positions, one could formulate temporal inequalities, in which the two parties measure at different times. However, for causally-connected parties, these extensions are compatible with local hidden-variable theories, so that no intrinsically-quantum information spreading occurs in such temporal correlations. Here we show that a temporal Clauser-Horne inequality for two spins is violated for a nonzero time interval between the measurements if the two measured parties are connected by a spin chain. The chain constitutes a medium for the spreading of quantum information, which prevents the immediate signaling and thus the deterministic time evolution after the first measurement. Our result suggests that, as expected in a many-body setup, the Lieb-Robinson bound substitutes the speed of light as the fundamental limit for the spreading of information.

Abstract:We explore the quantum correlations, fidelity and quantum thermodynamics of two coupled double quantum dots containing two excess electrons. In this regard, we investigate and compare the evolution of those measures under thermal effects and tunneling coupling. We find the hierarchy of quantum correlations, and one-way steering between the two quantum dots. We found, as expect that the quantum correlations are diminishes by increasing the values of temperature. We show that this state can be used for quantum teleportation. On the other, we address the extracting work and efficiency of the state. We compare the extraction work with the bare energies. Our results show that quantum dots states have a reliable and better capacity to preserve quantum correlations and remain one of the good resources for the deployment of quantum information processing protocols.

Abstract:We investigate the feasibility of correlating an optical cavity field and a vibrational phonon mode. A laser pumped quantum dot fixed on a nano-mechanical resonator beam interact as a whole with the optical resonator mode. When the quantum dot variables are faster than the optical and phonon ones, we obtain a final master equation describing the involved modes only. Increasing the temperature, that directly affects the vibrational degrees of freedom, one can as well influence the cavity photon intensity, i.e., the optical and phonon modes are correlated. Furthermore, the corresponding Cauchy-Schwarz inequality is violated demonstrating the quantum nature of those correlations.

Violation of Bell inequalities in an analogue black hole

Abstract:Signals of entanglement and nonlocality are quantitatively evaluated at zero and finite temperature in an analogue black hole realized in the flow of a quasi one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate. The violation of Lorentz invariance inherent to this analog system opens the prospect to observe 3-mode quantum correlations and we study the corresponding violation of bipartite and tripartite Bell inequalities. It is shown that the long wavelength modes of the system are maximally entangled, in the sense that they realize a superposition of continuous variable versions of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states whose entanglement resists partial tracing.

Abstract:Nanoscale quantum dots in microwave cavities can be used as a laboratory for exploring electron-electron interactions and their spin in the presence of quantized light and a magnetic field. We show how a simple theoretical model of this interplay at resonance predicts complex but measurable effects. New polariton states emerge that combine spin, relative modes, and radiation. These states have intricate spin-space correlations and undergo polariton transitions controlled by the microwave cavity field. We uncover novel topological effects involving highly correlated spin and charge density that display singlet-triplet and inhomogeneous Bell-state distributions. Signatures of these transitions are imprinted in the photon distribution, which will allow for optical read-out protocols in future experiments and nanoscale quantum technologies.

Abstract:We demonstrate a strong influence of the phonon environment on the coherent dynamics of the quantum dot (QD)-cavity system in the quantum strong coupling regime. This regime is implemented in the nonlinear QD-cavity QED and can be reliably measured by heterodyne spectral interferometry. We present a semi-analytic asymptotically exact path integral-based approach to the nonlinear optical response of this system, which includes two key ingredients: Trotter's decomposition and linked-cluster expansion. Applied to the four-wave-mixing optical polarization, this approach provides access to different excitation and measurement channels, as well as to higher-order optical nonlinearities and quantum correlators. Furthermore, it allows us to extract useful analytic approximations and analyze the nonlinear optical response in terms of quantum transitions between phonon-dressed states of the anharmonic Jaynes-Cummings (JC) ladder. Being well described by these approximations at low temperatures and small exciton-cavity coupling, the exact solution deviates from them for stronger couplings and higher temperatures, demonstrating remarkable non-Markovian effects, spectral asymmetry, and strong phonon renormalization of the JC ladder.
