Urbanization and the Rising of Civil Sport:Comparative Study on Urban Sport Development between America and China

Abstract:This paper examined the rising of American and Chinese sport under the urbanization and compared how the different way of urbanization shaped two patterns of sports evolution in cities.Through using the method of literature review,interview,observation and comparison, the author found out that urbanization in America was a natural process driven by the economic and social forces.Accordingly,the rise of urban sport was an evolution rather than revolution, deeply embedded in the historical transformation of urban society.On the contrary,the rise of sport in China was more complex in the political and historical context of Chinese urban socie- ty,which had resulted that the development of urban sport was unparallel with the urbaniza- tion.However,this situation has been changed along with the market-oriented reformation in cities.Chinese urban sport has appeared some dramatic changes,which process had similarities with the sport in America.To further promote sport participation at the grassroots requires creating an organically economic,political and cultural environment in Chinese cities.
