Abstract:The educational reform in the risk society environment is a kind of risky decision-making. The logic of risk distribution is average, however, in today's society the vulnerable groups suffer from more risks. We should think about educational reform from the view of risk, call for decision-making ethics and establish multi-participation system in decision- making.

Abstract:During the Ming and Qing dynasties,China's grass-roots society gradually formed the social autonomy in which the local squires were leaders and the organizations of patriarchal clan were the foundation.In modern times,the Chinese government is rebuilding the system of grass-roots social autonomy through the implementation the autonomy of villagers and reform of social management system.Why do the government with the arbitrary power need the grass-roots social autonomy to a certain extent? This problem,in academic,there are two views:one is the theory of officials with constrained administrative capacity,the other one is the theory of political risk of Centralization.With combining traditional China and contemporary China to research,we find there is an enormous of limitation of theory of officials with constrained administrative capacity.And it contradicts with the reconstruction of grass-roots social autonomy in contemporary China.However,it has more general explanation ability in the theory of political risk of Centralization.In addition,the theory which comes from the generalization of theory of political risk of Centralization can explain the Chinese vertical decentralized governance structure and its evolution trend.

Abstract:A contemporary Risk Society is created by the rapid and no-controlling development of science and technology.Risks also appear in other areas such as politics,economics and culture.In the face of a Risk Society,people should be aware of social risk,and reform educational purposes accordingly.Education should teach students how to question authorities,to make a judgment or a choice rather than providing them with fixed values and knowledge,should develop students′ flexibility and adaptability rather than producing prescribed socialized-people.Education should also change from training students to be economic individuals to educating them to be active and responsible citizenships,from teaching students learning for a local or a nation to learning and action for all.

Abstract:In social and economic interactions, people often decide differently for others, as against for themselves, under situations involving risks. This sometimes leads to conflicts or contradictions. Although previous studies have explored such contradictions, the findings have been inconsistent. To reconcile these inconsistencies, this paper investigates the role played by the different domains and probabilities in the self-other differences under risk. Two groups of participants completed a gambling task combining different domains (gain vs. loss) and probabilities (small vs. large). One group made decisions for others and the other group made decisions for themselves. The results revealed a four pattern of discrepancy: the ones who made decisions for others were less risk-seeking than those who made decisions for themselves over the small probability gains. This was reversed over the large probability gains. Conversely, the participants who made decisions for others were more risk-seeking than those who made decisions for themselves over the small probability losses. The results were reversed over the large probability losses. These results reconcile the contradictory findings of the previous studies and suggest the significant role played by contextual factors in such discrepancies.
A Novel Online Education Reform Model Based on Risky Decision-Making under the Situation of Internet Plus

Abstract:In the new situation of Internet plus, information technology has been widely applied in education, and hence online education has attracted wide attention from all walks of life. Today’s society is a risk society, and risk is everywhere. Online education reform is also risky, which is determined by many reasons. Some risks will cause certain losses to the online education reform, so based on risky decision-making, it is necessary to carry out online education reform under the new situation of Internet plus. At first, the risky decision-making in online education reform is analyzed, which is the risk of online education reform in risk society and the allocation logic of online education reform. Then, taking interval type-2 fuzzy logic (IT2FL) as the information environment, this study proposes the optimal risky decision-making method based on IT2FL utility functions, IT2FL entropy, and risk preference factor of online education reform to solve the multipath risky decision-making problem of online education reform. Finally, the experimental results show that, in the risky decision-making model, the decision-maker’s risk preference has an impact on the path weight and the ranking of the scheme, and the idea has a certain reference role for risky decision-making. Compared with the three benchmarks, the proposed method has the fewest ranking time with the same ranking results.

Abstract:The current COVID-19 pandemic raises reflection on the new roles of science education in citizen education in a world characterized by civilization risks, derived from the current socioeconomic development. This specific type of risk is treated as a manufactured risk as proposed by the sociologist Ulrich Beck. In this paper, we report a document analysis starting from Beck's risk society theory, followed by notions of reflexive modernity, risk perception, and the Cynefin decision-making model for complex problems. COVID-19 pandemic is characterized as a manufactured risk. We state that students are unable to deal with manufactured risk because of the type of problems they are usually prepared to solve at school and the limited risk perception they have. In order to acquire better science education, we propose the integration of <i>wicked</i> problems in science programs alongside the use of a multidimensional schema, the so-called <i>amplified risk perception space</i>, a tool to locate students' risk perception. We hope to contribute to prepare citizens for a world of global and complex events, such as the current pandemic.

A Research on Risk Society and the Residents' Risk Perception in Contemporary China

Abstract:There are two different theoretical paradigms,the individualism paradigm and structuralism paradigm,used to explain the risk perception of general people.The former emphasizes the important influences of cognitive structure to people's risk perception,and the latter emphasizes the social context factors.According to the theories of risk perception,such as the cultural theory,social amplifica tion of risk and social institutional structural theory,the present research develops four hypotheses,in order to find the experience evi dence in China for these theories.The data is from the Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS) collected in 2006.The results show that,in general,Chinese residents have a very strong risk perception to the problems challenged to Chinese development,especially for the energy and environment problems.Besides,residents' risk perception is mainly determined by individual cognitive ability,media con tacts,urban and rural segmentation,and social status etc.Specifically,those who have higher education,more frequently media contacts,and higher social status,will have stronger risk perception.The urban residents have stronger risk perception than the rural residents.

Abstract:Recently,many new concepts which are relevant to the concept of"risk society"have entered our research field and show their importance,such as"risk","danger"and"disaster".The same is true to the interpretation of these concepts,such as the security of human,existence anxiety,ecology harmo- ny,sustainable development,scientific development,international responsibility and global governance. This indicates that our age has transformed from an age of economic semantics to an age of risk semantics. Meanwhile,the change of societal semantics from economic age to risk age represents a new civilization,i. e risk civilization.Issues related to risk are in every field of human activity,thus the academic society dis- cuss risk problems in all aspects.The risk phenomenon is interpreted and the risk context is constructed from different disciplines.Based on these discussions,different risk theories have been established,which call for more attention to the research of"ethical risk"from both the public and the academic.This article demonstrates three conversions in risk society studies:from economic semantics to risk semantics,illustra- ting the extensive appearance of risks and the sprout of risk studies;from economic civilization to risk civi- lization,illustrating the character and grand impact in risk civilization era;from economic risks to ethical risks,illustrating the thorough development of risk society and the complexity of risk issues.

Abstract:In the internet context, education’s pertinence and timeliness have been significantly improved. However, the online world is also full of hidden risks, and in this context, the behavior and thoughts of college students may have the risk of derailment. At the same time, the implementation of ideological and political education in universities may also face challenges. This article will analyze the causes of risks faced by ideological and political education for college students from three different perspectives: online media, individual students, and university management. In the final part of the article, targeted suggestions will be proposed, including strengthening student risk awareness education, enhancing the discourse power of universities in ideological and political education, and fully utilizing the advantages of online tools to increase risk prevention efforts, adapt to new changes in the online environment, and lead the new direction of university education work.

Abstract:The research on “schools of future” not only contains the reflection on and the criticism of many problems in today’s schools, but also shows a proactive planning for a better educational ideal and school pattern for the future. In this area, a consensus has been formed concerning the space reconstruction, technological empowerment, and personalized orientation of the development of future schools. However, there are still many controversies over such issues as how to face the uncertainty of the future, whether to move toward “de-discipline” or to reconstruct the disciplines based on the disciplinary logic, and whether to promote the retreat of “teaching” or to further strengthen the power of “teaching” in the sense of transformation. In order to guide the construction of future schools in a more rational way, the research on “schools of future” should avoid falling into such traps as “technological determinism”, “undifferentiated reform”, and social atomization.

Abstract:Due to the push of theories and reality, societal risk studies become emergent in China again. Interdisciplinaryly, they are an academic continuum with societal risks and public crises at both ends, and a continuum with realism and constructivism at the extremes if viewed in the context of academic dialogues within international community. Consequently, four paradigms can be distinguished. Both the studies per se and the transformation of Chinese society demand an integrative framework to break down the separation between the studies of societal risks and public crises, and to bridge the gap between the realistic and constructive studies so as to find out our experience with societal risk management and to hold dialogues with international community.

Abstract:Human beings live in a world full of risks, from minor risks such as colds and fevers to major crises such as economic crises and hurricanes. How to cope with these risks is a constant topic in the evolution of humankind. The impact of various characteristics of risk on the risk-resistance outcomes has been well studied, including the probability, intensity and spread of risks. However, as an additional dimension independent of the above main characteristics, risk-resistance solutions that are appropriate to the risk have not received sufficient attention. We abstract this characteristic as the relative cost-effectiveness between collective solution and individual solution in resisting a risk and name it communality. Taking communality and intensity as the two main characteristics of risk, we propose a risk-resistance model and explore the critical impact of risk communality on the outcomes of risk resistance. Using numerical analysis, we map the state transition of the population on a two-dimensional surface consisting of communality and intensity. Simulation experiments validate the results from numerical analysis and reveal four regions in this surface, each of which corresponds to a governance structure endogenous to the population. The complex impact of population-endogenous governance structures on the risk-resistance outcomes reflects the real-world challenges of risk governance. This article suggests that social governors need to implement different logics in the face of risks with different communalities.

Abstract:Chinese Transition period has doubles the risk of society,showing a high social risk status.Establishing new common values in the people and the rules governing mode of social governance are two basis points of risk control and order reconstruction in the society transition period of China.The emergence of "Active Judiciary" is the response to the need of risk control and order reconstruction in the transition period,so it has gained a high legitimacy of politic.The proper meaning of"Active Judiciary" including:establishing the faith in law of risk society through judicial decisions,so that the social shared value system can be reconstruct;changing the social governance model to the rules of governance by the consistent application of the law;improving public participation in the judiciary,make justice the first piece of "Public Domain".Active judiciary should be based on the understanding of the essential attribute of justice and its mission of the times,and maintaining the necessary tension and balance between its political functions and judicial functions.

Abstract:This study shows that social stability risk assessment is more specific, and is determined by the attributes of the public goods. So the social stability risk assessment will face a more complex and difficult situation. These difficulties are reflected in the management system, operation mechanism, legal system construction and theoretical guidance etc. In order to effectively get rid of the difficult situation, the decision-making departments should straighten out the relationship between the system stability assessment and other main responsibilities, establish remote assessment and filing review system; in the technical aspects, efforts should be made to improve the universality and representation of public participation, to make improvements in the form, content and weight of risk communication, and to protect the public‘s right to know and to participate with an equal right. At the legal level, the legal status of social risk assessment must be defined to straighten out the relationship between it and the legal basis of other risk assessment. From the theoretical perspective, the path dependence of the public‘s NIMBY syndrome should be clarified to strengthen the vulnerability of public trust research, build theory analysis framework of construct risk perception-risk communication-public trust, and improve the theoretical guide of risk assessment.
