Abstract:1317 adolescents and their parents were assessed by The Chinese Family Assessment Instrument and Rosenberg's self-esteem scale in order to examine the characteristics of parent-offspring perceptual similarity in family functioning and its relations to self-esteem.The results showed that(1)There was a medium degree of Parent-offspring Perceptual Similarity of Family Functioning with no difference between father and mother;(2)Significant differences of gender and grade were found in the perceptual similarity in family functioning with girls more similar to their parents;Grade 1 high school students had higher similarity than students of other three grades. There were different similarities in the different subscale of family functioning;(3)Boys had higher self-esteem than girls;lower perceptual similarity would be linked to lower self-esteem.Higher self-esteem could be forecast by higher similarity in whole family functioning and the parental concern subscale.
