Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract:We prove several positive results regarding representation of homotopy classes of spheres and algebraic groups by regular mappings. Most importantly we show that every mapping from a sphere to an orthogonal or a unitary group is homotopic to a regular one. Furthermore we prove that algebraic homotopy classes of spheres form a subgroup of the homotopy group, and that a similar result holds also for cohomotopy groups of arbitrary varieties.

Abstract:We consider proper holomorphic maps of ball complements and differences in complex euclidean spaces of dimension at least two. Such maps are always rational, which naturally leads to a related problem of classifying rational maps taking concentric spheres to concentric spheres, what we call $m$-fold sphere maps; a proper map of the difference of concentric balls is a $2$-fold sphere map. We prove that proper maps of ball complements are in one to one correspondence with polynomial proper maps of balls taking infinity to infinity. We show that rational $m$-fold sphere maps of degree less than $m$ (or polynomial maps of degree $m$ or less) must take all concentric spheres to concentric spheres and we provide a complete classification of them. We prove that these degree bounds are sharp.

Abstract:In this paper, we give presentations of the mapping class groups of marked surfaces stabilizing boundaries for any genus. Note that in the existing works, the mapping class groups of marked surfaces were the isotopy classes of homeomorphisms fixing boundaries pointwise. The condition for stabilizing boundaries of mapping class groups makes the requirement for mapping class groups to fix boundaries pointwise to be unnecessary. As an application of presentations of the mapping class groups of marked surfaces stabilizing boundaries, we obtain the presentation of the cluster automorphism group of a cluster algebra from a feasible surface ( S, M ). Lastly, for the case (1) 4-punctured sphere, the cluster automorphism group of a cluster algebra from the surface is characterized. Since cluster automorphism groups of cluster algebras from those surfaces were given in [1] in the cases (2) the once-punctured 4-gon and (3) the twice-punctured digon, we indeed give presentations of cluster automorphism groups of cluster algebras from surfaces which are not feasible. Some remarks on real algebraic maps which are topologically special generic maps and generalize the canonical projections of the unit spheres

Abstract:Morse functions with exactly two singular points on homotopy spheres and canonical projections of spheres are generalized as special generic maps. A special generic map is, roughly, a smooth map represented as the composition of a smooth surjection onto a manifold whose preimages are diffeomorphic to a unit sphere in the interior of the manifold and single point sets on the boundary with a smooth immersion of codimension $0$. This paper constructs real algebraic maps topologically special generic maps whose images are smoothly embedded manifolds. We are also interested in construction of explicit and meaningful smooth maps in differential topology and recently ones in real algebraic geometry. This has been an important and difficult problem. In such stories, we have previously constructed real algebraic maps topologically regarded as special generic maps. This paper is a kind of additional short remark on such maps.

Abstract:We prove that for finitely generated abelian groups $A$ and $B$, the space of $\mathbb{E}_\infty$-ring maps between the spherical groups rings $\mathbb{S}[A] \to \mathbb{S}[B]$ is equivalent to the discrete set of group homomorphisms $A \to B$. We also prove generalizations where the sphere is replaced by other ring spectra, e.g. we give a formula for the strict units in group rings of the form $R[A]$ for $A$ a finite $p$-group and $R$ $p$-completely chromatically complete.

Abstract:In this article, we study the topology and bifurcations of the moduli space M-3 of cubic Newton maps. It's a subspace of the moduli space of cubic rational maps, carrying the Riemann orbifold structure ((C)over-bar, (2, 3, infinity)).We prove two results: The boundary of the unique unbounded hyperbolic component is a Jordan arc and the boundaries of all other hyperbolic components are Jordan curves; The Head's angle map is surjective and monotone. The fibers of this map are characterized completely. The first result is a moduli space analogue of the first author's dynamical regularity theorem [37]. Abstract:We show that the set of harmonic maps from the 2-dimensional stratified spheres with uniformly bounded energies contains only finitely many homotopy classes. We apply this result to construct infinitely many harmonic map flows and mean curvature flows of 2-sphere in the connected sum of two closed 3-dimensional manifolds M1≠S3 and M2≠S3,RP3, which must develop finite time singularity.

Abstract:For a locally finite graph $\Gamma$, we consider its mapping class group $\text{Map}(\Gamma)$ as defined by Algom-Kfir-Bestvina. For these groups, we prove a generalization of the results of Laudenbach and Brendle-Broaddus-Putman, producing a $3$-manifold $M_{\Gamma}$ whose mapping class group surjects onto $\text{Map}(\Gamma)$ with kernel a compact abelian group of sphere twists so that the corresponding short exact sequence splits. Along the way we obtain an induced faithful action of $\text{Map}(\Gamma)$ on the sphere complex $\mathcal{S}(M_{\Gamma})$ of $M_{\Gamma}$, which is the simplicial complex whose simplices are isotopy classes of finite collections of spheres in $M_{\Gamma}$ which are pairwise disjoint. When $\Gamma$ has finite rank, we further show that the action of $\text{Map}(\Gamma)$ on a certain natural subcomplex has elements with positive translation length, and also consider a candidate for an Outer space of such a graph. As another application, we prove that for many $\Gamma$, $\text{Map}(\Gamma)$ is quasi-isometric to a particular subgraph of $\mathcal{S}(M_{\Gamma})$, following Schaffer-Cohen. We also deduce analogs of the results of Domat-Hoganson-Kwak.

Spaces of maps between real algebraic varieties

Abstract:Given two real algebraic varieties X and Y, we denote by R(X,Y) the set of all regular maps from X to Y. The set R(X,Y) is regarded as a topological subspace of the space C(X,Y) of all continuous maps from X to Y endowed with the compact-open topology. We prove, in a much more general setting than previously considered, that each path component of C(X,Y) contains at most one path component of R(X,Y), and for every positive integer k the inclusion map R(X,Y)-->C(X,Y) induces an isomorphism between the kth homotopy groups of the corresponding path components. We also identify several cases where this inclusion map is a weak homotopy equivalence.

Abstract:We show the existence of $S^1\times C_p$-maps between certain representation spheres. As an application, we show that, in the family of abelian compact Lie groups, a group $G$ has the weak Borsuk-Ulam property (in the sense of Bartsch) if and only if $G$ is either a finite abelian $p$-group or a $k$-torus.

Abstract:One way to better understand the smooth mapping class group of the 4-sphere would be to give a list of generators in the form of explicit diffeomorphisms supported in neighborhoods of submanifolds, in analogy with Dehn twists on surfaces. As a step in this direction, we describe a surjective homomorphism from a group associated to loops of 2-spheres in $S^2 \times S^2$'s onto this smooth mapping class group, discuss two natural and in some sense complementary subgroups of the domain of this homomomorphism, show that one is in the kernel, and give generators as above for the image of the other. These generators are described as twists along Montesinos twins, i.e. pairs of embedded 2-spheres in the 4-sphere intersecting transversely at two points.

Abstract:Abstract Recently, the first author and Y. Wang proved that $f\colon \rn\to\rn$ (n ≥ 2) is a Möbius transformation if and only if f is a non-degenerate circle-preserving map. In this paper, we will further the result to show that f is a Möbius transformation if and only if f is a non-degenerate r–dimensional sphere-preserving map. The versions for the Euclidean and hyperbolic cases are also obtained. These results make no surjectivity or injectivity or even continuity assumptions on f. Moreover, certain degenerate sphere-preserving maps are given, which completes the characterizations of sphere-preserving maps.
