Abstract:By using Bochner technique and gradient estimate, we give the lower bound estimates of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian on Finsler manifolds. These results generalize the corresponding famous theorems in the Riemannian geometry.

Abstract:We prove that for a compact Finsler manifold M with nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature,if its first closed(resp.Neumann)eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian attains the sharp lower bound,then M is isometric to a circle(resp.a segment).Moreover,a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition is also estimated.These generalize the corresponding results in recent literature.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.
Exploring new extrinsic upper bounds on the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator for compact submanifolds in Euclidean spaces

Abstract:Upper bounds of the first non-trivial eigenvalue $\lambda_1$ of the Laplace operator of a compact submanifold $M^n$ of Euclidean space $\R^{m+1}$, by means of a new technique, are obtained. Each of the upper bounds of $\lambda_1$ depends on the length of mean curvature vector field, the dimension $n$, the volume of $M^n$, and of a vector of $\R^{m+1}$. When $M^n$ does not lie minimally in a hypersphere of $\R^{m+1}$, classical Reilly's inequality \cite{Re} is improved and new upper bounds are explicitly computed. For instance, considering a torus of revolution whose generating circle has a radius of $1$ and is centered at distance $\sqrt{2}$ from the axis of revolution, we find $\lambda_1 < \frac{4}{3}(\sqrt{2}-1)\approx 0.552284$, whereas Reilly's upper bound gives $\lambda_1 < 1/\sqrt{2}\approx 0.707106$.

First Eigenvalue Estimates for Asymptotically Hyperbolic Manifolds and their Submanifolds

Abstract:We derive a sharp upper bound for the first eigenvalue $\lambda_{1,p}$ of the $p$-Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds for $1<p<\infty$. We then prove that a particular class of conformally compact submanifolds within asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds are themselves asymptotically hyperbolic. As a corollary, we show that for any minimal conformally compact submanifold $Y^{k+1}$ within $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}(-1)$, $\lambda_{1,p}(Y)=\left(\frac{k}{p}\right)^{p}$. We then obtain lower bounds on $\lambda_{1,2}(Y)$ in the case where minimality is replaced with a bounded mean curvature assumption and where the ambient space is a general Poincaré-Einstein space whose conformal infinity is of non-negative Yamabe type. In the process, we introduce an invariant $\hat \beta^Y$ for each such submanifold, enabling us to generalize a result due to Cheung-Leung.

Abstract:Let M be an n -dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with or without boundary, and its Ricci curvature Ric M ⩾ n −1. The paper obtains an inequality for the first eigenvalue η 1 of M with mixed boundary condition, which is a generalization of the results of Lichnerowicz, Reilly, Escobar and Xia. It is also proved that η 1 ⩾ n for certain n -dimensional compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary, which is an extension of the work of Cheng, Li and Yau.

Abstract:The aim of this note is to study the spectrum of a linearized Liouville-type problem, characterizing the case in which the first eigenvalue is zero. Interestingly enough, we obtain also point-wise information on the associated first eigenfunction. To this end, we refine the Alexandrov-Bol inequality suitable for our problem and characterize its equality case.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish several new Lyapunov-type inequalities for two classes of one-dimensional quasilinear elliptic systems of resonant type, which generalize or improve all related existing ones. Then we use the Lyapunov-type inequalities obtained in this paper to derive a better lower bound for the generalized eigenvalues of the one-dimensional quasilinear elliptic system with the Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Abstract:To investigate concentration of Laplacian eigenfunctions on a compact manifold as the eigenvalue grows to infinity, an important route is to bound their restriction to submanifolds. In this paper we take the route in the setting of a compact Lie group, and provide sharp restriction bounds of general Laplacian eigenfunctions as well as important special ones such as matrix coefficients and in particular characters of irreducible representations of the group. We focus on two classes of submanifolds, namely, submanifolds of maximal flats and the conjugation-invariant submanifolds. We prove conjecturally sharp asymptotic $L^p$ bounds of restriction of general Laplacian eigenfunctions to submanifolds of maximal flats for all $p\geq 2$. We also prove sharp asymptotic $L^p$ bounds of restriction of characters to submanifolds of maximal tori for all $p>0$, of general matrix coefficients to submanifolds of maximal flats for all $p\geq 2$, and of characters to the conjugation-invariant submanifolds for all $p\geq 2$.

Abstract:Ten sharp lower estimates of the first non-trivial eigenvalue of Laplacian on compact Riemannian manifolds are reviewed and compared. An improved variational formula, a general common estimate, and a new sharp one are added. The best lower estimates are now updated. The new estimates provide a global picture of what one can expect by our approach.

Abstract:In this article we study the first eigenvalues of closed Riemann surfaces for large genus. We show that for every closed Riemann surface X-g of genus g (g >= 2), the first eigenvalue of X-g is L1(X-g) greater than g2 up to a uniform positive constant multiplication. Where L1(X-g) is the shortest length of multi closed curves separating X-g. Moreover, we also show that this new lower bound is optimal asg & RARR;& INFIN;.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we give lower bounds for the fundamental tone of open sets in minimal submanifolds immersed into warped product spaces of type N n × f Q q , where f ∈ C ∞ ( N ). This setting allows us to deal, among other things, with minimal submanifolds bounded by cylinders, cones, spheres and pseudo-hyperbolic spaces where most of these examples are not covered in the literature. Applications also include the study of the essential spectrum of hyperbolic graphs over compact regions of the boundary at infinity.
