Facilitating Professional Development of Primary-and Secondary-School Teachers via Editorial Intentions Embodied in Educational Periodicals:Starting from the Practicality Configuration in the Contents of Such Periodicals

Abstract:Under the background of the new curriculum reform,the orientations of educational periodicals remain as they were.According to the reform,the writing and publishing of research papers on teaching is an important index of the professional development of basic-education staff,and so educational periodicals should play a part,as they used to,in facilitating the teacher development.At present,most of the educational periodicals meant for primary and secondary school teachers adhere to the basic principle of practicality in accepting contributions,which involves three priorities,i.e.: "priority of micro-over macro-study","priority of direct over indirect study" and "priority of general over particular study".It is,therefore,quite necessary to help primary and secondary school teachers to understand this practicality intention of the educational periodicals.The intention can be addressed from four perspectives,namely,"problem-solving","comparison","generalization" and "innovation";while each of the four perspectives covers its own connotation of practicality,they share the same purpose of providing insight to the teachers and facilitating the latter's professional development via the study of teaching.
