Changes of IOP in posterior correction of scoliosis surgery

Abstract:Objective To observe the variations in intraocular pressures (IOP) in posterior correction of scoliosis surgery.Methods Twenty patients (ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ) were underwent posterior correction of scoliosis surgery, IOP were detected by Tono Pen XL Tonometer 10 minutes later on supine position before the operation (T1), 10 min(T2),30 min(T3) after prone position, 10 minutes before end of operation on prone position (T4), after the operation 10 min(T5), 30 min(T6) later on supine position. MAP, HR, PETCO2, and CVP were observed at the time points as well.Results There were no differences in MAP, HR, PETCO2,CVP at each time point. The IOP were increased significantly at T2-T5 compared with IOP at T1 (P<0.05). The IOP were increased significantly at T3, T4 compared with IOP at T2, T5(P<0.05).Conclusion The IOP increases gradually from the point when the patient is put on prone position and maintain a high pressure to the end of operation, decreases back to the preoperative level when the patient is put on supine position after the operation.
