Abstract:The classical uncertainty principles deal with functions on abelian groups. In this paper, we discuss the uncertainty principles for finite index subfactors which include the cases for finite groups and finite dimensional Kac algebras. We prove the Hausdorff-Young inequality, Young's inequality, the Hirschman-Beckner uncertainty principle, the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle. We characterize the minimizers of the uncertainty principles and then we prove Hardy's uncertainty principle by using minimizers. We also prove that the minimizer is uniquely determined by the supports of itself and its Fourier transform. The proofs take the advantage of the analytic and the categorial perspectives of subfactor planar algebras. Our method to prove the uncertainty principles also works for more general cases, such as Popa's lambda-lattices, modular tensor categories, etc. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the Donoho–Stark uncertainty principle for locally compact quantum groups and characterize the minimizer which are bi-shifts of group-like projections. We also prove the Hirschman–Beckner uncertainty principle for compact quantum groups and discrete quantum groups. Furthermore, we show Hardy's uncertainty principle for locally compact quantum groups in terms of bi-shifts of group-like projections.

Abstract:Let f be in the localized nonisotropic Sobolev space W^1,p_loc( ℍ^n) on the n -dimensional Heisenberg group ℍ n = ℂ n × ℝ, where 1 = p < Q and Q = 2 n + 2 is the homogeneous dimension of ℍ n . Suppose that the subelliptic gradient is gloablly L p integrable, i.e., ∫_ℍ^n| ∇ _ℍ^n f|^p du is finite. We prove a Poincaré inequality for f on the entire space ℍ n . Using this inequality we prove that the function f subtracting a certain constant is in the nonisotropic Sobolev space formed by the completion of C^∞_0( ℍ^n) under the norm of ( ∫_ℍ^n| f |^Qp/Q - p)^Q - p/Qp + ( ∫_ℍ^n| ∇ _ℍ^n f|^p)^1/p . We will also prove that the best constants and extremals for such Poincaré inequalities on ℍ n are the same as those for Sobolev inequalities on ℍ n . Using the results of Jerison and Lee on the sharp constant and extremals for L 2 to L2Q/Q - 2 Sobolev inequality on the Heisenberg group, we thus arrive at the explicit best constant for the aforementioned Poincaré inequality on ℍ n when p = 2. We also derive the lower bound of the best constants for local Poincaré inequalities over metric balls on the Heisenberg group ℍ n .

Abstract:We investigate the Cauchy–Szegő projection for quaternionic Siegel upper half space to obtain the pointwise (higher order) regularity estimates for Cauchy–Szegő kernel and prove that the Cauchy–Szegő kernel is nonzero everywhere, which further yields a non-degenerated pointwise lower bound. As applications, we prove the uniform boundedness of Cauchy–Szegő projection on every atom on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, which is used to give an atomic decomposition of regular Hardy space H p on quaternionic Siegel upper half space for 2 3 < p ≤ 1 . Moreover, we establish the characterisation of singular values of the commutator of Cauchy–Szegő projection based on the kernel estimates. The quaternionic structure (lack of commutativity) is encoded in the symmetry groups of regular functions and the associated partial differential equations.

Abstract:We give estimates of the remainder terms for several conformally-invariant Sobolev-type inequalities on the Heisenberg group. By considering the variations of associated functionals, we give a stability for two dual inequalities: The fractional Sobolev (FS) and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) inequalities, in terms of distance to the submanifold of extremizers. Then we compare their remainder terms to improve the inequalities in another way. We also compare, in the limit case, the remainder terms of Beckner-Onofri (BO) inequality and its dual logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (Log-HLS) inequality. Besides, we also list without proof some results for other groups of Iwasawa-type. Our results generalize earlier works on Euclidean spaces of Chen et al. (2013) and Dolbeault and Jankowiak (2014) onto some groups of Heisenberg-type. We worked for "almost" all fractions especially for comparing results, and the stability of HLS is also absolutely new, even for Euclidean case.

Abstract:We explore the uncertainty relation for unitary operators in a new way and find two uncertainty equalities for unitary operators, which are minimized by any pure states. Additionally, we derive two sets of uncertainty inequalities that unveil hierarchical structures within the realm of unitary operator uncertainty. Furthermore, we examine and compare our method for unitary uncertainty relations to other prevailing formulations. We provide explicit examples for better understanding and clarity. Results show that the hierarchical unitary uncertainty relations establish strong bounds. Moreover, we investigate the higher-dimensional limit of the unitary uncertainty equalities.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the quantitative mean ergodic theorems for two subclasses of power bounded operators on a fixed noncommutative L p space with 1 < p < ∞ , which mainly concerns power bounded invertible operators and Lamperti contractions. Our approach to the quantitative ergodic theorems relies on noncommutative square function inequalities. The establishment of the latter involves several new ingredients such as the almost orthogonality and Calderón-Zygmund arguments for non-smooth kernels from semi-commutative harmonic analysis, the extension properties of the operators under consideration from operator theory, and a noncommutative version of the classical transference method due to Coifman and Weiss.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the (two-sided) quaternion windowed linear canonical transform (QWLCT) and study the uncertainty principles associated with the QWLCT. First, several important properties of the QWLCT such as bounded, shift, modulation and orthogonality relations are presented based on the spectral representation of the quaternionic linear canonical transform (QLCT). Second, Pitt's inequality and the Lieb inequality for the QWLCT are explored. Moreover, we study different kinds of uncertainty principles for the QWLCT, such as the logarithmic uncertainty principle, the entropic uncertainty principle, the Lieb uncertainty principle and Donoho–Stark's uncertainty principle. Finally, we provide a numerical example and a potential application to signal recovery by using Donoho–Stark's uncertainty principle associated with the QWLCT.

Abstract:Many fundamental results of pluripotential theory on the quaternionic space $${\mathbb {H}}^n$$ are extended to the Heisenberg group. We introduce notions of a plurisubharmonic function, the quaternionic Monge–Ampère operator, differential operators $$d_0$$ and $$d_1$$ and a closed positive current on the Heisenberg group. The quaternionic Monge–Ampère operator is the coefficient of $$ (d_0d_1u)^n$$ . We establish the Chern–Levine–Nirenberg type estimate, the existence of quaternionic Monge–Ampère measure for a continuous quaternionic plurisubharmonic function and the minimum principle for the quaternionic Monge–Ampère operator. Unlike the tangential Cauchy–Riemann operator $$ {\overline{\partial }}_b $$ on the Heisenberg group which behaves badly as $$ \partial _b{\overline{\partial }}_b\ne -{\overline{\partial }}_b\partial _b $$ , the quaternionic counterpart $$d_0$$ and $$d_1$$ satisfy $$ d_0d_1=-d_1d_0 $$ . This is the main reason that we have a good theory for the quaternionic Monge–Ampère operator than $$ (\partial _b{\overline{\partial }}_b)^n$$ .

Abstract:In this paper, we establish two families of sharp geometric inequalities for closed hypersurfaces in space forms or other warped product manifolds. Both families of inequalities compare three distinct geometric quantities. The first family concerns the $k$-th boundary momentum, area, and weighted volume, and has applications to Weinstock-type inequalities for Steklov or Wentzell eigenvalues on star-shaped mean convex domains. This generalizes the main results of [12]. The second family involves a weighted $k$-th mean curvature integral and two distinct quermassintegrals and extends the authors' recent work [33] with G. Wheeler and V.-M. Wheeler.

Abstract:The uncertainty relation is a fundamental concept in quantum theory, plays a pivotal role in various quantum information processing tasks. In this study, we explore the additive uncertainty relation pertaining to two or more observables, in terms of their variance,by utilizing the generalized Gell-Mann representation in qudit systems. We find that the tight state-independent lower bound of the variance sum can be characterized as a quadratic programming problem with nonlinear constraints in optimization theory. As illustrative examples, we derive analytical solutions for these quadratic programming problems in lower-dimensional systems, which align with the state-independent lower bounds. Additionally, we introduce a numerical algorithm tailored for solving these quadratic programming instances, highlighting its efficiency and accuracy. The advantage of our approach lies in its potential ability to simultaneously achieve the optimal value of the quadratic programming problem with nonlinear constraints but also precisely identify the extremal state where this optimal value is attained. This enables us to establish a tight state-independent lower bound for the sum of variances, and further identify the extremal state at which this lower bound is realized.
