Abstract:The reactions of 4-mono- or 4-unsubstituted 2,3-alkadienamides with CuX2 afforded 5-hydroxypyrTol-2(5H)-ones via the sequential lactamization and gamma-hydroxylation process in aqueous THF while those of 4,4-disubstituted 2,3-alkadienamides with CuX2 in THF afforded iminolactones in high yields. Iodoiminolactonization and iodolactamization/gamma-hydroxylation were achieved by the corresponding reaction with I-2 in THF at rt. The structures of the products depend on the steric hindrance at the 4-position of the starting allenamides. Relatively electron-rich allenes afforded the corresponding products in much higher yields under milder reaction conditions implying the intramolecular electrophilic nature of the cyclization reaction. Abstract:The hydrohalogenation reactions of electron-deficient allenes, such as 1,2-allenic ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amides, nitriles, sulfoxides (with the use of AlX3/H2O), sulfones, and phosphine oxides with MX (X = I, Br, Cl, M = Na, Li) in different solvents, such as HOAc, CF3COOH-HOAc (1 : 1), CF3COOH and THF were studied. The reaction is nucleophilic conjugate addition in nature and provides efficient entries to 1-functionalized 2-halo-2-alkenes. The β,γ- over α,β-selectivity and stereoselectivity depend on the solvent(s) and the temperature applied. In most cases, the Z- and E-isomers can be easily separated with chromatography on silica gel. The subsequent cross coupling reaction with organometallic reagents and terminal alkynes showed the synthetic potential of these products.

Abstract:Gamma-iminolactones 2, dihydroquinolin-2-ones 3, and gamma-lactames 4 have been synthesized starting from beta-hydroxymethylcyclopropanylamides 1, mediated by SnCl4/NaI/NEt3, BF3.OEt2, and TiCl4/NEt3. The corresponding products 2, 3, and 4 were produced, respectively, in high to excellent yields.

Abstract:The hydrohalogenation reaction of 1,2-allenic carboxylic acids, esters, amides, nitriles, and diphenyl phosphine oxides with HX or MX (X = I, Br, Cl, M = Na, Li) in different solvents, such as HOAc, CF3CO2N, and CF3CO2H-HOAc (1:1) was studied. The reaction is a nucleophilic conjugate addition in nature and provides efficient entries to 3-halo-3-enoic acids, esters, amides, nitriles, and 2-haloallyl diphenyl phosphine oxides. The beta,gamma- over alpha,beta -selectivity and stereoselectivity depend on the solvent(s) and the temperature applied. In most cases, the Z- and E-isomers can be easily separated by chromatography on silica gel. The subsequent cross-coupling reaction with organometallic reagents and terminal alkynes showed the synthetic potential of these products.

Abstract:Abstract The hydrochlorination, hydrobromination, and hydroiodination of unactivated alkenes using methanesulfonic acid and inorganic halide salts (CaCl2, LiBr, LiI) in acetic acid are reported. This approach uses readily available and inexpensive reagents to provide the alkyl halides in up to 99% yield. An example of deuteriochlorination using deuterated acetic acid as the solvent is also demonstrated.

Abstract:An N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed highly diastereo- and enantioselective formal [3+2] reaction of o-hydroxy aromatic aldimines and cinnamaldehydes for the preparation of enantioenriched trans-γ-lactams was developed. An internal hydrogen bond between the o-hydroxy and the imine function was crucial for the reactivity and chemical selectivity. Trans-γ-lactam 3 d was easily oxidized to multifunctional 1,4-benzoquinone 8, which could further be transformed to biaryl 9 in the presence of a phosphoric acid. Finally, preliminary results for a kinetic resolution of (±)-trans-γ-lactam 3 d under asymmetric NHC catalysis are reported.

Abstract:The hydrohalogenation reaction of 1‐alkyl substituted 1,2‐allenyl carboxylic acid esters (1) with MX (M= Na, or Li, X= Cl, Br, I) afforded a mixture of β,γ‐unsaturated 3‐halo–3‐alkenoates (2) and Q,P unsaturated 3‐halo‐2‐alkenoates (3) in HOAc, while using a mixture of HOAC‐CF 3 CO 2 H (1:1) or CF 3 C 2 H as the reaction medium the corresponding reaction cleanly produced β,γ ‐unsaturated 3‐hale3‐alkenoates (2) as the sole products in high yields. The subsequent coupling reactions were studied.
Transition-Metal-Free Selective Halocyclization of N-Alkoxy Amides: Synthesis of N-Alkoxy Lactams and Oximinolactones

Abstract:A new method for the synthesis of N -alkoxy lactams and oximinolactones, involving the selective N -cyclization and O -cyclization of unsaturated N -alkoxy amides, is presented. This approach features mild reaction conditions and no requirement for transition-metal catalysts. The protocol demonstrates a wide range of applicability in 5- exo - trig and 6- exo - trig cyclization, accommodating chloro, bromo, and iodo electrophiles. The N -cyclization process can be achieved in the presence of strong lithium base such as LiHMDS or n -BuLi, while the O -cyclization occurs spontaneously without the addition of any base. Mechanistic studies reveal the N -cyclization reactions proceed through cyclic lithium intermediates, as confirmed by FT-IR studies and control experiments, which contribute to the N -selectivity. The current methodology was successfully used in synthesis of natural product ( E / Z ) des -hydroxy triticone A and B.
