Abstract:A new method of measurement for automatically tracing the capacitive current of power systems is proposed. When the grid is highly balanced and the inductance of arc-suppression coil is adjusted continuously, thus making the neutral voltage maximum in 50 Hz, the inductive reactance of arc-suppression coil is equal to the capacitive reactance of the grid-to-ground. In this way the capacitive current can be calculated. When the grid is not highly balanced, by adjusting inductive current of arc-suppression coil to I 1, I 2, I 3, getting the neutral voltages U 1, U 2, U 3, and then figuring out the capacitive current, the precision is higher as the damp rate is taken into account. The sensitivity of tracing capacitive current is determined by the principle that the added inductive current δI L or the inverse added capacitive current δI C produces the same added neutral voltage δU. The capacitive current can be traced automatically by measuring the added neutral voltage continuously. Furthermore, the dynamic resonance adjustment method is as follows: measuring capacitive current in real-time when the grid operates in normal, tuning arc-suppression coil and making it compensate for the capacitive current completely when single-phase-to-ground fault occurs. The controller of arc-suppression coil with magnetic bias, based on the principle above, has been developed. The block diagrams of its software and hardware and transient response waveforms are presented. It is shown that the error in measuring capacitive current is less than 3% and the transient process of compensation is less than two cycles.
