Abstract:Purpose:This study offered insights into how Chinese college admission reform brought about school changes and influenced students' motivation and learning behaviors.Design/Approach/Methods:Four classes in one public high school in the Shanghai Municipality were observed in their homeroom activities and during class breaks. Students and teachers were purposively selected and interviewed.Findings:Due to the more choices on national college entrance examination-examined subjects, career development courses and internships were offered to give students guidance on subject selection. A class shifting system was adopted. In response to the comprehensive evaluation criteria, more free time and club activities were offered so that students can develop their own interests in nonacademic areas. While the reform promoted some students' intrinsic motivation and mastery goals-that is, students reported their intention to develop interests and improve competences-some students made strategic decisions (e.g., avoiding choosing Physics, intensive preparation, and extracurricular academic tutoring) to maximize college admission possibilities at the cost of ignoring their personal interests.Originality/Value:This is a timely study that provides insights into school changes and impacts on students' learning in a changing educational context. Implications for future research and practices are discussed.

Abstract:At present, part of the responsibility of educational evaluation has shifted from teachers to students who have become the important participants in higher educational quality evaluation. Higher education evaluation in five Nordic Countries as Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden has attached importance to students' participation in the evaluation process which has led to good effect. By adopting various methods, the evaluation agencies and evaluated higher educational institutions of Nordic Countries have the students participate in the formulation of evaluation plan, the establishment of external evaluation groups, self-evaluation of universities and institutes and spot investigation and evaluation report release. By national legislation, the involvement right of the students from the level of system is guaranteed and gives play to the subjectivity of students' participation and guarantee the participation degree of the students' participation with various methods. Students' participation in the quality evaluation of higher education should have a degree of participation. Only when the degree is well handled can the advantages be brought into play and the disadvantages overcome.

Abstract:With the rapid development of information technology in the 21st century, we have entered the era of big data. Based on information technology and big data, there are new teaching concepts, teaching models and teaching methods. In the last two years of teaching, we have tried to design and practice a data-driven college teaching evaluation model. Build an intelligent auxiliary teaching platform to provide teachers, students and teaching management personnel with intelligent assistance; take the “diversification-value process-testing ability” as the guiding ideology to carry out curriculum assessment reform, stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning, and promote students’ all-round development; On the basis of constructing the classroom teaching index system and collecting a large amount of course data, the paper constructs a data-driven classroom teaching evaluation model: establishing a curriculum real-time evaluation teaching goal, constructing a classroom evaluation index system, and designing data-driven classroom teaching.

Abstract:After the expansion of higher education in China, quality has become a core issue.Monitoring evaluation is one of the internationally-accepted forms of quality assurance. The current monitoring evaluation are biased toward resource or input-based indicators, monitoring of the process and results of talent development needs to be further improved. Based on student development theory and its application in higher education evaluation, this study establishes a set of evaluation index system to monitor the process and effectiveness of higher education talent cultivation through the path of value-added evaluation.

Abstract:This study examines the context and social construction where the evaluation of Chinese universities has been established.It argues that the establishment of university evaluation in China is resulted of the rapid expansion of China's higher education,and embodied of a diversified system inclu-ding evaluation in the aspects of university research,teaching,disciplines and educational programs.It further illustrates that the indicators cited by the university evaluation,however,is decontextualized and fragmented.Strategies of improvement are brought in the end part of the article,for the reference of both the government and peer academicians for a better practice of the"Double First-Class"Con-struction.

High school graduates decide by themselves which university they will apply to enter; high schools provide materials relevant to their applications; and Educational Testing Service is responsible for providing the test results requested. This paper analyses the multi-factors of the undergraduate admission model, the admission criteria in the U.S.A., discusses some problems we are facing, and puts forward some suggestions.

Abstract:With the rapid expansion of higher education scale and the continuously increasing process of marketization of higher education in China,higher education institutions are converting from the previous "knowledge community" to "knowledge operation" in a step-by-step manner.From the market point of view,the relationship between higher education institutions and the society can be interpreted as a commutation relation,and the education service provided by university plays the role of vehicles between higher education institutions and the society.Against this background,the relevance of education service and the social demand has been a central issue of recent higher education researches.This study attempts to adopt the method of empirical research,taking the result of students' assessment and their level of satisfaction of higher education as a breakthrough point.We first attempt to have an extensive and thorough understanding of the general status of satisfaction and that of students from the three different types of higher education institutions.Second,mechanism influencing recent education results of higher education institutions and the problems will be analyzed and discussed.Finally,we consider the implications of our data,our interpretation of their meanings,and advice to improve the quality of Chinese higher education.

Abstract:The comprehensive quality evaluation is an evaluation system that identifies and explores students' strengths. By examining the developmental progress of pilot provinces that have implemented comprehensive quality evaluation, valuable insights and guidance can be derived for other provinces preparing to adopt this evaluation approach. This study conducts an investigation and research on students, teachers, and middle managers from 12 high schools in two pilot areas, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces. Using a combination of empirical and qualitative research methods, it aims to explore the levels of satisfaction and recognition among different research subjects regarding the current implementation situation and analyze the existing issues in the current implementation process. According to the corresponding theory, an in-depth analysis is conducted from four dimensions to uncover the underlying causes of the problem, while proposing recommendations to enhance and advance comprehensive quality evaluation. These recommendations are first to enhance further the standard level of matching and integration in comprehensive quality evaluation; second to augment the utilization level of comprehensive quality evaluation; third to elevate the significance of comprehensive quality evaluation results; and fourth to improve the credit rating system associated with comprehensive quality evaluation.

Abstract:Faculty evaluation of American higher education institutions has being under significant changes since 20th century. Not only the highly controversial teaching evaluation and the insignificant service evaluation were developed, noteworthily the teaching evaluation evolving from informal and simple descriptions to a complex and institutionalized system, but also the policies, goals and functions in the field have being under dramatic transformation. This on one hand is attributed to the interaction of American higher institution and the society, especially the financial support and accountability need from the society; on the other hand is highly influenced by the development of American higher education, academic profession transformation and the undulations of the power of student and faculty.
Assessing the Quality of Undergraduate Education for International Students in China: A Perspective of Student Learning Experiences

Abstract:Purpose The number of international students in China has been increasing over the recent decades. The rapid expansion of the international student population aroused concerns over the capacity of Chinese universities to fulfill international students’ expectations toward academic development. Perceiving student learning experiences as an important indicator of higher education quality, this article focuses on undergraduate international students in China and discusses their learning experiences from three perspectives, i.e., perceived learning environment, academic engagement, and student development. Design/Approach/Methods Data were generated by a survey involving 1,428 international students studying for an undergraduate degree at 34 universities in China. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and the structural equation model was applied. Findings The research showed the respondents’ academic development in a range of skills and abilities, while their learning experiences at the Chinese higher education institutions (HEIs) were largely unsatisfactory. Specifically, the research revealed the respondents’ moderate-to-low-level evaluation of perceived classroom learning environment, their low level of academic engagement, and the significant negative influences of the perceived classroom learning environment and academic engagement on their academic development. Originality/Value The analysis holds implications for the enhancement of positive learning experiences of international undergraduate students in China and the improvement of the quality of Chinese international student education. Student learning experiences are an important indicator of the quality of college teaching. Drawing on the data generated by a survey involving 1,428 international students studying for an undergraduate degree at 34 universities in China, this presentation explores the characteristics of international undergraduate students’ learning experiences in Chinese universities and analyzes the relationship among the three dimensions of their learning experiences.

Abstract:Evaluation methods based on data-driven techniques and artificial intelligence for the sustainable enrollment plan configurations of Chinese universities have become a research hotspot in the field of higher education teaching reform. Enrollment, education, and employment constitute the three key pillars of talent cultivation in universities. However, due to an unclear understanding of their interconnection, universities have yet to establish robust quantitative relationship models, hindering the formation of an evaluation mechanism for sustainable enrollment plan configurations. This study begins by constructing a relevant indicator system and utilizing real enrollment data from a specific university. Through statistical methods such as correlation analysis, it systematically sorts out key variables and identifies seven effective indicators, including average admission score and first-time graduation rate. Subsequently, by using the increase or decrease in enrollment quotas for each major as the experimental target, evaluation models for sustainable enrollment plan configurations aimed at enhancing the advanced education rate are constructed using naïve Bayes networks and tree-augmented Bayesian networks; these are compared with three other classic machine learning methods. The accuracy of these models is evaluated through confusion matrices and receiver operating characteristic curves. Additionally, the Birnbaum importance analysis method is utilized to prioritize remaining variables, ultimately identifying the optimal combination strategy of indicators conducive to the sustainable development of the advanced education rate. The results indicate that the average admission score, transfer rate, and student/teacher ratio are the top 3 prognostic factors affecting the advanced education rate, with the TAN model achieving an accuracy of 96.49%, thus demonstrating good reliability.

Abstract:As an important tool to improve the quality of education and promote the reform of education, the theory and practice of higher education evaluation has always been a hot topic. This study comprehensively analyzes the research progress in the theoretical basis, method and construction of evaluation system of higher education evaluation. The paper first reviews the purpose of higher education evaluation from the traditional summative evaluation to formative evaluation, analyzes the development process of educational evaluation, and discusses its theoretical framework, including cognitive evaluation theory, social cognitive evaluation theory, pragmatic evaluation theory, evaluation model, etc., emphasizing that evaluation should promote students' learning and cultivate self-evaluation ability and focus on the sustainability of students' lifelong learning. Furthermore, the practical methods of educational evaluation, including evaluation types, evaluation methods, such as quantitative evaluation, qualitative evaluation and comprehensive evaluation, and the implementation steps of evaluation are further discussed. Finally, the paper explores the application and rationality of performance evaluation in higher education and expounds the current development trend of educational evaluation, including the integration of diversified evaluation methods and evaluation tools based on modern educational technology.
