The application of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory in heroin addicts after detoxification

Abstract:Objective To investigate the mental status and character of heroin addicts after detoxification. Methods Three hundred and twelve cases of heroin addicts after detoxification were rated by Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Results Both male and female addicts had higher scores in 7 factors of Hs, D, Hy, Pd, Pa, Pt and Ma compared with Chinese norm. Besides, the female addicts had higher scores in factor Sc compared with the norm. Each score in factors of MMPI was not affected by the difference of educational levels. Conclusion Heroin addicts have severe mental problems after detoxification, and these will increase the possibility of recurrence of drugs abuse. Therefore, enhanced psychosocial interventions should be considered in the prevention of the recurrence of drugs abuse.
