Investigation and Research into the Status Quo of China's Postgraduate Education Quality

Abstract:The article makes objective and comprehensive analyses of graduate qualities in China under the background of mass higher education.The study begins with the definition of graduate qualities and builds on expert interviews,symposium and abundant data obtained by sample questionnaires.The benchmarks for quality evaluation are established according to the goals of graduate education in the article,which also confirms comparison and policy analyses as two basic points of view.The status quo of China's postgraduate education quality is evaluated with the following items:enrollment's quality,ethos of study,internal adaptability(i.e.academic level:learning,innovation ability,qualities of dissertations),external adaptability(i.e.degrees of employer's satisfaction with their postgraduate employees in team spirit,the abilities to organize & coordinate,enterprises,responsibilities,comprehensive capabilities,independent-work & practical abilities and general qualities of all postgraduate employees),etc.The result shows that postgraduates' ethos of study,qualities of dissertation and comprehensive capabilities are satisfactory;however,the enrollment's qualities,dissertations' academic level and the general qualities are not significantly improved compared with the state five years ago,and even have a threat of decline;meanwhile,team spirit,social responsibilities,innovation and practical abilities are dissatisfactory.The article points out there are various reasons behind these phenomena,such as institutional reasons,the restriction.
